WHAT IS IMAGE MANAGEMENT ??
It is the way of handling and managing the
images you take.
This includes:
 Storage
 Conversion of formats
 Taking Backups
 Editing
 Saving
 Easy Access
STORAGE
 Digital images need to be stored on some
storage device.
 Digital Cameras these days have Memory
Cards which are capable of holding large
amount of data.
Memory Cards are available in various
storage sizes like 4 GB, 8GB, 16GB and
more
STORAGE
 Image size also is a very important factor when
we talk about storage.
 When the images are clicked in RAW format which
is better for editing purposes, the image size is
very large.
 But compressed formats like JPEG provide same
resolution using four to five times less storage
than RAW images.
 So, it solely depends upon the user whether
quality is important or quantity.
FORMAT CONVERSION
We can convert the file formats of images if
needed.
There are various file formats like JPEG, PNG,
TIFF, GIF, BMP, RAW Formats and others.
They all have their own specific uses, so,
sometimes one might need to change an
image’s format.
BACKUP
 Backup is considerably the most important part
of image management.
 The pictures which are clicked are saved on the
memory card but memory card doesn’t provide
unlimited storage.
 The pictures need to be saved somewhere else
so that they can be accessed any time when
needed.
 Some storage options are hard disks, CDs and
DVDs, Flash drives etc.
BACKUP
 Internet has proved to be a solution for storage
problems.
We can now store images on cloud space and
access them anytime through internet.
 The key to a good backup is that “ONE SHOULD
NEVER WORK ON ORIGINALS”.
 Your original image should remain intact for
further usage.
EASY ACCESS
 If one isn’t using any image management
software, then he/she must store the images,
their backups etc. in a hierarchical manner.
 Sort them according to dates, places etc.
 This will make access to the desirable photo
easier.
IMAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
 There are many software available for image
management.
 Some are free, some are paid.
 Some are for amateurs, some are for professionals.
 Examples of such software:
Windows Live Photo Gallery
iPhoto
Google Picasa
Adobe Bridge
Adobe Lightroom
Aperture
IMAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
Windows Live Photo Gallery and iPhoto both
are free software provided by Microsoft
Windows and Apple.
 They help you arrange your images.
 Both software allow you to do basic editing in
images.
 WL Photo Gallery even allows you to stitch
panoramas.
IMAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
 Picasa, a free software offered by Google is a
really powerful tool for Image Management.
 It allows you to create your own albums.
 It has a good build in photo editor and filter
gallery.
 The most differentiating thing about Picasa is
its face detection feature which no other
software has.
We can create albums according to the people
who are there in the photos.
IMAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
 Adobe Bride, by Adobe Inc. is a software that
manages images on a system.
 As its name suggests, it acts as a bridge
between various Adobe Applications like
Photoshop, Illustrator etc. to import pictures.
IMAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
 There are more professional options available in Image
Managing Software and are paid software.
 Adobe Lightroom, provided by Adobe Inc. a professional
photo editor and manager which is preferred by most
photographers is a powerful tool.
 It helps you organize the images and edit them.
 Aperture, an offering from Apple, is much powerful option
than its free counterpart iPhoto and ensures easy
handling and editing.
Thank You
