This document discusses different methods of employee performance appraisal. It describes rating employees by a group of people to reduce bias, but notes it is time consuming. Another method involves an outside rater such as for a promotion, which also reduces bias but the rater may be unaware and it is time consuming. A third traditional method identifies good and poor performers to give special treatment. Finally, it discusses using statistical tools for time motion studies to quickly analyze performance over long periods with random observations of many employees, but this is a long process.
