Prevalence Of Abortion And Contraceptive Practice
PREVALENCE OF ABORTION AND CONTRACEPTIVE PRACTICE AMONG WOMEN
SEEKING REPEAT INDUCED ABORTION IN WESTERN NIGERIA
ABSTRACT
The background Induced abortion contributes significantly to maternal mortality in developing
countries yet women still seek repeat induced abortion in spite of availability of contraceptive
services. The aim of this study is to determine the rate of abortion and contraceptive use among
women seeking repeat induced abortion in Western Nigeria. Method. A prospective cross
sectional study utilizing self administered questionnaires was administered to women seeking
abortion in private hospitals/clinics in four geopolitical areas of Ogun State, Western Nigeria,
from January 1 to December 31 2012. Data were analyzed using SPSS 17.0. Results. The age
range for those seeking repeat induced abortion was 15 to 51 years while the median age was 25
years. Of 2934 women seeking an abortion, 23% reported having had one or more previous
abortions. Of those who had had more than one abortion, the level of awareness of contraceptives
was 91.7% while only 21.5% used a contraceptive at their first intercourse after the procedure;
78.5% of the pregnancies were associated with non contraceptive use while 17.5% were associated
with contraceptive failure. The major reason for non contraceptive use was fear of side effects.
Conclusion. The rate of women seeking repeat abortions is high in Nigeria. The rate of
contraceptive use is low while contraceptive

Essay on Kenneth Branagh s Adaptation of Frankenstein for...
Kenneth Branagh s Adaptation of Frankenstein for the Cinema
The story of Frankenstein has been set in the Georgian period. The story line can be cut briefly to
a crazed scientist (Victor Frankenstein) thinking he can play God . He tries to bring a creation to
life and once succeeding he realises the terrible mistake he has made and sets about trying to correct
it by murdering it. The Monster sets out for revenge killing family members one by one, ending
with them both dying in ice covered mountains. Kenneth Branagh has re told this story from Mary
Shelley s novel, Frankenstein. Branagh has been very careful when creating this movie, and
because of it, the movie has said to be a movie that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a form of expressionism, of how Branagh has created this movie from the adaptation of a
novel and managed to make it very powerful emotionally to the viewer.
The class structure of the film plays a big part in the story line, from Victor being at the top of
the upper class scale then coming down to the middle class such as the Nanny working for
Victor s family and then ending right down towards the lower class, the poverty of the working
people in the town. Throughout the story Victor and the Monster are both shown to be
outsiders. Victor began to get ideas in his head about being able to create a new life, starting to
hide himself in his lab for weeks on end studying and experimenting. He begins to lose touch
with the outside world and becomes extremely isolated. I think the Monster becomes alienated
from the moment it is created. It breaks out of the lab, which is ironic as Victor tries to lock
himself in the lab, and roams the disease ridden streets. He is exposed in the town and the
townspeople immediately try to rid him from the town by chasing him and using physical violence
towards the Monster. The Monster fleas the town, actually wanting to exclude himself from the
outside world because of the way he looks and

Read Carefully the Following Piece of Text. What Does It...
Assignment 5
Part1
Option B
Read carefully the following piece of text. What does it tell us about cross cultural encounters?
In 1892 the new vice consul for the Benin river section Captain Henry Gallwey visited Benin and
signed a treaty which made Benin a British protectorate, but as far as the British were concerned the
treaty proved disappointing and by 1896 many British traders and officials were calling for military
intervention, although the foreign office seemed reluctant to do this.
On January 2nd 1897 the acting consul general of the protectorate James Phillips set off without
permission for Benin accompanied by a large armed party. When news of the oncoming invaders
reached Benin it caused alarm and messengers were sent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Benin art works were brought back and sold to a variety of private collectors and museums
alike, including The Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford and the British Museum. Competition to acquire
these unusual objects was fierce.
The view from Victorians concerning the artwork was that they were obtained from brutal and
unruly savages from Benin (The Times, 25th September 1897, p12) but it was also thought that the
quality and workmanship of the pieces was exceptional.
Originally when the pieces were put on display at museums such as The Pitt Rivers they were just
piled up in what seemed a chaotic manner in glass cabinets, not displayed in any order or reference
to religious or cultural beliefs, they were just grouped in terms of use with no thought to artistic
value.
In the British Museum the Benin plaques were originally displayed in an area known as the
Assyrian Basement that was not even known that well to the general public and have since shown
to have no relevance to the rest of the contents of that room. The storage of the pieces in that way
suggests that they were uncertain as to how to categorise these works of art.
In museums today various pieces are displayed in such a way as to show people that these pieces
are what they are and to explain their original uses etc. In Paris for example, a new museum was
built in 2006 called Quai Branly and it displayed a collection of Benin pieces including

The Germ Theory
In the light of the germ theory...[d]jseases are to be considered as a struggle between the organism
and the parasites invading it. The aforementioned quote, by Henry Gandle, a professor of
physiology at Chicago Medical College, characterizes the germ theory through the collective human
struggle against disease inducing microorganisms. In a period of discovery, where the nature of
various germs and diseases were brought to light, the common conception encompassed a war
between humans and diseases; this analogy to a war implicates a united effort on the part of the
human race in battling these dangerous microorganisms. Tomes writes in The Gospel of Germs not
only of the different scientific discoveries associated with the emergent germ... Show more content

In the Southwood Smith excerpt, he depicts the ideal method of quarantine as influenced by neither
ancient prejudices, nor an excess of anxiety to avert possible danger, should induce the continuance
of restrictions inessential to their object. In other words, Southwood Smith acknowledges not only
the active societal biases, but also that these partialities can enter the medical realm through
prejudicial treatment of disease. A society with such prominent discrimination, including in those
with medical clout, has the capacity to formulate racial and class bias in germ theory that is but
an extension of already existing anxieties concerning other less well off members of society.
Rather than bringing people together in response to the fear of disease, quarantine had the capacity
to create a more segregated society praying on the middle and upper class fears of disease
spreading through the other, discriminated members of society. African Americans are among the
societal groups that lacked the societal cohesiveness Tomes attributes to the gospel of germs insofar
as they remained segregates and relatively uneducated on the new germ theories in comparison to
other members of society. In an

