Plastic age is the coming after the long domination of
Iron Age, plastics are still having more and more to
show, plastic industry is widely complementary
industry, plastic is part of many products nowadays,
almost there is no product without plastic.
After presenting the history of plastic industry in
previous issue, in this issue we will illustrate the
different plastic industry methods.
Plastic industry has many methods but the most
famous are
- Injection
- Blowing
- Thermo form
- Pipes
- Extrusion
- Casting
- Compressing
Injection
Injection is the most
common and old industry method
Injection used to produce different types of plastic
products like covers of TVs, computers, mobiles and
other electrical and electronic products, also plastic
dishes and cups, plastic spoons and garden furniture
…etc
4. IDT MAGAZINE – 3rd Issue 12-2008 Page 4
The injection products can be few grams or many
kilograms, also can by simple or complex
The injection
machine is
defined by its
power to close its
moulds (that
resist the molten
plastic pressure)
i.e. 200 that
means the
machine can close
the mould by 200
tons force
And the machine consist of
Injection unit where the plastic grains melt and
injected to the mould and mould’s opening and closing
unit that control the mould’s halves
The machine mould control - opening and closing unit -
is either hydraulic of pneumatic controlled

Machine parts
Machine’s operation
We add the plastic grain in the hopper which is go
barrel where the heaters melt the grains and the
pressure and velocity obtained by the screw and finally
the molten plastic get throw the valve to the runners to
the mould where it formed
Moulds
Moulds are consist of two parts
how have the cavities one is
fixed having cavities and
runners (the plastic path to
cavity) and other movable
having the opposite cavity of the
fixed one
Mould’s two Halves
6. IDT MAGAZINE – 3rd Issue 12-2008 Page 6
The mould also has a cooling system to cool the molten
plastic to help in product ejection; also the heating
system is required to help in injection of big products
The products is ejecting by ejector and it different from
mould to another
A well - known speaker started off his seminar by holding up
a $ 20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "who would like
this $ 20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going
to give this $ 20 to one of you but first let me do this."
He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up. He then asked.
"Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air.
"Well, he replied. 'What if I do this?" And he dropped it on
the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his
shoe. He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now
who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.
"My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter
what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease
in value. It was still worth $ 20. Many times in our lives, we are
dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make
and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are
worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you
will never lose your value. You are special don’t ever forget it!
"Never let yesterday's disappointments overshadow tomorrow's
dreams”

999 Steam Locomotive
The 999 Steam Locomotive was a new concept in speed locomotives. Engine 999 was
assigned to hail the New York Central Railroad’s brilliant new passenger train, the Empire
State Express. On May 10,
1893, the 999 became the
fastest land vehicle when it
reached a record speed of
112.5 mph. The 999
maintained the record for a
decade.
Designed by William
Buchanan and
manufactured by the New
York Central Railroad in
West Albany, New York in
1893, the 999 was commissioned to haul the Empire State Express, which ran from
Syracuse to Buffalo. This relatively smooth run and the 999’s cutting-edge design gave the
new locomotive an opportunity to make history.
Following its record-setting run, "The World’s Fastest Locomotive" toured the country and
was displayed at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. After the Exposition,
the 999 continued to provide passenger and freight service for many years. The famous

locomotive returned to Chicago in 1933 for the A Century of Progress World’s Fair and
again from 1948-49 for the Chicago Railroad Fair.
Eventually, technological innovation in the railroad industry limited the 999’s use. In May
of 1952, following a reenactment of its record-breaking run, the 999 was retired from
service.
In 1962, the Museum of Science and Industry acquired the 999 and displayed it outside.
Following a complete restoration from June to October 1993, the 999 was brought inside
to its present location in November 1993.

popularized aviation by giving

It seems the world could not get enough of Sarah Palin.
The Alaska governor and former vice presidential candidate
made headlines with her gun-toting, snowmachining, "you
betcha" style. Palin even dominated tech headlines in October
when a University of Tennessee student hacked into her
Yahoo! Mail account.
Yahoo's worldwide user base seems to prefer a little
more glitz in their searches and Britney Spears, who is
currently enjoying a comeback after a few years of self-
implosion, topped Yahoo's list. Other topics of interest
included Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment, Miley Cyrus and
the only politician to make Yahoo's top 10 was the president-elect.

Sand and Stone
A story tells that two friends were
walking through the desert. During
some point of the journey they had an
argument, and one friend slapped the
other one in the face. The one who got
slapped was hurt, but without saying :
anything, wrote in the sand: "TODAY
MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN
THE FACE." :
They kept on walking until they found
an oasis, where they decided to take a :!
bath. The one, who had been slapped,
got stuck in the mire and started
drowning, but the friend saved him.
After the friend recovered from the near
drowning, he wrote on a stone: "TODAY
...
MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."
The friend who had slapped and saved
his best friend asked him, "After I hurt
you, you wrote in the sand and now, you
(( ))
write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied: "When
someone hurts us, we should write it
down in sand where winds of
forgiveness can erase it away. But, when
someone does something good for us, :
we must engrave it in stone where no
wind can ever erase it."
