· GDP growth of Pakistan has increased to 4.24% in 2014-15
against 4.03% recorded in the same period last year
· The agriculture sector accounts for 20.9% of GDP and 43.5% of
employment. Agriculture sector registered a growth of 2.9%
during the fiscal year 2014/2015 as compared to growth of 2.7%
during the last fiscal year
· Rice production has increased to 7,005 KT in 2014-15 as
compared to 6,798 KT in 2013-14 showing an increase of 3.0
percent. Other crops witnessed a positive growth of 1.1% in
2014-15, against negative growth of 5.4% during the same
period last year
· The Livestock sector which contributes 56.3% in the agriculture
recorded a positive growth of 4.1 percent in 2014-15 against
2.8% growth during the same period last year.
· The gross production of milk (all kinds) rose to 52,632 KT as
compared to 50,990 KT in 2013-14
· Meat production increased to 3,696 KT in 2014-15 as compared
to 3,531 KT in the period of 2013-14
· Poultry is a promising sector of agriculture in Pakistan. Poultry
meat contributes 28.0% of the total meat production. The
current investment in Poultry Industry is more than Rs.200
billion. Poultry sector has shown a robust growth of 8-10%
annually which reflects its inherent potential. This sector has
contributed 1.3% in GDP during 2014-15 while it’s contribution
in agriculture and livestock value added stood at 6.3% and
11.2%, respectively
· The Fishing sector contributed 2.1% in agriculture value
addition recorded a growth of 5.8% as against last year’s
growth of 1.0%.
