This document provides an A-Z list of ICT tools that can be used to support the development of oracy skills in the foreign language classroom. It lists over 50 websites and applications that allow students to record and edit audio/video, create multimedia projects, record voice memos, make animations and talking images, develop presentations and stories, and more. Many of the tools listed are available as both websites and mobile applications, allowing students to complete projects both in the classroom and on the go.

Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ is a programme that allows you to record
and edit sound straight to your computer-with a microphone. It is a popular programme
with podcasters.
Audioboo http://audioboo.fm/ is an audio blogging site. You can send in updates
through the web or a smart phone. It is perfect for blogging on the move, like on school
trips or for sharing opinions about a topic. (mobile app available)

Blabberize.com http://blabberize.com/ allows you to animate pictures of people and
animals and to add sound to make them appear as if they are talking.

Capzles http://www.capzles.com/ is a free web application that allows you to
combine your photos, videos, blog posts and sound files into rich multimedia
storylines.
Creative Commons Search http://search.creativecommons.org/ is a large collection
of audio, video and visual resources which you are legally free to use and share.

DotSUb http://dotsub.com/howto is a website that allows you to upload videos and
put subtitles on them. Perfect to share foreign language resources or to set translation
projects to your students. (students can listen to each other’s speeches, transcribe,
translate and subtitle videos)

Evernote http://evernote.com/ is a cross-platform note-taking tool. Text, pictures,
voice memos and other media are automatically synced across all your devices
including smartphones (mobile app available).

Flickr http://www.flickr.com/ is a web service for storing and sharing your digital
photographs. It also has a large collection of Creative Commons photographs and
pictures that can be used as prompts to speaking activities. (mobile app available)
Fotobabble http://www.fotobabble.com/ enables you to create talking photos in a
few clicks by adding a sound file. (mobile app available)

Go!Animate http://goanimate.com/ is a web application with which you can create
animated comic strips. Great to model and introduce new language.

Hot Potatoes http://hotpot.uvic.ca/ is an application that allows you to create
interactive exercises, which can be added to websites. Free for schools.

images by combining text, symbols and photos. Great for speaking starter activities or

Internet live, creating phlogs–live voice-blogs (mobile app available)

Jamendo http://www.jamendo.com/en/ A European podsafe music site. Download
royalty-free, CreativeCommons music in all major european languages. Great
resource for creative speaking activities.

Kerpoof http://www.kerpoof.com/ allows children to draw, tell stories and create
cartoons and animations. (a new story-telling app is now available)

edit language assignments incorporating voice, video, images, and text.

Memrise http://www.memrise.com is a site to help you memorise key words by
drilling them in your memory in different ways including audio and video (mobile app
available)
Morpho http://www.morfoapp.com/ is a free app that can be used to take a photo
and record different voices onto it.
Myplick http://www.myplick.com/ is a free service that lets you share and embed
presentations online. You can also add narration or sound effects to your presentation
by uploading audio files to it.

Ning http://www.ning.com/what-is-ning/ is a platform for you to create your own
public or private site. It can be used to share audio and video resources and comment
on them. Unfortunately, no longer free.

OneTrueMedia.com http://www.onetruemedia.com/ enables you to produce and
post online slideshows with your own photos and music.

Photo Story 3 http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=11132 is
a Windows desktop application to make photo slideshows to which you can add
commentary, soundtrack and transition effects.
PixnTell is an app that adds your voice to your pictures and creates a personalised
video you can share on Dropbox, Facebook, YouTube or email (mobile app only)

Quizlet http://quizlet.com/ allows you to create and share flaschcards. Great to help
your students revise materials like key vocabulary or prompts for their speaking tasks.

turn video files into audio files.

App that turns speech automatically into a song. Great to practise pronunciation of
new words in a fun way.
Storybird http://storybird.com/ enables you to create short, digital stories which can
then be shared and embedded into blogs and wikis. They can be complemented by
audio files, which is a great way to practise pronunciation and intonation,

TagGalaxy http://www.taggalaxy.de/ allows you to search Flickr tags and displays
the results as a rotating globe. Perfect to introduce topics or to use as prompts for
discussions.
Tagxedo http://www.tagxedo.com/ is a word cloud site that allows customisation,
including a large variety of colour schemes and the ability to change the shape of the
cloud. Great for starters and speaking prompts.

Udemy http://www.udemy.com/courses is a free platform to create online courses
by uploading presentations, video and audio files and more.

Vocaroo http://vocaroo.com/ is an online voice recorder.
Voicethread http://voicethread.com/ is an application that allows you to collaborate
online by sharing media and comments. (mobile app available)
Voki.com http://www.voki.com/ is a tool to enable you to produce speaking animated
avatars. It has a text-to-speech facility in a wide range of languages and you can also
upload your own audio to the avatar you created.
Voxopop http://www.voxopop.com/ is like a forum that uses voice recordings
instead of text. Private talk groups can be set up to discuss specific topics.
W
Wikispaces http://www.wikispaces.com/ provides wikis free of charge to educators.
As anyone can edit wikis, provided they are giving the right to do so, they are great to
share a range of media with students including audio and video resources. They can
also be used to encourage students to comment on specific resources.
Wordfoto http://www.wordfoto.com/ app enabling user to create word cloud in the
shape of a photo of their choice (mobile app only)
Wordle http://www.wordle.net/ allows users to create customisable word clouds
from any given texts or web address. Great to create speaking prompts or visuals for
speaking starters.

Xmind http://www.xmind.net/ is a free mind-mapping desktop application. Great to
present arguments key words/ phrases for discussions and debates.
Y
Youconvertit.com http://www.youconvertit.com/ConvertFiles.aspx allows you to
convert files to any other file format, download online videos from sites such as
YouTube. Useful when collecting audio from different sources.
Z
ZooBurst http://www.zooburst.com/zb_about.php is a tool that allows you to create
your own customised 3D pop-up books with or without sound. The 3D books can also
be used as prompt for speaking.