The Next Three Years Performance
In the research, the next three years performance is estimated by different stage. Generally
speaking, the first stage will be only the next year 2016, which is basic on the average historical
performance. The second stage will be 2017 and 2018, the growth is assumed to keep about 9.6 %
per year. In addition, all the figures in this part are calculated by Danish Kroner.
Basic on the last five years income statement, sales in Novo Nordisk will increase from DKK
107927 million in 2015 to DKK 134004 million in 2018. However, the operating profit might
decrease from 2015 and the operating margin will also decrease relatively. On the other hand, the
net income and net margin will rise to DKK 46900 million during the future three years. This is
because the operating cost in Novo Nordisk will has an unusual increase in the future, which should
be concerned.
As the graph shows, the finance situation presented a fluctuated change during the past five years.
It may has a stable growth from DKK 9933 million in 2016 to DKK 14928 million in 2018. Debt in
this graph is assumed only long term debt that is zero, which is the reason why the leverage is
zero during the past five years.
According to the disclosure of Novo Nordisk balance sheet, the book value per share has an
improving trend from 2011 to 2018, expect 2016. The cash flow per share will also increase in the
future three years. Although it is difficult to accurate analyze the reason why the book value will

Advantages Of Extensible Markup Language
Extensible Markup Language (XML)
1.1 Introduction
What is the Extensible Markup Language (XML)? Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a subset
of the Standard Generalized Markup Language, which is a marker for an electronic document to
have a structured markup language.
In the computer, the mark symbol refers to information the computer can understand, by this token,
you can handle that contains a variety of information such as articles between computers. It can be
used to tag data, defining data types, is a technology that allows users to define their own markup

PDA in Health and Social Care Supervision Social health Care Supervision Definition Social
Care Supervision refers to the strategies and body of service done within a social care plant in
order to improve on the level of performance of the social care workers. Supervision is a critical
idea in any social or structured society in which services of high quality and demand are being
offered. Many social health care centers in the world are in need of equitable service delivery
programs that will oversee a fruitful service reception by the clients. As such, Social Care
Supervision refers to this body of knowledge and strategies used to support and instill hard work,
quality delivery of products and services, together with a continuum of good delivery of goods
and services to the clients (Gray Brown 2010, p. 45 85). The Professional Health and Social
Care Supervision Award were offered to social workers who registered to the Scottish Social
Services Council. The core aim of this service mechanism was to meet the various requirements
among social service workers. These services were derived and directed to all workers in service
practices. It also included those who require additional qualifications in order to meet the pending
responsibilities and challenges within a social work setup. The workers, whose responsibilities
and duties are to meet the needs and wants of other workers, in that, who are in supervision roles,

The Heart And Vascular Institute
Clinical Specialty Area
The clinical area chosen was the Heart and Vascular Institute through one of the hospital systems I
am employed with. I had been involved with a project that studied the readmissions experienced
within the hospital system and established heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary
disorders (COPD) were our highest readmission problems. Our organization had found that
millions of dollars had been left on the table since the Centers for Medicare Medicaid (CMS)
handed down their final ruling in 2012 regarding reduced payments for preventable readmissions
(CMS.gov, 2016).
One of the outcomes of the project was the development of the rapid diuresis unit (RDU) through
our Cardiac Decision Units (CDU) at several campuses. I often wondered how the RDU of the
CDU was set up and how they function within the system. This is my opportunity to see the
operation firsthand, the clientele it serves, the staff, and potential education needs that the
department faces.

Do Fans Put Too Much Pressure In Sports
Do Fans Put Too Much Pressure on Their Favorite Professional Teams?
Have you ever thought about professional athletes having so much pressure on themselves? In
every sport fans put so much pressure on their teams to win. But what you don t see is how the
players feel about it. Fans put too much pressure on their sports teams, but this couldn t be a
problem if we make a solution. Fans can put so much stress on players of their favorite professional
teams. You might not even realize the impact you are making. During the regular season of any
sport is a long journey. But then when your team makes it into the playoffs or championship the
pressure gets even higher on those players. Is there ever really a time where fans should be
sending death threats to any athlete? Brandon Jacobs, a running back for the New York Giants, was
sidelined the Giants opening game this season with a hamstring injury. Because of this, he received
a death threat. (Bocchino) This is one of the best examples of how much pressure is on
professional athletes. Fans sending threats to make sure these players play good. After all these
athletes are humans just like everyone and should not be put in that situation. How should the
professional team respond to fans that put this pressure on their athletes? The best solution is to
give them a warning or to not let them come to their games anymore. It s the best way to be
professional about it and so the players don t get hurt from the situation. For

Interracial Marriage In The 19th Century
Interracial Marriage In today s society interracial marriage is not something that many people
oppose, but perhaps they encourage it. Interracial marriage is when two people from different
racial or ethnic groups join in marriage. In the 19th century people did not marry outside of their
own race. It was prohibited. I will be comparing and contrasting interracial marriagefrom the 19th
century to the 21st century,to explain that love sees no color, the effect on their children, and the
beauty of joined ethnic groups.

Black rock, Nick Enright Essay
Today I ll be talking about the play Blackrock that I ve been studying in class this term, the purpose
of this speech is to make us think how Australian drama challenges us to think about Australian
culture and identity, and the impacts it can have on us as person and as a community.
Guys stick up for their mates no matter what
Blackrock is a play written by Nick Enright that provides insight into Australian culture. Through the
violent rape of a teenage girl, the audience is challenged to consider the values and attitudes still
prevalent in Australia today. Enright uses authentic and raw Australian characters to reveal inherent
patriarchal attitudes towards women and the problems with a society that promotes sexual double ...

