1. How to Take Backup of Emails
from cPanel
cPanel account migration is a very common problem. Hoping
from one server to another is easy, and since it is automated, we
are used to doing it. Email accounts are also automatically
transferred, but restoring your emails can be tricky. Using the
cPanel backup wizard to restore can be tricky, but there also are
some other ways to do the job. Those are:
1. Backing up emails via File Manager
Step I: Sign in to your cPanel account.
open the ‘File Manager’ option under ‘Files’ tab.

Step II: Click on your account's home directory, navigate to
‘Mail’ folder and select it.
3. Step III: Right-click on the ‘Mail’ option, look for the ‘Compress’
option, and select it. There are various types of compression
extensions like .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2.
Step IV: Choose one of the compression techniques as per your
requirement.
Step V: Leave the name as it is and click on the ‘Compress
File(s)’ button.
Step VI: The compressed file is stored on your hosting account
server. Right-click on the compressed file and download it.
You have successfully backed up and downloaded your emails.

2. Backing up using the Export Feature
While the File manager generated backup is useful for restoring
emails on another server, you’ll have to take a backup of emails
4. from cPanel via the Export feature if you wish to access those
emails on your local system.
The Export feature we are going to use saves the emails in the
standard MBOX format that makes the emails easily readable on
your machine because popular email clients like Mozilla
Thunderbird support the format. To take a backup through the
Export feature:
Step I: Login to your cPanel account. Click on ‘Email Accounts’
option under ‘Emails’ tab.
Step II: You’ll find all the emails linked to your cPanel account
on this page. You’ll also find three buttons, namely, ‘Check Email,’
‘Manage,’ and ‘Connect Devices’, corresponding to each email.
Click on the ‘Check Email’ button in front of the email address
you wish to backup. You can also take backups of the other
email accounts if you have more than one linked to your cPanel.

Step III: Now click on ‘Horde’ and click the ‘Open’ button. The
Webmail interface will open for you to view emails.
Step IV: Now, right-click on the mailboxes and choose the
‘Export’ option, do this one mailbox at a time.
6. Step V: Click on the ‘OK’ button to download the email backup.

The emails have been downloaded on your machine as a backup
file. The emails can easily be opened in Mozilla Thunderbird or
other free email client applications.
