Summary: Detailed analysis of HDI calculation and components involved in the calculation of HDI
are presented in the report.
The HDI of India at present and its development through several years is also discussed with
necessary tables and graphs. India s HDI in comparison to other countries is also presented.
The HDI ranking for different Indian states is presented and a comparative analysis of the HDI of
different states is done. The effect of good governance on HDI is also presented for different states

Conclusion:
Though india is achieving good economic growth in recent years it is not able to perform well in
HDI and it is even lagging behind many of the countries which are far behind India in respective of
their economic development.
This is due to the high inequalities in the state governmennts plans and schemes.as we have
observed good governance leads to an improved HDI,Indian government must has to implement
certain policies to enhance its HDI ranking.
Measures must be taken immediately as india in next few decades is going to have a hude
demographic dividend and if the government fails to provide basic things like education and health
then their will be no economic development and the demographic dividend will turn into
demographic liabilty.

Imperial Expansion in Global Asia 1400 to 1800
Imperial Expansion in Global Asia, 1400 to 1800
The early modern era, roughly around 1400 to 1800, was significantly marked by empire
expansions. Asian empires like Timur in Central Eurasia, the Ming and Qing, as well as the
Mughals, Ottomans, and Safavids expanded their territories through military conquest and
commercial penetration. As they established political control over much more vast tracts of land,
new commercial networks and culture interactions were also emerged. Also, it was a time of global
imperial expansion. Asia was connected to the broader global interacting patterns with the
increasing involvement of western Europeans.
The Ming (1368 1644) and later the Qing (1644 1911) dynasties of China expanded broadly across
central Asia into Mongolia, Turkestan, and Tibet. The Ming dynasty put a considerable emphasis
on oceanic exploration. A dramatic example of the Ming s prowess at the time can be seen in the
expansive voyages of Zheng He. He commanded the Ming dynasty s fleet of immense trading
vessels on expeditions ranging as far as Africa between 1405 and 1423, helping to extend Chinese
maritime and commercial influence throughout the regions bordering the Indian Ocean. His
Muslim faith and prestigious position in government reminds us of the ethnic and religious
diversity of the vast Chinese empire. Later in the Qing dynasty, China undertook a territory
expansion beyond its boundary to control vast, multicultural, multi climatic realm with centralizing

Staithes Short Story
Staithes was riding home from the mill. Two would be assassins hid in a stand of small trees
near the bridle path across open ground when Staithes horse was thirty feet from the hide. The
shooter aimed and missed taking a notch out of his horse s ear and startling it into a gallop. He
had no time to reload before his target was out of range and his was the only pistol. They made
themselves scarce. Staithes blood pressure went beyond anger and remained there long after he
had reached Outcote Hall. As he dismounted he said, So that s how they want to play the game!

Father Figures In All Quiet On The Western Front
In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, a group of boys are pressured into
joining the army during World War I. Each of the boys come from different places but while
fighting in the war, they learn to come together as one. The soldiers teach each other new
strategies and learn to work together when facing challenges. One by one, the boys die in
significant ways until no one is left. Kat gets injured in his leg but dies from a splinter in his head
because Remarque wants to show that a father figure benefits the other soldiers and that in order to
fight in a war, soldiers must prepare for the unexpected. Having a father figure in the war benefits
the other soldiers because it gives them someone to look up too. At... Show more content on

Kat injures himself in the leg but dies from a splinter in his head to show that something
unexpected is bound to happen. Injuries are inevitable when fighting in a war. During World War I
,
if a soldier is injured, there was a high chance that he/she would get the anaerobes that cause
tetanus and gangrene because there was a scarce amount of supplies and by the time a doctor
would try to heal the injury, it was possible that the soldier could already be dead or it would be
to late to do anything (Schlager and Lauer). Kat gets injured in the leg, but due to the fact that
they were in the middle of a storm with the hail of splinters [whipping] forth the child like cries
of the wounded , the chance of a splinter being caught in their skin was very possible (Remarque
286). Since Paul occupies himself with treating Kat s leg wound, he does not realize the splinter
in Kat s head. The splinter in Kat s head only becomes obvious when Paul [rubs Kat s] temples
with some tea and looks down at his hands to see that they were bloody (Remarque 290). Over
eight million men were killed throughout World War one with about 5,600 soldiers killed per day
(Pendergast, Slovey, and Pendergast 198 210), making the medical field aware that health
[became] a national concern (Schlager and Lauer). Preparing for the unexpected is essential during
war because anything can happen. One little hole from a splinter causes Kat to die, leaving Paul as

