Quantity Surveyor
<Miss Jing Pin>
1. How did you become a QS?
I was a student in Universiti of Sains
Malaysia and was pursuing an
Architectural course. However, there
were many problems regarding my
application as a student after a year.
Right after that, I switch my course to
Quantity Surveying and finally
graduated from my Degree in Bachelor

a quantity surveyor and worked in that
profession for 6 years and counting. I
have had thoughts of going back to
Architecture, but then I realized that
Quantity Surveying was a good
profession as I have learnt to grow fond
with it. I was interested in this profession
after a while and this made it easier to

2. In your opinion, what makes a good
QS?
A proactive quantity surveyor with a
good a initiative in mind.

consider as a QS if you were given a
project that would involve building a
building in the forest?
In my opinion, no matter where the
development is or will be located or
what type of development it will turn out
to be, the most important thing is to

understand the entire development in
detail which includes the client's need
With this being said, if the development
is to be in the forest, it all comes down
to whether the client is aiming for profit
or not. Otherwise, we will have a budget
written down but still lose money in the
end. Especially when it requires building
in a remote area.

4. What is your current rank as a QS?
I am currently ranked as a Senior
Project Coordinator

5. How long have you been a QS?
I have been a QS for more than 6 years.

A Quantity Surveyor is one of the core

development, as he or she monitors the
contract and financial cash flow on
behalf of the client.
