We’ve begun exploring the difference between science and religion and facts and beliefs in the discussion threads along with the Week 1 reflection paper on beliefs. This thread explores what spiritual growth means (need compelling definitions from those quality sources) and how are discussions fit. The images of rooms in a house or possible paths to take or a journey and our work in this thread deepens the central point of a religious quest as growing spiritually.
In week five the concept of biblical literalism is examined in regards to an informed, living Word of God foundation, which is not easy, nor short term, nor isolated is the mature, experienced, and prayerful interpretation of Sacred Scriptures. But this is one of several points that we should note and then study in reference to a mature faith and biblical studies. (This is a good point to include in the Week 3 Written Assignment!) (Biology is another point to relate to our work!) Just as we were born small, defenseless, incapable of speech and had the capacity for understanding but knew nothing, human development (each of us) needed to physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually needed to grow, deepen, and progress through stages that take time. See Kohlberg’s Model of Moral Development that might provide some insights in graphical form.

First Things First—Basic Concepts and Required Reading
Welcome to Lesson 2 of our Sociology of Religion course! Hopefully you’re getting all the time you need to fully process the concepts we’re reading about. In case you were curious:
A “concept” is a topic, subject, complex idea, etc. We read about the concepts of sociology, religion, and Rational Choice theory in the previous unit, for instance. In this unit, we are reading about the concepts of social theories, methods, epistemology, and so forth. Please start by reading the assigned text chapters. There are other readings in the remainder of the lesson that are recommended, but also optional. As I’ve previously noted, I generally err on giving you access to more information than you’ll probably need, rather than not enough. In any case, there are some additional key concepts to cover in this lesson, so let’s jump into it.
The Wide Wonderful World of Epistemology
In the sociology of religion, especially as we consider the importance of studying religion scientifically (for Assignment 2 purposes), ( it’s useful to understand a little of the discourse of
epistemology, or
how we know something is true, valid, or correct. To introduce this topic, let’s consider a classic poem by English poet John Godfrey Saxe, based on a Hindu parable:
“The Blind Men and the Elephant.” (See the link for both the poem and some insightful commentary.) First published in 1872, the poem recounts an analogy of six blind men who encounter an elephant. Not knowing the whole animal, each man goes to a part of it and says what he thinks the elephant is based on that. One finds a leg and says the elephant is a tree, and so forth. The elephant is also characterized as a fan (ear), wall (side), spear (tusk), rope (tail), and snake (trunk). Then the men argued about what the elephant really was, still never truly seeing or understanding the entire elephant itself. All of them had perceived a part of the elephant, but none of them had actually seen or comprehended the elephant’s nature, character, and totality. And so, as Saxe concludes:
“Each was partly in the right / And all were in the wrong!”
Saxe, as he states near the end, was directly commenting on religious squabbles. The point he was trying to make was that people try to pick and choose which religion they favor, perceiving a small part of the totality of Objective Truth, though nobody sees anything close to all of it. But we can apply his overall ideas to epistemology. We don’t necessarily see all of the whole picture when we try to know something or investigate a question that interests us, either. But we try to understand as much of the problem as we can—given the substantial risk .

I will be looking into some past religious artifacts such as the classical art pieces of Jesus, Moses, etc. I will explain what the artworks mean to me and I will also allow the audience to give their interpretation of what I am showing. I will be able to portray the theme of religion, beliefs, and time by comparing the different pieces.

I believe that as people grow up from birth, they do not have much power in the religion they would like to associate with. Parents have become the sole determinants of where our faith and religion lie and I would like to allow my audience to think through the choices that were made for them. I believe that this presentation will help my audience ponder and see whether they will still choose the religion and beliefs they grew up knowing. For instance, some of the audience members may have been brought up with the notion that there is only one God, a supernatural being, yet they probably doubt it and they would choose to be atheists in their adulthood.

I grew up in a very strict family and my parents forced me to go to church every other Sunday. I never liked church because I felt like I lived a fake life. Besides, I noticed that most church members were not staunch and some did some actions that were against the church teachings. However, my mother could not hear it and I only got the freedom to do as I chose after I got my ID. Typically, my religion was forced and I am so glad that I am in a better situation now although my past experiences make me question my life choices from time to time.

I chose this theme because I like exploring the past Roman culture and I also grew up as a Christian. I feel like this project provides a chance to explore the similarities between the two. Just like the languages that have the same roots, I think that religions are also tied and this research will help demonstrate this. Humanities is a means for people to be open-minded about different things such as cultures, religions, etc., and helps us comprehend what sets us apart from other people. Personally, taking this course has helped me identify different artifacts and it has given me different perspectives on things.

