This document discusses a technique for enhancing mammogram images to aid in the detection of breast cancer. It proposes using a frequency domain smoothing-sharpening technique that combines the advantages of smoothing and sharpening processes. This technique aims to highlight changes in image intensity while removing random noise. The technique is tested on breast x-ray mammograms. Simulation results show the technique has potential to enhance image contrast, aiding radiologists in detecting and classifying breast cancer in mammograms. Key aspects of the technique include using Gabor filters in the frequency domain and optimizing parameters to improve contrast without losing relevant image information or introducing artifacts.
