ICT can be considered to be built on four pillars: computing, connectivity, content and human capacity. While computers and the internet were a focus, ICT applications can be divided into two categories - those reliant on communication networks, and those that are human-independent and make decisions without human intervention. ICT is integral to economic growth, especially in knowledge economies, and can help achieve UN Millennium Development Goals through efficiency, transparency, new opportunities, and empowering citizens.