The boy s in Blackrock often partake in risk taking behaviour in order to gain respect within their
group and this can lead to a detrimental gang mentality. In the third scene Jared reveals to his
friend Rachel why he is so loyal to his good friend Ricko. He s been my mate since forever... he
says, with the use of emotive dialogue and colloquial language. The authenticity conveyed
through the emotive and colloquial language shows the seemingly positive impact that Ricko
has had on Jared. After his Dad split he didn t have a male role model and was what he called a
total fuck up or someone to guide him in the hyper masculine world. He found security in Ricko
and in return Jared defends Ricko at all costs, this shows the encouraging aspects of mateship,
where boys can find sense of belonging in their friendships. However, Jared s idealisation of Ricko
blinds him to the realities of his aggressive personality.
The impact of mateship and how easy it is for somebody to be pressured into doing something
just to fit in is highlighted in scene six. Ricko forces a boy named Toby who has only recently
been fixated into the group into performing the ring of fire as the other Blackrock boys cheer him
on. You re the barbeque, mate. It is shown as a type of initiation for the Blackrock boys; Toby

Spanish Conquistadors
The Spanish conquistadors who vanquished Cuba in the 16th century are known for the suffering
they caused among conquered peoples. Yet, the same brute force that exploited native populations
is also responsible for Cuba s development into a flourishing colony. On October 28, 1492, Italian
explorer Christopher Columbus discovered Cubaon his first voyage to the New World. Impressed
with the beauty, natural resources, and prime location of the island, Columbus returned to Cuba on
his second voyage in 1494. Nineteen years later, Spanish conquistador Diego Velasquez conquered
the island under the command of Columbus son Diego Columbus. After Spainestablished political

Though the establishment of encomiendas abused natives and supported African slave trade, the
agricultural industry founded in Cuba by the Spanish became the colony s main source of income.
When the Spanish arrived in Cuba in the late fifteenth century, they discovered tobacco native to
the region and brought it back to Europe, where it was admired for its unique taste (Garcia).
Tobacco encomiendas were built across the island and the crop was shipped to Europe in
exchange for manufactured goods. Other cash crops including sugarcane, coffee, and animal hides
were also exported via Spanish ships and taken to European consumers (Woodward). By 1600,
Cuban tobacco had become renowned worldwide for its superior quality and cost nearly three times
the price of its competitors (NAter). Though the success of the encomienda system is controversial
due to its lack of morality, Cuba s economic development would not have been made possible
without them. The agricultural industries and business partners formed by Spanish colonists
enabled Cuba to rise as a powerful trade hub between Europe and the Americas. Prior to Spanish
conquest, Cuba had no connections to the outside world and natives survived as hunter gatherers (
The Colonial Years ). When they colonized the island, the Spanish built economic institutions that

Christian Apologetics Summary
In Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case for Biblical Faith Appendix 1 Dr. Groothuis
presents a defense of the fairness of hell. He explains that, in our pluralistic and relativistic society,
hell seems to be a repugnant and offensive doctrine, even when presented biblically and faithfully.
Jesus taught the doctrine in multiple occasions, and given the evidence for the resurrection, his
warnings should be taken seriously if the resurrection is true, then Jesus was Divine and what he
says is authoritative. In spite of this, many Christians avoid the subject of hell altogether and
secularists ironically condemn it; however Dr. Groothuis raises a solid case for the reality of it
with numerous quotes from Jesus. This is a wise strategy since even... Show more content on

Groothuis about hell. He correctly states that that our eternal destiny depends on our response to
God. However, I believe a point that should have been strengthened is this: twice in the chapter,
Dr. Groothuis affirms that the unredeemed go to hell because they failed to respond rightly
(7088) and that eternal punishment awaits those who reject Christ. While this is technically
correct and Biblical, the deepest point and reason for the existence of hell is the incorrigible
depravity of humanity. People don t end up in hell because they confused Christ s purpose and
rejected him, or because of meager sins against a Holy God. Humanity is morally bankrupt and
devoid of goodness as thousands of years of death, genocide and rape attest to that. It is
extremely difficult to convince helpless sinners that they need forgiveness if sin is just a liturgical
term used in Sunday school. Dr. Groothuis has already explained that hell is inseparable from sin,
God s holiness, and the cross , but the idea that deeply depraved human beings are already damned
and deserving of separation from God lest they repent trough faith in Christ is not very clear from

Using Literary Devices In The Sixth Sense
After recently watching The Sixth Sense I realized that there is a great use of devices in the
film. The Sixth Sense is about a child psychologist Dr. Malcolm, who tries to help a child defeat
his dark secret. I think this movie is a prime example of using literary devices such as,
foreshadowing and symbolism within the script. I really enjoyed this filmfor these reasons and
would recommend it everyone. There are many instances in which these devices are used in the
film, some are much more noticeable than the others. This movie has a really high replay value
because, you always notice something new in regards to symbolism. Also the other view points that
you can see the story after knowing what happens in the dramatic ending. The many uses... Show

The biggest aspect of foreshadowing used in this movie is the fact that Malcolm only interacts
with Cole during the entire movie after his death. This is something that is hard to notice on the
first time you watch this film. This aspect gives the film high replay value. When Malcolm is
sitting in the living room with Cole s mother the viewer assumes that they are both talking when
Cole arrives home from school, when in reality she doesn t even notice Malcolm. When
Malcolm attends Cole s plays at his school no one asks him why he s there or anything at all. My
favorite example of this is, there are other parents recording the play and are sitting directly
behind Malcolm. If they were able to see him, Malcolm would be in the way of the shot. The
other parents see right through him because he is dead, I think that this is brilliant foreshadowing
for the twist at the end of the film. The temperature change is one of the more obvious uses of
foreshadowing in the movie. The temperature dropped in the film when a ghost was upset. A the
start of one of the scenes, there is a close up on the thermostat changing to cold by itself. This is
foreshadowing on the upset ghosts that are about to visit

Abstract
Through the years, many countries have adopted the same guidelines when it comes to emergency
management. The system is ever changing with the types of hazards countries have to deal with,
and so is the knowledge to mitigate them. As counties adopt this universal system, it provides them
with an easier way to give and receive outside aid before, throughout and after an event or disaster.
Although very similar there seems to always be some differences around the world. Emergency
management and disaster response in France is very similar to the United States. Because of these

Psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions usually emerge in men in their late teens

The risk for inheriting schizophrenia is 10 percent in those who have an immediate family member

Antipsychotic medication shortens the duration of psychosis in Schizophrenia, and prevents
recurrences (but psychotic relapses can still occur under stress). Usually it takes years before
individuals can accept that they have Schizophrenia and need medication. Life long treatment with
antipsychotic medication is essential for recovery from Schizophrenia. Course and age of onset
Study shows that people with schizophrenia recover fully, and lots of others people improve to the

