History of Web Development
• In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee outlined his concept of a computer platform that
could facilitate collaboration among researchers who are based in different
parts of the world. This led to the invention of the Hypertext Markup
Language (HTML) in 1990.
• Strongly based on the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML),
HTML became the fundamental building block of the World Wide Web

• The World Wide Web (WWW) is a network of online content that is
formatted in HTML and accessed via HTTP. The World Wide Web was
originally designed in 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee while he was a contractor
at CERN.
Web 2.0
Web 2.0 moved us from a read-only Internet (web 1.0 )to what experts
would call a “read/write” Internet

WHAT IS WEB DEVELOPMENT
• Web development usually refers to developing a website for the internet.
• There are two broad divisions of web development –
• Front end development(client-side development)
• Back-end Development (also called server-side Development)
• Full stack development

Front End DEVELOPMENT
• Front-end web development is responsible for the look and feel of a website.
• It is also called client-side development.
• This means how colors, type, icons, and images appear. Increasingly, front-end
development has to account for how a website looks on all devices, from desktop to tablet
to phone. Typical programming languages include HTML, JavaScript, and CSS

Back End DEVELOPMENT
• Back-end web development is responsible for building and maintaining the code that runs
a website. This code connects the website to the server and ensures that data flows
properly to the website and that transactions are processed correctly. Typical
programming languages include Java (different from JavaScript), PHP, and MySQL; newer
tools include Python, etc.

Full Stack DEVELOPMENT
• Full-stack web development covers both front-end and back-end responsibilities.
Depending on the complexity of a website, a full-stack developer may be responsible for
all facets of its development, from the server side to the user interface

HTML-History
• HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, which is the most widely used
language on Web to develop web pages.
• HTML was created by Berners-Lee in late 1991.
• But "HTML 2.0" was the first standard HTML specification which was published in
1995.
• HTML 4.01 was a major version of HTML and it was published in late 1999. Though
HTML 4.01 version is widely used, we currently have the HTML-5 version, which is an
extension to HTML 4.01, which was published in 2012.

• HTML 5 is the fifth and current version of HTML. It has improved the markup
available for documents

•It has introduced new multimedia features that support audio and video controls by
using <audio> and <video> tags.
•There are new graphics elements including vector graphics and tags.
•Enrich semantic content by including <header> <footer>, <article>, <section> and
<figure> are added..
•Geo-location services- It helps to locate the geographical location of a client.
•Web storage facility which provides web application methods to store data on a web
browser.
•Uses the SQL database to store data offline.
•Allows drawing various shapes like triangle, rectangle, circle, etc.
•Capable of handling incorrect syntax.
•Easy DOCTYPE declaration i.e. <!doctype html>
•Easy character encoding i.e. <meta charset=”UTF-8″ UTF-8 stands for “Unicode Transformation

HTML-Tools and extensions Required
1.Visual Studio Code is a text editor for HTML with extensive features and innumerable extensions to
choose from to make coding a better experience.
2.Live server extension hosts our code on our default browser.
3.Highlight Matching Tag is used for identifying the opening and closing tags of an HTML element by
highlighting them with the same colored underlines.
4.Auto Rename Tag renames the closing tag in cases where the starting tag is changed.
5.Better Comments have different categories with unique colors to showcase the aim of each comment.
6.Code Spell Checker identifies a wrong spelling and gives suggestions for the right one.
7.Indent Rainbow makes indentation more readable as it uses four alternating colors to highlight
matching tags.
8.Prettier auto formats each element to the next line.
9.Snippet saves a part of the code to be reused in the later stage. It also provides import and export
options for a code snippet.
10.Tabnine is an Ai-based extension that predicts code phrases and words and helps in boosting
productivity levels.

The id attribute is used to specify the unique ID for an element of the HTML
document. It allocates the unique identifier which is used by the CSS and

In the Cascading Style sheet (CSS), we can easily select an element with the specific id by using the # symbol
followed by id.

HTML-ID vs Classes

An ID: allows developers to identify a single element in the HTML code and apply a
particular style to it.
IDs are specific and targeted, similar to a proper noun.
There can be multiple elements on a page, but the ID marks a specific element.
Each element can only have one ID, and each page can only have one element with that
specific ID.
Class: While an ID is specific to a single element, classes can be assigned to multiple
elements on a page or throughout the website. They are not unique. And while a single
element can only have one ID, it can have multiple classes

attributes:
1.charset attribute: It defines the character set to be used by the browser when
loading a webpage.
2.name attribute: It sets a property to some of the most important meta

4.content attribute: It works with the name or http-equiv attribute to give a
value to the property mentioned in them.
The <meta> element in HTML is used to display additional information about
HTML document with the help of different attributes. This information
device displays (how to show content and when to refresh a page) and ranks

During the collection of information about our webpage using the HTTP header, the HTTP-
is used. HTTP headers allow the passage of information with an HTTP response and request between
server and client. In case we want the page to be refreshed after some fixed duration, we can pass the
request using the HTTP header. HTTP headers also help in the creation of a cookie.
The below example show how we can refresh our page every 45 seconds:

GET Method It is not secure as data is displayed in the URL. If the method is not specified, the value is
set to "get" as default.
POST Method POST Methos is used to process sensitive data as the data is not displayed in the URL.
Form data is sent as per the HTTP post-transaction

When we want the user to enter a required field, we use the required attribute. If that person does not
enter it, the form will be unable to be submitted.
target
The target attribute specifies where the response should be opened after the form has been submitted.

The <label> element also help users who have difficulty clicking on very small
regions (such as radio buttons or checkboxes) - because when the user clicks
the text within the <label> element, it toggles the radio button/checkbox.
The for attribute of the <label> tag should be equal to the id attribute of the
<input> element to bind them together.
