 Lets understand the war first…
 Modern day Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam was called as Indo-china and was ruled by the French
 After the world war -2, French was occupied by the Germany and it lost its control over the
indo-china to japan
 The idea of French was capitalist and of japan was communist
 Now, Vietnam got a chance to form its government but due to multiple ideologies
 It was divided into north Vietnam and south Vietnam
 North Vietnam wanted to be communist/Socalist and was supported Russia and china.
While the America feared this ideology would spread the world, so they allied with south
Vietnam and France
In 1976 when the picture of Mr.Ut was floating around the internet the US public protested the
actions of U.S and later it stopped the war Making Vietnam as a single socalist contry
the Americans were more interested in Vietnam war , sending troops over their to fight, they
lost 58,220 U.S soldiers

Associated Press when he was 16,
just after his older brother Huynh
Thanh My, another AP photographer,
was killed in Vietnam. Ut himself
was wounded three times in the war
in his knee, arm, and stomach.