Fortunately, this accounts for the common cases. However, about 15 percent of individuals with

confesses her previous love for Benedick (278 282), but in her constant support of Hero s romantic
attraction to Claudio at the start of the play most notably in this scene when she encourages Hero
to kiss her knew fiancГ©. Despite her earlier depiction, she is clearly hiding a more tender, even
conventional side than is often assumed.
Benedick is himself much like Beatrice. As she professes to scorn men and marriage, he does
likewise with women. As she seems to mock and reject the common custom, so he does as well.
For her every condemnation of men as undeserving of women, he has a parallel condemnation for
women. He seems to be the masculine mirror of her, hiding a similarly dualistic character whose
romantic side and attention to convention will become apparent once he is told that Beatrice loves
him. Then he will spend his time musing on her perfection wise as she is but for loving [him] and
undeniably fair and virtuous and writing her poetry he cannot manage to rhyme. This

Questions On Consumer s Behavior
There are four basic assumptions that are made by economists taking into consideration a consumer
s behavior. When economists pursue their research they take into account the consumer s behavior
having clear preferences, a budget constraint, the determination of price, and rational behavior.
Having these assumptions allows economists to know what the consumer is thinking while
considering a good or service. Since every persons wants/needs are different, we can assume that
different households have different preferences towards goods and services. Having clear
preferences is one assumption made by economists that consumers show in their behavior. This
involves knowing as a consumer, the certain goods and services that are available in the market.
However, the buyer must also have some knowledge of the amount of marginal utility they will
receive from products they may be potentially purchasing. When a consumer has clear preferences
they typically react in different ways: complete, monotonic, and transitivity. Complete meaning,
they rank their goods on their preferences. Monotonic is describing the consumer as having the
attitude more is better . Transitivity prefers goods in different ways meaning: if you prefer Bud
Light to Coors Light, but Coors Light to Budweiser than you prefer Bud Light to Budweiser. The
second assumption determined by economists focuses on the budget constraint. The consumer has a
various amount of income, which then gives them a

Global business is especially complex due to the the globalization of markets. There are significant
cultural differences between countries and regions, sometimes there are even multiple cultures in a
single country. However, businesses must learn new innovative ways to transcend distance and
culture because if they do not their corporations will never grow. Expanding to foreign countries
can provide a business with millions of new customers. In order to increase business, businesses
must globalize. Luckily enough, this is becoming easier since trade barriers are starting to dissolve
and communication to most parts of the world today are basically instantaneous. There are many
ways a company can decide to expand internationally. One of... Show more content on

Postmodern American Artist s Cindy Sherman And Kara...
Postmodern American artist s Cindy Sherman and Kara Walker critique and question grand
narratives of gender, race and class through their work and art practice. Cindy Sherman, born 1954,
is well renowned for her conceptual portraits of female characters and personas that question the
representation of women, genderidentity and the true (or untrue) nature of photography
(Hattenstone 2011). Kara Walker, born 1969, is known for her black silhouettes that dance
across gallery walls and most recently her sugar sphinx, A Subtlety, address America s racist
slavery past (Berry 2003). These practitioners differ in their practical application of different
mediums, Sherman constructs characters and scenes of stereotypical female personas in her
photographs where she operates as the actress, director, wardrobe assistant, set designer and
cameraman (Machester 2001). Simone Hatenstone, writer for The Guardian, states She s a
Hitchcock heroine, a busty Monroe, an abuse victim, a terrified centrefold, a corpse, a
Caravaggio, a Botticelli, a mutilated hermaphrodite sex doll, a man in a balaclava, a surgically
enhanced Hamptons type, a cowgirl, a desperate clown, and we ve barely started. (Hattenstone

Importance Of Cultural Norms And Practices In Business
establishes their rituals and justifies what are their norms and values. Businesses wanting to expand
to different nations must take into account the countries culture and values in order to produce and
manufacture products and services according to the norms of their society, and ensure their culture
is respected and preserved in the way the products are marketed and manufactured. The products
must be available and accessible without concerns of dissing religion and aspects of their culture
and way of life.
Businesses can take advantage in a developing country through specialisation, which is producing
products custom made and specifically catered to a certain culture which is similar in various
countries. Businesses will have to overcome language barriers, learn about others religion, receive
advice from local experts of the country and become familiar to the people s behaviour, customs
and aesthetics to properly and appropriately distribute its products
Specialisation can be see through Dr Matthew McDougall investing into the Chinese Market, and
became the founder of DaigouSales. Dr McDougall had found that Chinese students and immigrants
were purchasing Australian products through family and friends of their hometown. They began
exporting products of interest and learnt new ways to do business in China. They became aware of
the Chinese culture and the way their customers were updated on the latest fashion trends and

English Major Essay
In recent years, the English major has faced an increasing amount of scrutiny. While the number of
English majors throughout the United States is rapidly declining, majors with roots in science,
technology, engineering, and math are praised as worthwhile and immediately beneficial.
Beginning shortly after the Great Recession of 2008 2009, humanities based majors have been
deemed expendable and trivial. President Barack Obamas 2011 State of the Union Address only
served to propel this mindset as he renewed his commitment for his Educate to Innovate platform
that specifically targets [science, technology, engineering, and math degrees] as a means of helping
to rebuild America s economic edge (Luangphinith 64). In effect, society now surmises English as
archaic and obsolete in the quick paced world (65). Although the English majoris plagued with a

The Aspects Of Happiness And Happiness
Happiness is not always easy to achieve. Life throws curve balls and it s hard to swing at all of
them. I try to stay happy all the time or I fake it. I don t want ruin other people s happiness by
being upset. I am blessed to say I have a happy life but there is plenty of ways I could increase my
own happiness. Sleeping more than I do right now would increase my happiness. Doing more for
others and spreading kindness is another way I could have a happier life. Lastly, planning
events or activities beforehand would not only make me happier but also less stressed. I would
love to be happier, but I need to be committed to make changes in my life. Sleep is a great thing
and I wish I could do it more often. I ve never been a good sleeper. My parents think it s because
of my phone, but I put it up when I want to sleep and I end up staring at the ceiling for an hour or
two. According to Lemola et al. (as cited in Boehm and Kubzansky, 2012), there was a study

night and took less time to fall asleep (2010). For me to sleep more and be happier, I need to have a
positive outlook on life. I always try to see the brighter side of situations but sometimes, I find it
immensely hard to be positive when other people are pessimistic. I need to push myself and be the

