1. Prayer is important because God desires partnership with humanity, and will not act without human cooperation and prayer. 2. Several biblical examples show God changing His mind and altering His plans when people pray, including Noah appealing during the Flood, Moses interceding for Israel during the golden calf incident, and Hezekiah receiving more years of life. 3. The passage calls the church to pray on behalf of the land, as history belongs to people who pray, and prayer can shift destruction to beauty when people repent as in the story of Jonah and Nineveh.