“Why is creating one universal definition of the notion of religion so difficult? Notice that I highlighted the verb “is” to show its location at the beginning of the sentence.
If you have issues with writing in English, I would highly recommend visiting the Writing Center. There you will find a wonderful group of individuals who are very good at helping students do well with their writing assignments so that they can earn the high grades that they may deserve.
Religion is the most difficult word to define it meaning primarily to various individuals from diverse communities. Every community views the word religion in a clear manner, making it believe the real meaning of the word. The term is usually utilized globally by various individuals asserting own meaning according to their belief. It is an argument that the religion power has to bind a person to a community, course of action in their daily life, culture ideology among other activities that the community undertakes believing that they are religious. Besides this argument, there are different individuals with their arguments that try to elaborate religion, making it difficult to understand the real meaning of the word. Religion is a word with no data or environment that tries to prove its purpose, making it is considered as the creation of many scholar’s study search as Rudolf Otto, James Martineau, Antony Wallace, and James Frazer among others. Mrs. Walsh remained critically ill and unstable for several weeks before her death. Her family was very anxious because of Mrs. Walsh’s unstable and deteriorating condition, and a family member was always with her 24 hours a day for the first few weeks.
The nurse became involved with this family while Mrs. Walsh was still in surgery, because family members were very anxious that the procedure was taking longer than it had the first time and made repeated calls to the critical care unit to ask about the patient. The nurse met with the family and offered to go into the operating room to talk with the cardiac surgeon to better inform the family of their mother’s status.
One of the helpful things the nurse did to assist this family was to establish a consistent group of nurses to work with Mrs. Walsh, so that family members could establish trust and feel more confident about the care their mother was receiving. This eventually enabled family members to leave the hospital for intervals to get some rest. The nurse related that this was a family whose members were affluent, educated, and well informed, and that they came in prepared with lists of questions. A consistent group of nurses who were familiar with Mrs. Walsh’s particular situation helped both family members and nurses to be more satisfied and less anxious. The family developed a close relationship with the three nurses who consistently cared for Mrs. Walsh and shared with them details about Mrs. Walsh and her life.
The nurse related that there was a tradition in this particular critical care unit not to involve family members in care. She broke that tradition when she responded to the son’s and the daughter’s helpless feelings by teaching them some simple things that they could do for their mother. They learned to give some basic care, such as bathing her. The nurse acknowledged that involving family members in direct patient care with a critically ill patient is complex and requires knowledge and sensitivity. She believes that a developmental process is involved when nurses learn to work with families.
She noted that after a nurse has lots of experience and feels very comfortable with highly technical skills, it becomes okay for family members to be in the room when care is provided. She pointed out that direct observation by anxious family members can be disconcerting to those who are insecure with their skills when family members ask things like, “Why are you doing this? Geely is aiming to be the first China carmaker to design and build satellites to support its autonomous driving programme, the latest step by founder Li Shufu in his bid to build an industry leader.
Geely, which owns Swedish brand Volvo Cars, Malaysia’s Proton, and a stake in Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler, will invest Rmb2.27bn ($325m) in a new development centre and factory to manufacture satellites this year, the company said yesterday.
The announcement makes Geely the first known Chinese carmaker with plans to build its own satellites. Mr Li’s move sparked comparisons in China media with Elon Musk, founder of electric carmaker Tesla and private space exploration company SpaceX.
Last month Geely drew comparisons with Volkswagen when Mr Li’s holding group announced plans to merge Geely Automobile and Volvo Cars, moving the company towards becoming the first global Chinese carmaker.
Che Jun, Communist party boss of China’s eastern Zhejiang province, where Geely is based, said that the complex would be built in Taizhou city and that construction had begun.
The centre will design, test and manufacture low-orbit communication satellites, purpose-built to improve geolocation of vehicles and to support their connected functions, Geely said.
Geely has been pouring money into new technologies from self-driving cars to flying taxis, spending Rmb20bn on research and development in the past year.
The investments are part of the group’s spend on global expansion, such as buying a $9bn stake in Daimler.

She noted that after a nurse has lots of experience and feels very comfortable with highly technical skills, it becomes okay for family members to be in the room when care is provided. Geely is aiming to be the first China carmaker to design and build satellites to support its autonomous driving programme, the latest step by founder Li Shufu in his bid to build an industry leader.
Geely, which owns Swedish brand Volvo Cars, Malaysia’s Proton, and a stake in Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler, will invest Rmb2.27bn ($325m) in a new development centre and factory to manufacture satellites this year, the company said yesterday.
The announcement makes Geely the first known Chinese carmaker with plans to build its own satellites. Mr Li’s move sparked comparisons in China media with Elon Musk, founder of electric carmaker Tesla and private space exploration company SpaceX.
Last month Geely drew comparisons with Volkswagen when Mr Li’s holding group announced plans to merge Geely Automobile and Volvo Cars, moving the company towards becoming the first global Chinese carmaker.
Che Jun, Communist party boss of China’s eastern Zhejiang province, where Geely is based, said that the complex would be built in Taizhou city and that construction had begun.
The centre will design, test and manufacture low-orbit communication satellites, purpose-built to improve geolocation of vehicles and to support their connected functions, Geely said.
Geely has been pouring money into new technologies from self-driving cars to flying taxis, spending Rmb20bn on research and development in the past year.
The investments are part of the group’s spend on global expansion, such as buying a $9bn stake in Daimler.