The Assassinations Of Lincoln And The Alienation Of...
The assassination of Abraham Lincoln further alienated the North and the South after the Civil
War because his death did not allow his plan for reconstruction to go through and unify them. On
the evening on April 14, 1856, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes
Booth, who had already attempted to kidnap Lincoln twice already, while attending the play of
Our American Cousin at Ford s Theater. Sitting with him were Mayor Henry Rathbone and his
fiancГ©e, Clare Harris. While watching the play, Booth sneaked into the box the president, a
knife in his left hand and a pistol in his right. Booth shot the president in the back of the head,
slashed Rathbone across the arm, and jumped off the balcony. Booth caught his leg on a flag on
the way down and broke his leg. Lincoln was carried to a boarding house next door and died the
next day. President Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated in United Stateshistory. John
booth escaped, sought medical attention for his wounded leg, and fled into the Virginia country
side. Union troops found the barn he was hiding in, surrounded it, set it on fire, and shot Booth as
he attempted to escape ( The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln, 34f). The president s body was
taken by train to Springfield, Illinois, where he was then buried. Accomplices of Booth s were

Why School Start Times For Students Essay
Many young students, from the U.S. and abroad, have to wake up at an earlier time in order to
get to school. What many of them do not realize however is the effects it can have on their body
s development. Sleep is seen as unnecessary or even pointless to many young children, but as
they get older, their appreciation for the act becomes widely apparent. Lots of educational
systems all over the country still start school at a time earlier than 8 o clock in the morning. The
developing students who have to wake up at such an early time don t realize that they shouldn t
have to wake up so early in the morning, and that is because their bodies simply don t function
properly at a certain time and with a lack of sleep. I believe that school start times for students
that are in primary and secondary school should start later because doing so will have a positive
effect on their overall physical health as well as their psychosocial development. School start
times play a very big role in a student s overall development, especially when they aren t getting
enough sleep because of it. An important factor to consider for a student s development is the act
of sleeping; that a lack of it can cause serious problems to the students growing body. According to
research done with Brown University s Julie Boergers, the author of the letter Benefits of later
school start times , the amount of sleep that adolescents need ranges from 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep.
Only 17 percent of these students

The Pros And Cons Of The War On Terrorism
Fighting fire with fire, or in this case, fighting terrorism with terrorism. This, simply put, is what
many believe to be the solution to terrorism a War on Terror. NATO is well known for being one
of the largest and strongest organizations or military alliances in which participating states agree to
mutual defense in any event of an external attack. Since the attack of 9/11, NATO, with the lead of
the U.S., has been determined to eradicate each and every single terrorist group or any form of
terrorism. Over the years, these motivations have sparked countless controversial issues as ethics of
this war became increasingly questionable. Although many may support this concept of a War on
Terror , it is simply, without question, economically damaging, misleading, and a hopeless attempt
to solve the issue of terrorism.
In 2011, expenses for the War on Terror were reported by the Pentagon to be about $1 trillion.
However, when experts carefully analyzed the data and expenses, they had discovered hidden
costs that were left unmentioned by the Pentagon, creating a new total of approximately $4.4
trillion. To put this into perspective, $4.4 trillion is over a fifth of the total U.S. tax revenue from
2001 2011 (about $21 trillion). If just $1 billion in education spending adds $1.3 billion to the
economy and creates 17,687 jobs, imagine the benefits from the thousands of billions of dollars
that are used to support the War on Terror. As a result, many jobs and economic

The Collegiate Experience Of Student Athletes
The collegiate experience of student athletes varies across the sports played, divisions, and
grade level. Division one athletes are the most likely to be engaged in the college experience
than other athletes (NCAA, 2015). One big predictor in the level that student engage in the
college experience is whether they view themselves as an athlete or a student (NCAA, 2015).
That decision holds implications from there on. Those who identify more as an athlete and less
as a student tend to have lower gpa s, and devote less time to their academic work than other
students. Those that identify as students have an average gpa of 3.2, spend 30 hours on
athletics, 40 on academics, and miss an average of 1.3 classes (NCAA, 2015). Those that
identify more as athletes have an average gpa of 2.9, spend 35 hours a week on athletics, spend
36 on academics, and miss an average of 1.7 classes (NCAA, 2015). The amount of time spent
toward various activities varies across different sports and the level of commitment they require.
Despite this student athletes in all sports generally commit large amounts of time to both athletics
and academic endeavors (NCAA, 2015). The majority of student athletes report that they are
actively involved in their campus community outside of athletics and believe that their athletics
participation has benefited them socially (NCAA, 2015). A research study done by the NCAA
examined social participation across several platforms. They are as follows; performance

Dumb Transgende Stereotypes In Media
Stereotypes are prominent in all aspects of the media. These stereotypes almost always have a
negative connotation and although there is sometimes truth behind a stereotype, they are almost
always based on constructions. The stereotypes in the media are visual therefore they allow the
viewer to engage with it and take in its meaning. In countless films and television shows, blondes
are represented as being unintelligent. This dumb blonde stereotypeis the idea that blonde haired
people are less intelligent than those of darker hair. Although there is no scientific proof that
blondes are less smart than those of other hair colors it still seems to be one of the most popular
stereotypesportrayed in the media.
The dumb blonde stereotype also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sturken and Cartwright s essay Modernity: Spectatorship, Power and Knowledge they discuss
the gaze and that it is to look or stare, often with eagerness or desire (76). Sturken and Cartwright
also use Laura Mulvey s idea of the male gaze as an example. Mulvey proposed that the
conventions of popular narrative cinema are structured by a patriarchal unconscious, positioning
woman represented in films as objects as a male gaze (76). The male gaze is closely related to
the stereotype of the dumb blonde. The character of the dumb blonde is always represented as
highly sexual and attractive and is, therefore, the misogynistic male viewer. The blonde woman
has put in films as the weak, helpless, stupid character. This is a result of the male gaze because
women are seen as inferior to men in all aspects and are there solely for the males entertainment.
Since this stereotype is so prominent in the media it has circulated into everyday society. In Gilman
s essay What are Stereotypes and Why Use Texts to Study Them? he states that everyone creates
stereotypes... the creation of stereotypes is a concomitant of the process by which all human beings
become individuals (17).

