Information and communications technology (ICT) in education involves using digital technology, computers, and communication tools in educational systems and learning processes. ICT in education programs were recently launched in Suriname to train teachers to incorporate technology into the classroom. A two-year ICT in Education program was started for teachers at the basic education level, and a three-year program was launched leading to a Bachelor's degree in ICT in Education. The goal is to educate and professionalize teachers to better prepare students for the technological world. The first class of 69 students recently graduated from the ICT in Education bachelor's program.

- 2. WHAT IS ICT IN EDUCATION
- 3. Information and communications technology (ICT) is an extended term for information technology (IT) which stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information.
- 4. ICT IN • Suriname is the first country in the region to have two unique ICT education programs at higher professional level since Monday 28 October. The Ministry of Education and Development, the Institute for the Training of Teachers (IOL) and the International Institute for Education for Development (The Institute) launched the two new studies in collaboration. It is a two- year education ICT in Education at L.O. level and a three-year on MO-A level. After completion of the three- year program, the student will be eligible for the title Bachelor of ICT in Education (B.Ed). • The decision for the B.Ed title has already been issued by the ministry. • For the first time in history, Minov initiated an education "ICT in Education" for teachers at the base, VOJ and VOS level. In doing so, Minov aims to fulfill its policy priorities by educating and professionalizing teachers who want to apply ICT in Surinam Education so that they are better prepared for the challenges in the technological world.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MINOWC) and The Institute (International Institute for Education for Development) in collaboration with the Institute of Teachers' Training (IOL) will start in October 2015 with a second course for the training: ICT in Education at LO level Duration: 2 years Purpose: To gain knowledge about the use of modern technology to support the curriculum Target audience: • Competent teachers already employed at basic and vocational schools • Competent teachers who provide ICT education • Teachers who do not own LO acts but provide ICT Qualified teachers are meant to hold a diploma GLO-1 (BVF) deed or a major act. ICT in Education at MO-A level, with specialization Science & Technology in Basic Education (= Bachelors degree) Duration: 3 years Objective: To promote research-oriented, scientific and problem-solving education using modern technology. Target audience: • Students with a NATIN, IMEAO, HAVO and VWO diploma. • Competent teachers: teachers with a LO deed • Primary school teachers who hold a GLO 1 deed
- 6. FIRST LIGHTING ICT IN EDUCATION GRADUATED • The first 69 students of the ICT education program obtained the title 'Bachelor in Education' after successful completion of the program. Minister Robert Peneux of Education, Science and Culture (MinOWC) is proud of the alumni. • At the end special prizes were awarded to the students who delivered outstanding achievements. For Best Academic Performance, Dhoenand Budhram and Rinia Manbodh were considered. Graduates with Best Overall Performance were Perwinkoemar Mohan, Julian Maclean, John van der Zijden and Sharrel Rigters.
