Waste Management Inc. is a US based company that is providing waste management and environmental services. The headquarters of the company is located in the First City Tower, Houston, Texas and it was founded in 1893. The area that the company is currently serving is North America where it has created a vast network to serve residential, commercial, industrial and municipal customers. Currently, it is serving more than 21 million customers in US, Canada and Puerto Rico only for environmental services. The network of Waste Management Inc. is comprised of 246 transfer stations, 146 recycling plants, 295 active landfill disposal locations, beneficial-use landfill gas projects, and around six independent power generation plants ("Residential Waste and Recycling Services | Waste Management", n.d.). This is among the largest waste management companies in United States and its truck fleet is considered as the largest of all the companies operating in waste industry, i.e. 26,000 trucks for collection and transfer of waste (2014). The 47 years old company has reported $14.49 billion in revenues in 2017 ("Annual Reports | Waste Management", 2017).
The business is offering waste management, recycling, and environmental services to residential and commercial customers. The company is offering waste collection, transfer, and disposing services to the residents and businesses of the North American region as well as they are also offering the recycling services to their customers. On March 20th in Towson, Maryland, the Maryland Association of CPAs hosted their annual Professional Issues Update / Town Hall for its business and industry members, More than one hundred CPAs responded to an interactive poll at MACPA’s recent town hall for Business & Industry members.
This group comprised of predominately CFOs, Controllers, management accountants with 23.6 years of experience.
Forty-four percent had the CGMA designation, six percent had the CITP designation, three percent had the IIA (Internal Audit) and three percent had the CMA designation. Forty-four percent had other designations as well. Eighty percent were in business, industry and non-profit areas of Maryland.
Only 6% identified themselves as future ready.
56% of them said they spend less than 50% on traditional accounting and financial reporting functions.
54% are optimistic about their business' economic outlook.
45% are optimistic about the Maryland economic outlook.
Only 35% were optimistic about the US economy citing health care, government debt, and uncertain regulatory climate as major issues.
The Top 5 Issues they identified are:

These questions were answered by over one hundred CPAs, CFOs, Controllers and management accountants using our interactive conference participation app by conferences.io.
On March 20th in Towson, Maryland, the Maryland Association of CPAs hosted their annual Professional Issues Update / Town Hall for its business and industry members, More than one hundred CPAs responded to an interactive poll at MACPA’s recent town hall for Business & Industry members.
This group comprised of predominately CFOs, Controllers, management accountants with 23.6 years of experience.
Forty-four percent had the CGMA designation, six percent had the CITP designation, three percent had the IIA (Internal Audit) and three percent had the CMA designation. Forty-four percent had other designations as well. Eighty percent were in business, industry and non-profit areas of Maryland.
Only 6% identified themselves as future ready.
56% of them said they spend less than 50% on traditional accounting and financial reporting functions.
54% are optimistic about their business' economic outlook.
45% are optimistic about the Maryland economic outlook.
Only 35% were optimistic about the US economy citing health care, government debt, and uncertain regulatory climate as major issues.
The Top 5 Issues they identified are:
1. Information Overload
2. Doing More with Less
3. Being Reactive vs. Proactive
4. Managing Change
5. Managing Technology

Sierra Club does not only deal with ecological protests; they organize outdoor activities like rock climbing, camping, and wilderness excursions for its members. Sierra Club’s vision states that they envision themselves being an inclusive, diverse, and knowledgeable movement that has achieved a sustainable environment making their achievement an inspiration to other communities (About the Sierra Club, n.d.). Its mission includes exploring and protecting the wild areas of the earth, promoting effective and responsible use of the environment and its resources, and educating people on protecting and restoring the natural environment (About the Sierra Club, n.d.).

- Memorable and easy to communicate: The vision should be concise yet vivid enough to easily remember and share with others. It should be simply stated in a way that resonates.
- Appropriate timeframe: The vision looks ahead, typically 5-10 years in the future. It provides a target without being so far in the future that it loses relevance.
- Consistent with core values: The envisioned future state aligns with and supports the organization's core values and mission.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

- Why is this important to you? What if this happen to your business can you recover? Yes, How? With a disaster recovery plan. What is a disaster recovery plan? It's like life insurance for your business and your data. Here are 4 Steps you need to take. Talk, Research, Remind, Remember.
- Did you know $6.7 million was lost because a company did not have Data Insurance. These came from breaches of a company’s data and they were not insured for it, so in the end this company went bankrupt can your company afford that kind of a loss the answer is No. What if it was not a Data breach, but a flood like the one in South Carolina & Tx. just a few weeks back? Or 911? Again Data Insurance, this insurance should be a part of the disaster recovery plan. TechInsurance (2009) You can protect your own Data too by getting an external hard drive and back up your Data. A company needs cyber insurance along with their Disaster recovery Plan. Because limit to downtime is a must for every business. They will have to have their computers, servers, software, Hardware and Network Back up and running ASAP. That’s is why you need to be prepared too just get the 4 steps in place.

Practice, Practice and Practice your plan make it 2nd nature teach your children what to do and how to do it. What if it’s not a tornado or flood at work? It could be a fire at home you still need a disaster plan put into place.
- 10 AM our little town was hit by a massive Tornado 1st you make sure your family is fine, then you start to check on your neighbors and you look around and see this. You are scared to death and don’t know what to do. Then you find out everyone made it but 1 person. Now what do you do? Our water tower took a big hit so no water to drink. Electric power lines are down poles snap like toothpick. You see destruction every where you turn. What to do crying is not the answer you need a plan. What can you do? I walked the Neighborhood with our watch group after I got information from The Red Cross and CERT Members.

- Talk to your Managers, ask are we prepared? Remind yourself Data is the backbone of the company. Remember 911, The resent floods, Snowstorms & Tornados. Get all your answers from www.ready.gov Learn what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. Most important Practice it learn it like you would a fire drill. Teach it to your co-workers. Tell your children how to get ready if they can’t reach you.
- You may need to survive on your own after an emergency. This means having your own food, water and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least 72 hours. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster but they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours or it might take days. Get you basic kit ready and make sure it’s easy to get to. Keep it handy if you can’t leave the building. Your safety is # 1 You can recovery from a disaster using this 4 step Plan.
- Finally what can you do to improve your plans for recovery. Talk, Research, Remind, Remember. And Practice what you have learned. A good plan is the one you have already in place. Don't wait till it's too late. Make a list and start it Today.