An Unspoken Cycle That Determines The Success
When talking about inequality, it should be mentioned that there is an unspoken cycle that
determines the success of the average individual. The cycle goes as follows: education in most
cases directly affects the type of job you have. The type of job you have affects your wealth,
which in turn affects your ability to buy a house (mortgage or not) in a quality area. The quality of
the area, then affects the type of educationyou get. This is a cycle that while was once racist, now
unintentionally constrains people to the same socioeconomic class as the one they were born
into. It just so happens that due to the previous intentions, many African Americans are trapped in
a low socioeconomic class and are unable to advance. In fact, America today according to a few
large studies, is less mobile (moving up in socioeconomic class) than other comparable nations.
One study for example found that around 42% of American men who were brought up in the
bottom fifth of American incomes, stayed there throughout their lives. This same study found that
only around 8% of American men gained access to the top fifth from the bottom, a number lower
than others like the Danes or the British ( Harder for Americans to Rise From Lower Rungs ).
Unfortunately, minorities in America are at the largest disadvantage economically due to this
cycle. From the very beginning of this cycle, specifically African Americans were legally forced to
be separated from the rest of America because of the Jim

John Wooden s Pyramid Of Success
John Wooden once said Success is never final, Failure is never fatal. This is related to the
question of what my views of success are. To give you better insight on this question I will tell you
how i would define success using John Wooden s Pyramid of Success , identify the three most
important traits from the pyramid of success, to me, explain how they create success, and why i
thought they were the most important. Next I will use examples from the movie Hoosiers, tell
you what success looks like for the people involved, the emotions they had after their success, and
how the success impacted their lives. Lastly I will define success in my own eyes and how I have
been successful in my life.
I would define success as achieving a goal that you set out for. The three most important things on
John Wooden s Pyramid of Success are Confidence, Condition and Fight. These create success in
many ways. If you have confidence to win you will always win or come very close. If your team
is in condition you will be able to outwork the other team and be success. And if you willing to
fight to win then you will be successful in every accept of life. I thought these were important

The starvation started gradually. There was still some food left. But we never ate enough to

worse yet. (Wiesel 23). After being starved Elie becomes sick. He is dehydrated and was very

attitude, tone, and message have similar components but is also unique.
Thomas Paine gives off a strong attitude towards his enemy, setting the tone and sending a
message. In common sense, Paine expresses his disgust and anger towards the government of
Great Britain. As a long and violent abuse of power, is generally the Means of calling the right of
it in question... (Paine 2). Outraged by his own government, Paine s tone implies that the question
of war must be introduced. He does this in a way that sends a message for everyone to understand
and be aware. Thomas Paine has his very strong opinion about war, but Walt Whitmanexplains a
different point of view during the Civil War.
Walt Whitman was an influential icon during the Civil War, his poems express his attitude, tone
and message towards the war. In Vigil Strange I kept on the Field One Night , Whitman s tone
shows his sadness for the soldiers of war. Vigil final for you brave boy,... Show more content on

Having a Harvard degree he believes that he is too good to fight. He expresses his opinion with
his attitude, tone and message. In the book On the Rainy River O Brien expresses his thoughts
about going to war. At some point in mid July I began thinking seriously about Canada. The
border lay a few hundred miles north, and eight hour drive. Both my conscience and my instincts
were telling me to make a break for it, just take off and run like hell and never stop (O Brien
173). Tim s tone of anger shows he is against going to war, saying that he was close to making a
break for Canada. Tim O Brien s writing expressed the thoughts people being drafted to war.

Essay on The Success of the McDonald’s Franchise
Not having to answer to a corporate boss is the dream of many and the flexibility that owning a
business franchise creates provides this option. Success is not reached by simply creating a
business, however. The level of success is measured by the size and efficiency of the business.
Business growth is the driving force of the economy. The additional jobs and revenues created
when a business expands allow the economy to grow at exponential rates. One of the fastest and
most popular ways to increase the size of a business is to turn it into a franchise, which can then be
purchased by individuals. Franchisingprovides opportunities that are beneficial to both the parent
company and the purchaser. The company that owns the business can expand... Show more content

McDonald s has extremely strict rules when it comes to awarding franchises. First, it is very
costly to open a new location or purchase an existing location, with the median startup cost being
$300,000 (Kalnins Lafontaine, 2004, p. 750). As well, the company does an extensive
background check on a variety of issues including credit history, business management
experience, and the acceptance of the contractual agreement that the company provides. Because
of these strict rules and the large amount of capital needed to purchase a location, rates for
franchise applicants are 1% for McDonald s (Norton, 1988, p. 204). This is an extremely low
acceptance rate and is even lower than McDonald s chief competitor, Burger King, who accepts
1.5% percent of applicants (Norton, 1988, p. 199). These low numbers are understandable in the
context of the business and risk that is involved. Though the franchise purchaser must pay a large
amount of money to gain the rights to the restaurant, they truly have nothing to lose besides
money because they are simply running another company s business model as well as using their
trademarks and logos. McDonald s on the other hand, has a great amount at stake because they
place the well being of an entire restaurant into the caretaking of an individual who simply
purchased the rights for the store. If the store does poorly or if there are issues with customer
service, it reflects

Similarities And Differences Of A Happy Medium
Similarities and Differences: A Happy Medium?
The world is full of differences. No two persons are the same, not even identical twins. Amidst all
the differences, the world is also full of similarities. The differences in the world has resulted in a
more unique and beautiful world. While the similarities have enabled the world to be more flexible
in its understanding. It is important to recognize that both, similarities and differences exist, in the
quest to produce a more effective world. This paper will explore how an emphasis on similarity is
better than an emphasis on difference, in terms of unifying the world, by utilizing a passage from

