Native vs. Web vs. Hybrid: Mobile Development ChoicesJason Grigsby
The iPhone App Store has captured the imagination of entrepreneurs everywhere. There is a gold rush happening.
This presentation explains why we chose not to become full time cocoa developers, the challenges people are currently facing in the iPhone App Store, and the long term picture for mobile web applications.
It also describes an interim strategy of building hybrid applications using web technology so that you can use a common code base and publish your application to the various application stores for iPhone, Android, Blackberrry, etc.

This presentation covers a range of commonly asked questions when businesses start out developing apps for internal and external facing applications.
The goal of this talk is to provide a general overview of effort that goes into, and to familiarize listeners with, making an unpacker or a validator for various ranges of binary file formats. Unpackers and validators are used in various ranges of security and utility products. Anti-virus products use them to do file introspection and ease malware detection while other uses include applications in hard-drive forensics and even everyday file extraction from archives. File format analysis enables writing such tools. The talk will provide real life experience, advice and techniques with insight into both analysis and programming challenges that are encountered daily and suggestions on how to solve them. Focus of this talk will be on the most common file formats that are encountered in the “wild”.
Why do mobile projects (still) fail - September 2014 editionIndiginox
My talk around the reasons mobile projects fail and what you can do to prevent some of the pitfalls. This talk doesn't talk about code or deep dive technical development - but about the "other" problems that can befall a mobile project - especially in large organizations.
Presentation at Inside Mobile Conference (O'Reilly and 360Conferences) at San Jose, CA on July 27th, 2009.
Today is possible to create mobile offline (and installed) applications using web-related technologies (XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Flash) and additional APIs. WRT for Nokia-Symbian, WebUI for Motorola, WebOS for Palm Pre, online/offline Webapps for iPhone 3.0, widgets for BlackBerry, and other mobile widget platforms for Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia S40, Windows Mobile, Opera and Yahoo!. There is also a new hybrid paradigm using the best of the web technologies and a native development, like the PhoneGap project that can be distributed in the AppStore.
What can we do using this technology? what are the differences between platforms? Can we distribute them in the Application Stores? What compatibility do we have with web standards? What kind of applications are best-suited for this platforms? How to access location, contacts, accelerometer, SMS, home screen and Internet for each platform? What about security and privacy of my code?
Let's see how to create mobile web 2.0 mashups ported to many platforms in a couple of minutes using web knowledge.

HTML5 and the dawn of rich mobile web applicationsJames Pearce
HTML5 and its related technologies are enabling new ways to build beautiful sites and applications for contemporary mobile devices. Native mobile developers can now use web technologies to surmount cross-platform headaches, and desktop web developers can reach mobile users in familiar, app-like ways. This session explores the state of the art in HTML5-based mobile web frameworks, and demonstrates the practical possibilities that this powerful and standards-based approach can bring.
Shows the value of mobile apps, and explain what it takes to create your own. Focuses on Qt, licensing, app stores, cost of development etc.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
LF Energy Webinar: Electrical Grid Modelling and Simulation Through PowSyBl -...DanBrown980551

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