Nonprofit organizations are increasingly dependent on the involvement of Millennial
constituencies. Three studies investigated their motivations to support charity-linked
events: emotional identification with a cause, self-determination theory (SDT) regula-
tions, and context-related Facebook promotions. This article addresses the recent call to
expand SDT research from a simple analysis of autonomous versus controlled moti-
vation, to studying the effects of all the regulations in the SDT continuum, in particular,
the inclusion of the tripartite dimensions of intrinsic motivation and integrated moti-
vation. Results demonstrated that the greater the emotional identification with the
cause, the stronger was the tendency to support the charity-linked event. Also, the
results in these social media contexts revealed that specific intrinsic dimensions (e.g.,
experience stimulation) are motivators of online and offline support, as is the personal
value nature of integrated regulation. Whereas only autonomous motivational regula-
tions predicted support for the two events organized specifically a for charitable causes,
both autonomous and controlled regulations predicted support of a for-profit event
organized with a charitable cause as an adjunct. These findings can assist practitioners
in designing more effective social media communications in support of charity-linked
events.

Social media is a new domain offering excit-
ing opportunities to investigate research ques-
tions in social psychology (Greitemeyer, 2011;
Kende, Ujhelyi, Joinson, & Greitemeyer, 2015).
Our research examined motivation to support
charity-linked events of nonprofit organizations
that are currently faced with increased compe-
tition for resources and declining government
support (Paulin, Ferguson, Jost, & Fallu, 2014;
Reed, Aquino, & Levy, 2007; White & Peloza,
2009). Presently, they depend on an ageing set
of traditional supporters (Urbain, Gonzalez, &
Le Gall-Ely, 2013). However, their future suc-
cess lies in ensuring the sustainable involve-
ment of the Millennial generation (Fine, 2009),
distinguished from other generations by their
intense exposure at an early age to interactive
technology and social media (Bolton et al.,
2013).

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. religion and facts and beliefs in the discussion threads along
with the Week 1 reflection paper on beliefs. This thread
explores what spiritual growth means (need compelling
definitions from those quality sources) and how are discussions
fit. The images of rooms in a house or possible paths to take or
a journey and our work in this thread deepens the central point
of a religious quest as growing spiritually.
In week five the concept of biblical literalism is
examined in regards to an informed, living Word of God
foundation, which is not easy, nor short term, nor isolated is the
mature, experienced, and prayerful interpretation of Sacred
Scriptures. But this is one of several points that we should note
and then study in reference to a mature faith and biblical
studies. (This is a good point to include in the Week 3 Written
Assignment!) (Biology is another point to relate to our work!)
Just as we were born small, defenseless, incapable of speech
and had the capacity for understanding but knew nothing,
human development (each of us) needed to physically,
emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually needed to grow,
deepen, and progress through stages that take time. See

some insights in graphical form.

I believe God is Omnipotent. God demonstrates his
power over the world numerous times throughout the
Bible. Many stories, from Abraham delivering the Jewish
slaves from Egyptian rule, to destroying the world with the
flood. We don’t know God’s plan or methods, yet we still
try. In our attempts to understand and identify God we question
God’s power. If God is All Mighty, then why is there evil? We
must first understand where we are and the purpose of
earth. The great dragon was hurled down, that ancient serpent
called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He
was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him (Revelation
6. 12:9). The belief of some Christian faith is that earth is a
spiritual prison or a City of Refuge. Where the sinners of
heaven have been casted and sentenced to death. Through that
same power that banished us from Heaven is the only power that
can grant us forgiveness and allow our return home.
The Beneficent Being attribute of GOD. I hear people saying,
God is so good he blessed me with some material gain or good
fortune. Are we saying that those are what blessings are? What
does the Bible say? Jesus used the word “blessed” four times in
a row (nine times in a row in Matthew’s account in Chapter
5). In every case in Luke’s Gospel, the word is followed by an
adjective that describes people that most of us would consider
anything but blessed: the poor, the hungry, etc. We would
probably consider them cursed (Klein, 2018). With that in mind
the goodness of God isn’t how we as people perceive
good. God’s goodness comes from the opportunity to earn
blessings and be forgiven for our grievous sin. We all have that
opportunity, so God is always good.
God possess the attributes that have been described, just not by
secular comprehension. We must view spiritual issues with
spiritual eyes not worldly ones. If we do that, only then can we
begin to understand and see those attributes come true. When
we were children, we viewed situations from a child’s
perspective. I remember getting grounded for not following the
rules or doing my chores. At the time I was very upset and felt
like my parents were bad because the things I couldn’t do,
others could. As I grew up, I realized that my parents were
giving me tools to succeed in life and doing what was best for
me. Once my perspective changed, I understood that I had good
parents. In the same way if we change our perspective, we will
understand the attributes of God.