It has no office space of its own... Meetings are usually hour long sessions, punctuated by bursts of

With these statements, Loffreda provided a picture of the people within the LGBTA in the
college. Jim was now portrayed as the educated man and a leader of an amazing group of people
who were capable enjoying life just as the next person. Proving that they are nearly the same as a
heterosexual person. This concept was also adopted by Siebert when he wrote
When an elephant dies, its family members engage in intense mourning and burial rituals,
conducting weeklong vigils over the body, carefully covering it with earth and brush, revisiting the
bones for years afterward, caressing the bones with their trunks, often taking turns rubbing their
trunks along the teeth of a skull s lower jaw, the way living elephants do in greeting (Siebert, 35).
This quote the ritual that elephant have within their community. Just as humans visit the grave of a

  • 3. Essay on Kenneth Branagh s Adaptation of Frankenstein for... Kenneth Branagh s Adaptation of Frankenstein for the Cinema The story of Frankenstein has been set in the Georgian period. The story line can be cut briefly to a crazed scientist (Victor Frankenstein) thinking he can play God . He tries to bring a creation to life and once succeeding he realises the terrible mistake he has made and sets about trying to correct it by murdering it. The Monster sets out for revenge killing family members one by one, ending with them both dying in ice covered mountains. Kenneth Branagh has re told this story from Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein. Branagh has been very careful when creating this movie, and because of it, the movie has said to be a movie that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a form of expressionism, of how Branagh has created this movie from the adaptation of a novel and managed to make it very powerful emotionally to the viewer. The class structure of the film plays a big part in the story line, from Victor being at the top of the upper class scale then coming down to the middle class such as the Nanny working for Victor s family and then ending right down towards the lower class, the poverty of the working people in the town. Throughout the story Victor and the Monster are both shown to be outsiders. Victor began to get ideas in his head about being able to create a new life, starting to hide himself in his lab for weeks on end studying and experimenting. He begins to lose touch with the outside world and becomes extremely isolated. I think the Monster becomes alienated from the moment it is created. It breaks out of the lab, which is ironic as Victor tries to lock himself in the lab, and roams the disease ridden streets. In 1892 the new vice consul for the Benin river section Captain Henry Gallwey visited Benin and signed a treaty which made Benin a British protectorate, but as far as the British were concerned the treaty proved disappointing and by 1896 many British traders and officials were calling for military intervention, although the foreign office seemed reluctant to do this. The Benin art works were brought back and sold to a variety of private collectors and museums alike, including The Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford and the British Museum. Competition to acquire these unusual objects was fierce. The view from Victorians concerning the artwork was that they were obtained from brutal and unruly savages from Benin (The Times, 25th September 1897, p12) but it was also thought that the quality and workmanship of the pieces was exceptional. Originally when the pieces were put on display at museums such as The Pitt Rivers they were just piled up in what seemed a chaotic manner in glass cabinets, not displayed in any order or reference to religious or cultural beliefs, they were just grouped in terms of use with no thought to artistic value. In the British Museum the Benin plaques were originally displayed in an area known as the Assyrian Basement that was not even known that well to the general public and have since shown to have no relevance to the rest of the contents of that room. The storage of the pieces in that way suggests that they were uncertain as to how to categorise these works of art. In museums today various pieces are displayed in such a way as to show people that these pieces are what they are and to explain their original uses etc. In Paris for example, a new museum was built in 2006 called Quai Branly and it displayed a collection of Benin pieces including ... The aforementioned quote, by Henry Gandle, a professor of physiology at Chicago Medical College, characterizes the germ theory through the collective human struggle against disease inducing microorganisms. In a period of discovery, where the nature of various germs and diseases were brought to light, the common conception encompassed a war between humans and diseases; this analogy to a war implicates a united effort on the part of the human race in battling these dangerous microorganisms. A society with such prominent discrimination, including in those with medical clout, has the capacity to formulate racial and class bias in germ theory that is but an extension of already existing anxieties concerning other less well off members of society. Tobacco encomiendas were built across the island and the crop was shipped to Europe in exchange for manufactured goods. Jesus taught the doctrine in multiple occasions, and given the evidence for the resurrection, his warnings should be taken seriously if the resurrection is true, then Jesus was Divine and what he says is authoritative. However, I believe a point that should have been strengthened is this: twice in the chapter, Dr. Groothuis affirms that the unredeemed go to hell because they failed to respond rightly (7088) and that eternal punishment awaits those who reject Christ. While this is technically correct and Biblical, the deepest point and reason for the existence of hell is the incorrigible depravity of humanity. People don t end up in hell because they confused Christ s purpose and rejected him, or because of meager sins against a Holy God. Humanity is morally bankrupt and devoid of goodness as thousands of years of death, genocide and rape attest to that. It is extremely difficult to convince helpless sinners that they need forgiveness if sin is just a liturgical term used in Sunday school. When economists pursue their research they take into account the consumer s behavior having clear preferences, a budget constraint, the determination of price, and rational behavior. Having these assumptions allows economists to know what the consumer is thinking while considering a good or service. Since every persons wants/needs are different, we can assume that different households have different preferences towards goods and services. Having clear preferences is one assumption made by economists that consumers show in their behavior. This involves knowing as a consumer, the certain goods and services that are available in the market. However, the buyer must also have some knowledge of the amount of marginal utility they will receive from products they may be potentially purchasing. When a consumer has clear preferences they typically react in different ways: complete, monotonic, and transitivity. Complete meaning, they rank their goods on their preferences. Monotonic is describing the consumer as having the attitude more is better . Transitivity prefers goods in different ways meaning: if you prefer Bud Light to Coors Light, but Coors Light to Budweiser than you prefer Bud Light to Budweiser. • 26. English Major Essay In recent years, the English major has faced an increasing amount of scrutiny. While the number of English majors throughout the United States is rapidly declining, majors with roots in science, technology, engineering, and math are praised as worthwhile and immediately beneficial. Beginning shortly after the Great Recession of 2008 2009, humanities based majors have been deemed expendable and trivial. President Barack Obamas 2011 State of the Union Address only served to propel this mindset as he renewed his commitment for his Educate to Innovate platform that specifically