Sri Sankaracharya praises Hari, the destroyer of samsara (the cycle of birth and death), in this hymn composed of multiple stanzas. He describes Hari as the origin and basis of the universe, as well as the means of liberation from samsara through realization of the true self. Sankaracharya outlines different paths and methods described in Hindu scriptures by which wise sages have realized Hari as the supreme, all-pervading reality through renunciation, meditation, devotion and self-inquiry.