Science helps in our quest
Throughout our journey of growth and discovery, it is evident
that we encounter various rich sources of insights that influence
our approach to life and specifically in matters regarding
religion and science. Individually, we all have different
perceptions regarding life and its constituents but considering
the fact, that we all liv in a community full of other individuals,
it is evident that we can influence or gain influence from the
society (TED, 2006). Personally, one of the greatest influences
in my view of religion and science is the concept of the cynic or
cynicism. Notably, through cynicism, one believes that the
reason and purpose of life is to live in virtue and coincide with
the requirements of nature around us. Just the same way the
Ted talk highlighted on how the environment around their
family was, it was the leading factor to her belief about religion
and science.
Noteworthy, both religion and science are effective in providing
us the facts concerning the world but in other cases, they
oppose each other regarding some facts. In such cases, it will
then entirely depend on the individual’s background and how
their self-discovery journey dictated them to conduct
themselves. Furthermore, as a cynic, through reasoning of the
creatures, individuals are made able to gain happiness through
an intense training as well as living in accordance with the
natural order of life individually whereas declining every
conventional lust for sex, wealth, and fame (McLuhan,
2015). In doing so, we attain our morals in religion since our
lives are not dictated by material ownerships, but our individual
believes. Hence, it drives us to lead a simple life that is not
based on our possessions.

WEEK 3 DISCUSSION
The Problem of Evil
In our natural ways of living, it is evident that we all encounter
the problem of evil where the reaction we offer is entirely
dependent on our quest for what is best for our lives. Through
our religious quest, we are made possible to evaluate any evil
based on our ethical and moral perspectives on the type of evil
we are faced with. In such a case, the problem of evil together
with suffering amongst each of us in the world tends to pose a
very serious and complex inquiry that challenges our belief on
the existence of the perfect God (Nick Trakakis,
N.D.). Moreover, the main challenge projected is if God were
Omniscient, it means that He knows of all scenarios of the
existence of evil among us. The Omnipotence of God questions
about His mightiness and powerfulness when we are
encountered with evils that cause horrible experiences to us and
why He does not do something to eradicate all evil and
sufferings in us.
Notably, since God is termed as all perfect both morally and
ethically, it raises complexities on why He does allow evil to
prevail and not do a thing about it. It is all clear that the world
is filled up with evil and suffering and at the same time, God’s
existence is conveyed to us by different individuals and in
different ways. However, it is these facts regarding evil and
suffering among living creatures that seem to conflict with the
orthodox theists claim that a perfectly good God exists
(Howard-Snyder, 2016). As a result of these challenges posed
regarding whether God exists or not, it leads us to the conflict
of the problem of evil. Logically understanding this issue, we
9. cannot deny the existence of a supernatural being but the main
concern is the intention and perfectness of this being. I believe
in the existence of God and that all these evils faced are as a
result of the natural order of life.

The Search
Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to watch the NG series
here in Korea. The Old Testament accounts for the story of the
10 plagues of Egypt. These plagues were used to force the
Egyptian Pharaoh to release the Israelites. The Passover was a
ceremony to be conducted by the Israelites in the manner
described by God. This would serve as a sign for God’s people
and the plague of the First Born would not befall upon
them. This tradition has grown and is one of the most important
rituals for observant Jews. Is it just an Old Testament
practice? Jesus told his disciples “I have eagerly desired to eat
this Passover with you before I suffer” (Luke 22:15). The
Passover meal that Jesus desired is what we know today, as the
Last Supper. Jesus kept the Passover in the New Testament
times. Therefore, it isn’t just an Old Testament ritual.
I have never heard of the cult of Mithras before this
class. Mithras is a name for the sun god of the
10. Romans. Merriam-Webster defines a cult as a religion regarded
as unorthodox or spurious. Based off that definition in my
opinion most religions that we have today began a cult before it
became widely accepted. I remember when the Jehovah’s
Witnesses would come to our home as a child my parents
referred to them as a cult. Now it’s an accepted well-known
religion. I came across an article describing how to recognize a
cult. The following

method to identify cults. I believe in freedom of religion. We
have the right to believe what we want if we don’t hinder or
cause harm to others. I respect all religions who respect
