9. AUTOCAD
• AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software
application. This software developed by the company Autodesk (hence the name
AutoCAD).
• It allows you to draw and edit digital 2D and 3D designs more quickly and easily
than you could by hand. The files can also be easily saved and stored in the cloud,
so they be accessed anywhere at anytime.
• Here are a few other benefits of AutoCAD:

• AutoCAD is primarily used for Two Dimensional drawings, and even though 3D

24. IS CAD EASY TO LEARN?
2D CAD software's like AutoCAD can be easy to learn and apply, but 2D itself can be
limited when you are trying to conceptualize a 3D object. For instance, if you are
drawing a 3D object you will need to portray them in an 2D orthographic projection
In a 2D software, you might directly draw the 2D orthographic projection, which is not
really the problem. The hassle starts when you edit, for example if you to reduce the
height of the 3D object, hence you need to edit 2 projections (Front & Right Side)
separately. This will get more complicated is you need to edit a complex 3 object.

• With a 3D CAD software (e.g. Solid works), with its parametric modelling
capabilities, you will have to draw the 3D representation first. But when print to
paper, you need to transfer to a 2D orthographic projection, which literally
‘projects’ the model on the 2D platform. If you change any dimension, the 2D
projection will automatically updates itself (or some case, just re-do projection on
the specific section with few clicks)
• Nevertheless,… start with 2D first to get the idea. Then depending on your work,
you will need to decide if you want to move to 3D CAD/BIM Modelling/etc.
26. WHICH IS BEST TO LEARN CATIA, AUTOCAD OR SOLID WORKS?
Stick with any one CAD software and be perfect with it. If you're looking for 3D modelling then
nobody is using AUTOCAD for industries for 3d modelling today, because of the advent to
many other software facilitating the need.
If you're a beginner to 3d modelling then I suggest SolidWorks, because of it's easy user
interface and facilities. In solid works you can find tutorials embedded with the software and
find many models in the you tube.
Within the end of your graduation be a pro in 1 cad software (Solid works, Catia, Creo, NX
CAD etc.), 1 analysis software (Ansys, Hyperworks, Comsol etc) & 1 programming software (
C++, fortran, Matlab etc).
For beginner solid works is good, but higher end designing, professionals use CATIA & NX
CAD.
