Hitachi Unified Storage VM (HUS VM) all
flash system is designed for organizations
that seek to accelerate the performance of
their business applications. With integrated
Hitachi Accelerated Flash and enterprise
storage virtualization, HUS VM delivers
faster access to information and increased
efficiency through central management
of all storage assets. Database, analyt-
ics, virtual desktop and virtualized server
environments benefit from superior perfor-
mance and improved response times.
Flash technology has become more per-
vasive in the data center over the past few
years as IT practitioners seek to provide the
competitive business advantages of real-
time computing. However, its widespread
adoption as a mainstream storage option
has been hampered by high costs, limited
endurance and sub-optimal write perfor-
mance. IT organizations have been forced
to make tradeoffs in performance, capacity
and functionality to reach the cost points that
their shrinking budgets can accommodate.

environmental characteristics desired that
alternative solid-state storage options
cannot match.
Hitachi Accelerated Flash features the new
flash module built specifically for the most
demanding enterprise-class workloads.
Developed originally for the premier enter-
prise Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform,
it is now available for HUS VM. Hitachi
Accelerated Flash features innovative
Hitachi-developed embedded flash memory
controller technology. It is designed to
achieve higher performance, increased dura-
bility and greater capacity compared to the
commodity solid-state drives found in com-
petitive systems. Hitachi flash acceleration
software speeds I/O processing to increase
flash device throughput.
Hitachi Accelerated Flash storage modules
fit into a 2U flash chassis. Each enclosure
holds 12 flash modules to scale up to
19.2TB of flash storage. 1.6TB flash mod-
ules provide 4 times greater density than
the largest solid-state disk available today.
Up to 8 flash enclosures can be housed in
HUS VM, enabling more than 150TB of flash
per system. You can confidently address
the most demanding performance work-
loads while maintaining the same storage
management environment, external storage
virtualization support, superior uptime and
advanced functionality you are accustomed
to from Hitachi.
To provide you with even more capacity cost
savings, Hitachi Accelerated Flash is fully
compatible with all HUS VM features, includ-
ing Hitachi Dynamic Tiering for creating tiers
of storage. This capability lets the system
automatically optimize data placement by
putting the most active data on Hitachi
Accelerated Flash when the highest perfor-
mance is required, and placing less-active
data on cost-optimized, lower performance
disk. Thin provisioning is included to reduce
capacity requirements by increasing utiliza-
tion of your storage.
