This document summarizes Hussein El Feki's application to IE University. It describes his struggles with dyslexia and ADHD as a student in Egypt where the schools did not provide adequate support. He faced many obstacles in school and had low self-esteem. His family eventually moved to Canada where he received help and is now able to read and write at grade level. 4. ¡Schools in
Egypt!
Schools in Egypt did not help me with my dyslexia. I would
always get in trouble for not doing my work or not doing good
enough on a test. They thought I was messing around and not
studying but in reality I was trying as hard as I could.
I just wanted to go home. I did not like school, I felt like all the
teachers did not like me.

5. What I Tried

To help me with my reading I went to many centers and doctors to help me but
nothing was helpful. I even tried helping myself in many ways I would try to read a
book or a comic but it was very difficult.

6. SELF-ESTEEM
At this point I was so frustrated that I did not
want to go to school at all and had given up on
learning. I was so disappointed that all my
friends could read and write and I was
struggling.
Why did it have to be so hard for me?
No matter what I tried nothing was helping.

7. Changing Schools
In Egypt I changed schools multiple times
because none of them understood my
condition.
A silver lining is that this was good for my
social life because I made a lot friends
over the years! The negative was that I was
not learning anything.

8. Moving to Canada
● My family moved to Canada in
2016 to find help for my ADHD
and Dyslexia.
● I was 12 years old and a
non-reader.
● 6 years later, I can read and write
at grade level and I am able to
access and be successful at
school!

10. Reflections
The challenges I have faced growing up have made me a
stronger person. From a young age I faced setback after
setback every day at school. I very rarely give up and I am
skilled at finding different ways to solve problems. In
addition, my communication and social skills are very
good as in my early years they were my strengths

Opening schools around

It is important to me to
