Biblical literacy is more than just reading the Bible- it is also about reading the Bible for all it is worth! This workshop will unpack a simple and practical for-part method for group Bible study that will enliven, enrich and transform how you and your study group encounter the Bible. The Bible will never be the same!
God gave us His Word for a purpose. God wants us to be with Him in heaven. To do this we must change from serving Satan to serving God. God gave His Word so we would know how to live our lives. God gave His Word so we would change.
Do you desire to hear God's voice? How do you know when He's speaking? This study details the methods through which God speaks and the heart we must have in order to hear Him clearly.
Repentance In Christian Conversion
Repentance is an act by which we realise we have offended an Holy and righteous God; this act is characterised by a deliberate turn away from the sinful act(s) in question, begging for God’s forgiveness and turning to him and his ways. Repentance is also that window that opens for us to see what we are called to; this being that, we are to represent God’s living and working in human life; how the effects of sin’s offensive attack on God defeats this purpose and how it can be remedied by means of the lordship of God’s Spirit over man’s spirit, soul and body.
You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. - James 4:1-3
In other words, if your needs just keep on not being taken care of, it’s either because you’re not praying at all or because you think you’re praying and you’re not!

How to study the bible - Pastor Joseph V. TheluscaClint Brown
Power Point Presentation on the various ways to read and study the bible by Pastor Joseph V. Thelusca of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of the Oranges.
In this post I discuss in detail expository preaching outlines. A good rule of thumb is to create and develop outline points that the listener can understand if all he or she had was a Bible and the written outline. As he or she reads the passage and observes the expository sermon outline points it should be obvious how the selected text dramatically relates to his or her Christian journey. The outline should not merely inform the reader of a “premise” or a “promise” but rather help them to do some soul-searching that may lead to a transformed life.
We’ve begun exploring the difference between science and religion .docxhelzerpatrina
We’ve begun exploring the difference between science and religion and facts and beliefs in the discussion threads along with the Week 1 reflection paper on beliefs. This thread explores what spiritual growth means (need compelling definitions from those quality sources) and how are discussions fit. The images of rooms in a house or possible paths to take or a journey and our work in this thread deepens the central point of a religious quest as growing spiritually.
In week five the concept of biblical literalism is examined in regards to an informed, living Word of God foundation, which is not easy, nor short term, nor isolated is the mature, experienced, and prayerful interpretation of Sacred Scriptures. But this is one of several points that we should note and then study in reference to a mature faith and biblical studies. (This is a good point to include in the Week 3 Written Assignment!) (Biology is another point to relate to our work!) Just as we were born small, defenseless, incapable of speech and had the capacity for understanding but knew nothing, human development (each of us) needed to physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually needed to grow, deepen, and progress through stages that take time. See Kohlberg’s Model of Moral Development that might provide some insights in graphical form.
Also, check out the lecture for this week to aid in our work.

Religious Quest – RELS 1325
Rev. Paul Hudec, PhD
Week 3 Written Assignment (quiz/journal, etc.)
This assignment will provide evidence regarding mastery of the important concepts of the material through the end of this portion of the course including references (sources) as they refer to each item below. This is a formal paper which is different from the Week 1 informal, reflection paper. Citations linked to sources are required in each of the following topics.
Organize the paper with a header or section title and (you can use single-spacing rather than double-spacing if you’d like) with any references to the text and other sources identified as footnotes or as endnotes or in a proper documentation style at the end of this short paper.
This is not a memory test or assessment on persons, places, or things, but on the quality sources discovered and the material these sources provided along with insights gained in the discussions that logically flow from these sources.
What expert and professional sources have you found in these first three weeks that aid your efforts in this course Religious Quest and how have they helped (list each and what insights have they provided)?
What is the religious quest and how do the attributes of God as discussed in the discussion threads fit within that quest?
What is spiritual growth and what models were explored in the discussion threads?
How does science inform the religious quest?
Each answer to the above questions should be at least ½ page (single-spaced or 1 full page if doub ...

