An outstanding tourism performance in Europe in 2015 augurs well for continued growth into 2016 following the 5% increase in international tourist arrivals recorded last year. Almost all monitored destinations saw robust results in both overnights and arrivals over January-February 20162, however, figures are expected to moderate as the year progresses. Among the top performers worldwide, strong growth was posted by Spain (+12.5%) – reflecting their efforts to fight seasonality – followed by Austria and Germany (both +5%). In line with the past year’s trend, Turkey (-8.5%) saw arrivals from its key source markets dampen largely due to on-going political and safety challenges.

Having in mind the steady and rapid growth of the tourism sector and number of tourists in the world, it is especially important for Serbia to invest in this sector and to adapt its offer to the different demands of tourists coming from the local and global environment. A large number of Chinese people and middle-class growth in China are certainly some of the reasons why Chinese tourists in the world are gaining increasing importance. The benefits of those tourists have been felt by all countries that have managed to attract them, such as Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, America and several destinations in Europe, including Spain, Great Britain, Italy and France. Although in Serbia the number of tourists from China is not large, this number is growing significantly year after year. One of the reasons is a visa-free regime, but that should not have to be the only reason. Serbia must seriously engage in a race for tourists from China.
Over the past six decades, tourism has emerged as one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. Through its
contribution in employment generation, infrastructure development and export revenue, it has been playing an important
role in the socio-economic progress. Expenditure incurred in the destinations on accommodation, food, entertainment, shopping etc leads to foreign exchange earnings and as a result contributes to the GDP. This has led the nations enhance their investments in the development of Travel & Tourism (T&T).

Euronews Travel Trend Report (October 2020)David Mora
Hit hard by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the travel and tourism sectors are facing a rapidly changing future. As brands and businesses look to recover losses, there’s also a need to re-think their offerings, amid changing consumer behaviour and habits. New mindsets, needs, wants and desires – some fuelled by lockdowns – are emerging.
Low understanding of "beginning" and "end" of parking prohibition, and solutionsStefan Egger
The vertical upward and downward pointing arrows on additional panels used with parking prohibition signs to indicate the beginning or end of a parking prohibition are found not to be understood (study). Solutions are offered which reduce implementation cost of signs, reduce visual clutter on roads and improve understanding.
Passenger journey example
To understand travellers, designers of the ICS combine properties of passengers with infrastructure and environments, they move through, together with tasks to be completed along their path. This produces understanding of the travellers needs in terms of language, understanding of concepts, stress, and more, and allows to establish which, where and when information is needed, and by which means it should be provided. Apart from this, user interaction concepts can be explored through a passenger journey, as this presentation illustrates.
You will see various steps of a passenger journey, appearing needs, encounters with different environments, all having consequences in terms of interaction on an ICS mobile app.

12. Where will growth come from?
International arrivals generated by 100 population, UN World Tourism Organization.
1.8 bn is double the volume of ITA in 2010
The way these arrivals will distributed across region varies greatly -> speed of growth -> first league and second league
This is explained by three key trends occurring in the global tourism secor
Tourism is booming in emerging economies
Emerging markets (e.g. China – boost in intra-regional travel)
More and more destinations tap into the potential of international tourism creating new destinations
Emerging markets (e.g. China – boost in intra-regional travel)
We know from our studies that Europe ranks on top of visitors’ wish list of destinations to visit.
In general a very strong brand, Europe has deficiencies that may become relevant in far distant markets: diversity, cost, low quality compared to newly build destinations in Asia, ME, Africa.
Another game changer is aspects that enable visitors to travel
These game changers are critical for a region that needs to address distant markets to reverse the trend presented before.
And long haul markets are really critical to Europe. The current share of international arrivals from outside Europe is currently 10%, most of which made up by US. But new distant markets are increasingly contributing to growth.
Looking beyond 2030
This is a core element at ETC. Since 1948 NTOs joined their efforts to strengthen the brand Europe all over the world.
But with all the good will, no initiative can be successful without the endorsement, if not the commitment of the private business.
ETC is an established reality that has strong ties with major institutions in the field of tourism as well as top players from the private sector.
ETC can offer this to new players
