How To
Worship
Lead?
Your role as a
worship
leader is to
connect
people to
GOD.
Worship is all about

Not YOU, your Band, or
the Crowd
Prepare
yourself
spiritually
before the
Lord.
Dedication of the Wall of Jerusalem

27 At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the
Levites were sought out from where they lived
and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate
joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving
and with the music of cymbals, harps and lyres.
28 The musicians also were brought together
from the region around Jerusalem—from the
villages of the Netophathites, 29 from Beth Gilgal,
and from the area of Geba and Azmaveth, for
the musicians had built villages for themselves
around Jerusalem. 30 When the priests and
Levites had purified themselves ceremonially,
they purified the people, the gates and the wall.
Spend time
with God daily
& listen for the
theme.
Technical
Preparations
Assess &
Anticipate

the crowd
Before selecting
your songs,
decide on the
style.
Your songs
selection
must be
BIBLICAL and
about JESUS.
Remind yourself that
It’s not about you…
Need some
IDEAS?
Send your songs and
chords to your band
members to listen first
before you meet for
practice.
Song transitions
are very
important for a
smooth flow.
Work on it over
and over again.
Then PRAY.
During Worship
Your role as a
worship
leader is to
connect
people to
GOD.
Communicate with
your band and
congregation
Determine your songs
arrangement and
execute them.
God’s word
should be
read. Who
knows
whose heart
it may cut?
A successful worship is not gauge by whether the
congregation jumped during the worship service
but rather what happens after that.
Don’t be rigid.
Sometimes you
may need to
forgo all that
you have
practiced.
How do you lead
when you are in a
Brethren Worship
Service setting?
Most of all, make sure you enjoy the
worship experience yourself.
After Worship
Get
feedback
from your
friends, loved
ones or your
church
leaders.
In all the good works that you do, there
will always be criticism. What is true take
it, and thrash the nonsense.

The End.

How to worship lead?

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Today, I am here to share about my experiences about Worship leading. I am no expert but just a time of sharing experiences together.Worship It’s about lifestyleIt’s not about the 30 – 60 minutes of that singing session which we have in our service. A lot of us are confused by that. The 30 min session is just another part of our worship to God.How many find that our worship session in church or our Youth fellowship is boring? That is because we do not have a life of worship in our Mon – Sat. If we did not have a relationship with God every day, how can we be able to Praise, Celebrate and worship God on that Sunday?Worse still if we as worship leaders do not have a relationship with God in our lives, how can we lead others and be an example to worship God?Don’t get me wrong, we are all at different stages of our spiritual lives. As long as we work at it, then there is movement and growth.
  • #3 As a worship leader, we need to know what is our ROLE. Your role is to connect people to God. Let the Holy Spirit use you to inspire others to worship God.
  • #4 As a worship leader, we need to know that worship is all about Jesus. It’s not about you, your band or the crowd. In our preparation, during the worship service itself and after, it should be all about Jesus. We sometimes worry too much about the music, the band members and what the congregation will think.
  • #5 Today, the practical session that I have is broken into 3 parts. PreparationDuring the service itselfAfter WorshipMost of the work are actually at the preparation. It takes days to prepare. Worship meeting is only that 30 – 60 minutes slot.
  • #6 I believe spiritual preparation is the most crucial part of planning a worship session. This is long-term and not just for a few days. Many of us will struggle with this. But like I said, we need to move forward and not stay at where we are.
  • #7 Let’s read Nehemiah 12:27 - 30
  • #8 The priests and levites have to purify themselves before they can purify others. This was during the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem to God. It was a big thing. In modern context after Christ. We no longer have to be bound to these rituals but, I believe that we need to purify our hearts as worship leaders before lead others to worship God.Is there any unconfessed sin that may hinder us to be an instrument used by God?Are we planning the worship revolving us?Do we need to resolve any issues with others? What else?
  • #16 During practices, work with your musicians the transition of songs after all the songs are familiarized. Transitions are very important for the smooth flow during the worship service. Also you will need to determine the key whether if it’s too high for the congregation (taking in account ladies and men). Keep practicing until you are comfortable.
  • #17 What do you do during worship?
  • #18 So do not draw any attention to yourself or to the band. Draw their attention to God.
  • #19 Communicate with your band using sign languages or speak through the mic. Let your congregation and band know where you are headed in that song.
  • #20 Samples of different arrangement should be demonstrated. Start with fast songs then slow songs are typical. Start with fast, then slow and then end with a uplifting song. Show how to transit from fast to meditative.
  • #21 The Bible says that God’s word is sharper than any double-edged sword. It’s God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. 2 Tim 3:16.
  • #22 People wants to make the worship service happening by making people jump. I was guilty as charged. MCA hall experience to be shared. If you feel like jumping because you know God has been great and you rejoice, then you jump. Not for the sake of jumping alone or peer pressure.
  • #23 Sometime you may need to change certain songs. If you have this strong urge and feeling to do so, you may want to do it. But do notify your musicians so that they can help you.
  • #24 There are a few ways of teaching new songs. Let the congregation here the song first before the service starts while waiting for the rest to arrive. Post it on your church Facebook Page if there is any link of the song you can share. You may not want the congregation to stand or sometimes you may want to. Repeat verse 2 – 3 times and then Chorus. Ask them to join in slowly.
  • #25 Suggest to your leadership to put microphones at the front, side, middle and back of the hall. Show a demo here. Work with your musicians before hand if you could. Be in tuned with the spirit and its theme during the service.

  • #28 Not to brag about yourself but rather how can you improve if there was any wrong. Go to someone whom you look up to or you can trust. Remember, there will always be criticism for other members in all that we do.