Are you in the dip? You know, that time in your faith when you are just a Christian because you always have been. Do you have a hard time wanting to read your Bible? Do you remember times when your love for God fueled your life? In this seminar, we will discuss how to help you crave the things of God again.
Spreading the love of Christ is tough on campus whenever you are asked about the accuracy of the Bible. Things get really crazy when someone says “How can a good God allow suffering in the world?” We will discuss how to handle these tough questions with some very simple answers that will not cause you to lose a friend.
A seminar/talk about the 4 types of relationships that are described in the Bible.
Key areas are 1. Friendships 2. Intimate Friendships 3. Dating/Courting 4. Marriage
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

2. OBSERVATION
In the Observation stage, read and reread your
passage simply to familiarize yourself with the text.
As you read, observe as many details as possible
by asking the six investigative questions to the text
(who, what, when, where, why, and how).
3. OBSERVATION
Who is the author, and who are
the recipients?
Who are the main characters
involved in the text?
What is happening in the text?
What is the author intending to
communicate?
What are key words in the text?
What is the context of this verse?
What important comparisons or
contrasts do you see?
What is the genre (type of
literature) of this passage?
When do the events take place?
Where do these events take
place?
Why do the events take place?
Why was this text written?
How do these events occur?
4. INTERPRETATION
What do the key terms mean?
How do the verses or phrases relate to each other?
How does this passage fit into the larger story of the book it is
in?
How does this passage relate to the story of the Bible as a
whole?
How does the genre affect my interpretation of this passage?
How does this passage point to or speak of Jesus Christ?
What are the differences between the biblical audience and
myself?
5. DEVELOPING THE
THEOLOGICAL PRINCIPLE
The principle...
Should be reflected in the text
Should be timeless (not tied to a specific situation)
Should not be culturally bound
Should correspond to the teaching of the rest of
Scripture
Should be relevant to both Biblical and
contemporary audience
*From Grasping God’s Word by J. Scott Duvall and J. Daniel Hayes
6. APPLICATION
Studying the Bible is more than just arriving at the
proper mental comprehension of a passage.
Knowledge without application is useless
information (cf. James 1:22-24).
7. APPLICATION
Is there an application already in the text? Is there a
command or exhortation for how we should live?
What does this biblical principle mean today?
What would the application of this verse look like in my life?
What difference does this make in my life?
How can this biblical principle help me in my walk with
God?
8. APPLICATION
Application cannot take place apart from the Holy
Spirit.
When you ask God to speak to you, you are asking
the Holy Spirit to guide you into accepting and
living out the truths found in Scriptures.
Application is the heart of the interpretation
process.

12. EXAMPLE
Read: Philippians 4:10-13 Title: Secret of Contentment
H (Highlight) – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians
4:13
E (Explain) – The Apostle Paul is telling the church at Philippi that he has discovered
the secret of contentment. No matter what situation was brought into Paul’s life, he
realized that Christ was all he needed, and Christ was the one who strengthened him to
persevere through difficult times.
A (Apply) – In my life, I will come across many ups and downs. My contentment is not
found in circumstances; my contentment is grounded in my relationship with Jesus
Christ. Only Jesus gives me the strength I need to be content in all seasons of life.
R (Respond) – Lord Jesus, help me as I strive to draw my contentment from You.
Through Your strength, I can make it through all the various situations in life.

14. HOW TO LEAD A BIBLE
STUDY
3Steps to leading a Bible Study
Prep – H.E.A.R. – Research (Commentaries, etc.)
Bottom Line – Focus on ONE thing
Questions
15. HOW TO ASK GOOD
QUESTIONS
Good questions should:
Create self-discovery
Emphasize the bottom line
Develop a desire to apply the bottom line
16. 3 KINDS OF QUESTION
1. The discovery question (what?)
• An open-ended, well-worded question introduction a new
topic and seeking to gather facts
• Example: From this passage, what does Jesus teach us about
love?
17. 3 KINDS OF QUESTION
1. The understanding question (why?)
• A more narrow, well-worded, follow-up question, seeking to
find the relevance and relationship with those facts.
• Example: Why would Jesus say there is more reward in loving
our enemies than our friends?
18. 3 KINDS OF QUESTION
1. The application question (how?)
• A direct, well-worded, final question challenging the
participants to make those relevant facts a reality in their lives.
• Example: Think of one hard to love person in your life right
now. How can you specifically show love to this person this
week?
• SPAM – Specific, Personal, Attainable, and Measurable
• Bring more questions than you think you’ll need (refuel)