targets [science, technology, engineering, and math degrees] as a means of helping to rebuild America s economic edge (Luangphinith 64). The assassination of Abraham Lincoln further alienated the North and the South after the Civil War because his death did not allow his plan for reconstruction to go through and unify them. On the evening on April 14, 1856, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, who had already attempted to kidnap Lincoln twice already, while attending the play of Our American Cousin at Ford s Theater. Sitting with him were Mayor Henry Rathbone and his fiancГ©e, Clare Harris. While watching the play, Booth sneaked into the box the president, a knife in his left hand and a pistol in his right. Booth shot the president in the back of the head, slashed Rathbone across the arm, and jumped off the balcony. Booth caught his leg on a flag on the way down and broke his leg. Lincoln was carried to a boarding house next door and died the next day. President Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated in United Stateshistory. John booth escaped, sought medical attention for his wounded leg, and fled into the Virginia country side. Union troops found the barn he was hiding in, surrounded it, set it on fire, and shot Booth as he attempted to escape ( The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln, 34f). The president s body was taken by train to Springfield, Illinois, where he was then buried. • 29. Why School Start Times For Students Essay Many young students, from the U.S. and abroad, have to wake up at an earlier time in order to get to school. What many of them do not realize however is the effects it can have on their body s development. Sleep is seen as unnecessary or even pointless to many young children, but as they get older, their appreciation for the act becomes widely apparent. Lots of educational systems all over the country still start school at a time earlier than 8 o clock in the morning. The developing students who have to wake up at such an early time don t realize that they shouldn t have to wake up so early in the morning, and that is because their bodies simply don t function properly at a certain time and with a lack of sleep. I believe that school start times for students that are in primary and secondary school should start later because doing so will have a positive effect on their overall physical health as well as their psychosocial development. School start times play a very big role in a student s overall development, especially when they aren t getting enough sleep because of it. An important factor to consider for a student s development is the act of sleeping; that a lack of it can cause serious problems to the students growing body. • 30. The Pros And Cons Of The War On Terrorism Fighting fire with fire, or in this case, fighting terrorism with terrorism. This, simply put, is what many believe to be the solution to terrorism a War on Terror. NATO is well known for being one of the largest and strongest organizations or military alliances in which participating states agree to mutual defense in any event of an external attack. Since the attack of 9/11, NATO, with the lead of the U.S., has been determined to eradicate each and every single terrorist group or any form of terrorism. Over the years, these motivations have sparked countless controversial issues as ethics of this war became increasingly questionable. Although many may support this concept of a War on Terror , it is simply, without question, economically damaging, misleading, and a hopeless attempt to solve the issue of terrorism. In 2011, expenses for the War on Terror were reported by the Pentagon to be about $1 trillion. However, when experts carefully analyzed the data and expenses, they had discovered hidden costs that were left unmentioned by the Pentagon, creating a new total of approximately $4.4 trillion. To put this into perspective, $4.4 trillion is over a fifth of the total U.S. tax revenue from 2001 2011 (about $21 trillion). If just $1 billion in education spending adds $1.3 billion to the economy and creates 17,687 jobs, imagine the benefits from the thousands of billions of dollars that are used to support the War on Terror. As a result, many jobs and economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Collegiate Experience Of Student Athletes The collegiate experience of student athletes varies across the sports played, divisions, and grade level. Division one athletes are the most likely to be engaged in the college experience than other athletes (NCAA, 2015). One big predictor in the level that student engage in the college experience is whether they view themselves as an athlete or a student (NCAA, 2015). That decision holds implications from there on. Those who identify more as an athlete and less as a student tend to have lower gpa s, and devote less time to their academic work than other students. Those that identify as students have an average gpa of 3.2, spend 30 hours on athletics, 40 on academics, and miss an average of 1.3 classes (NCAA, 2015). Those that identify more as athletes have an average gpa of 2.9, spend 35 hours a week on athletics, spend 36 on academics, and miss an average of 1.7 classes (NCAA, 2015). The amount of time spent toward various activities varies across different sports and the level of commitment they require. Despite this student athletes in all sports generally commit large amounts of time to both athletics and academic endeavors (NCAA, 2015). Mulvey proposed that the conventions of popular narrative cinema are structured by a patriarchal unconscious, positioning woman represented in films as objects as a male gaze (76). The male gaze is closely related to the stereotype of the dumb blonde. The character of the dumb blonde is always represented as highly sexual and attractive and is, therefore, the misogynistic male viewer. The blonde woman has put in films as the weak, helpless, stupid character. The cycle goes as follows: education in most cases directly affects the type of job you have. The type of job you have affects your wealth, which in turn affects your ability to buy a house (mortgage or not) in a quality area. The quality of the area, then affects the type of educationyou get. This is a cycle that while was once racist, now unintentionally constrains people to the same socioeconomic class as the one they were born into. It just so happens that due to the previous intentions, many African Americans are trapped in a low socioeconomic class and are unable to advance. In fact, America today according to a few large studies, is less mobile (moving up in socioeconomic class) than other comparable nations. One study for example found that around 42% of American men who were brought up in the bottom fifth of American incomes, stayed there throughout their lives. This same study found that only around 8% of American men gained access to the top fifth from the bottom, a number lower than others like the Danes or the British ( Harder for Americans to Rise From Lower Rungs ). Unfortunately, minorities in America are at the largest disadvantage economically due to this cycle. First, it is very costly to open a new location or purchase an existing location, with the median startup cost being $300,000 (Kalnins Lafontaine, 2004, p. 750). As well, the company does an extensive background check on a variety of issues including credit history, business management experience, and the acceptance of the contractual agreement that the company provides. Because of these strict rules and the large amount of capital needed to purchase a location, rates for franchise applicants are 1% for McDonald s (Norton, 1988, p. 204). This is an extremely low acceptance rate and is even lower than McDonald s chief competitor, Burger King, who accepts 1.5% percent of applicants (Norton, 1988, p. 199). These low numbers are understandable in the context of the business and risk that is involved. Though the franchise purchaser must pay a large amount of money to gain the rights to the restaurant, they truly have nothing to lose besides money because they are simply running another company s business model as well as using their trademarks and logos.