Advantages Of Pair Trading
Pair trading can be carried out in many methods of which distance trading and co integration models
are the most important methods.
Gatev et al. (2006) test a pairs trading strategy over 1962 to 2002 and provide valuable insights
into the development of the risk and return characteristics over time. It is perhaps the most cited
paper on pairs trading and uses distance method. They form pairs over a twelve month period
based on minimizing the squared deviations between normalized price series of the two securities.
They back test a simple trading algorithm with daily data in the period 1962 2002 using S P 500
constituents and find average annualised returns of up to 11% for portfolios of pairs. Although the
proposed strategy is profitable the authors note that returns have declined in recent years, possible
due to increased competition among hedge funds and/or a reduction in the importance of an
underlying common factor that drives the returns in a pairs trading strategy. A thorough analysis of
the risk characteristics shows that returns have a high risk adjusted alpha and an insignificant
exposure to sources of systematic risk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2010) back test a pairs trading algorithm using intraday data over a twelve month period in 2007,

eliminated. Engelberg et al. (2009) seek to explain the nature behind pairs trading profits, and find
that possibilities for profit are greatest soon after equilibrium divergence, and that the divergence is
strongly related to how information disperses through the stocks that form the pair. Idiosyncratic
liquidity shocks result in higher profitability than idiosyncratic news and when there is information
common to both legs of the pair, profit possibilities may arise when the information is more quickly

In A P, John Updike utilizes different characters to emphasize on the themes of power, mystery as
allurement, and choices and consequences. This narrative was written by Updike in 1960s. The
story is narrated by one of the character Sammy. He is the protagonist as well as the narrator of
the story. Updike, the writer utilizes his narrative to symbolize different themes i.e. generation
crevice, choices or decisions and their results. Generation crevice is the distinction of mentalities
between individuals of diverse eras or prompting an absence of comprehension. Updike wrote this
story to demonstrate the generation gap and individual choices. Individual choice is referring to
freedom of choice for instance: what an individual wants to wear, to say, to do and way of living etc.

Virginia Woolf Annotated Bibliography

Virginia Woolf (1882 1941) was an English writer, one of the foremost Modernists, and influential
member of the Bloomsbury intellectual group. My topic will cover the influence of war as both
historical events and intellectual concept on her life, particularly concentrating on her wartime
writings: Three Guineas, Between the Acts and the Voyage Out. Alternatively, I will look at the
influences of the Bloomsbury Group s philosophy on Virginia Woolfas a writer. Particularly, I will
look at her views on the topics of pacifism, feminism and sexuality as seen in her political novels:

understand critical questions about her works and her life. Lee book since it is written much
later then Bell s biography also looks at the evolution of scholarship on Woolf and her
influences. Anther one of most distinct features of the book is the authors analyzes of Woolf s
uneasy relationship between herself and the bloomsbury group. I wanted to read this book in

also wanted to use it as a bibliography source due to its different perspective of key events within

Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Violence
According to news.northwestern.edu, domestic violence occurs at least as frequently, and
likely even more so, between same sex couples compared to opposite sex couples. However, why
is this issue understudy? Why is the print media or digital media not showing or focusing on this
issue as much as hetersexual couples? As a country we have come a long way, since Obama
have passed the same sex marriage law, the LGBTQ commmunity has gone upwards as an

The Taliban
The Taliban are a part of history and people should be aware of who they are and what they do.
The Taliban has evolved over the years and unfortunately have grown stronger over the years.
They started off as a group of students and it is sad to know that these students who could have
started with a good future ended up being a part of a terrorist group. They think they are doing
right because they may read the Quran but they only focus on the words and passages they want to
hear and say to defend their terrorist group without reading the passage or verse fully and trying to
understand the real words of Allah. The Talibanhave been around for a long time and as a result the
Taliban havetaken over territory such as Afghanistan and many others. One of the territories the
Taliban has is Afghanistan and the government is seen as corrupted because they help the Taliban.

Phosphorylation Is The Formation Of A High Energy Bond...
Phosphorylation is the formation of a high energy bond between a phosphate group and a target
molecule in the presence of an enzyme. In a cellular environment, it is estimated that 1/10th to half
of the total proteins are phosphorylated to perform a specific function in the cell. The concept of
protein phosphorylationwas first introduced by Edmond Fischer and Edwin Krebs in the year 1955,
where they elucidated the necessity of ATP and a kinase (Known then as converting enzyme
).
Interestingly, a reaction which involved protein phosphatases (PP) was reported a decade earlier,
but it was not characterized as PP reaction because of the inability to detect inorganic phosphate as
a product.1
Since the above mentioned early discoveries, it has been well established in eukaryotic cells that
reversible phosphorylation of proteins, executed by kinases and PP, regulate major signal
transduction cascades. The highly specific signaling and reversible nature of phosphorylation seems
to suggest that there would be similar number of protein kinases and PP, but sequencing of human
genome has revealed that about 3% of the genome codes for kinases and PP, out of which serine
/threonine phosphatases (PSP) are 2 5 times fewer than serine/threonine kinases (PSK). This
irregularity in between PSK and PSP can be explained by the combinatorial formation of PSP
holoenzyme formed in between common catalytic and varying regulatory subunits.1
This short review focuses on one of the major PSP, known

Why Organisations Need to Change
Why organisations need to change
Change management is relevant as though the research finds that change is taking place at an ever
increasing pace, the evidence suggests that most change initiatives fail. For example, recent CIPD
research suggested that less than 60% of re organisations met their stated objectives which are
usually bottom line improvement. This is consistent with other published research.
The impact of failures to introduce effective change can also be high: loss of market position,
removal of senior management, loss of stakeholder credibility, loss of key employees.
Finally, one organisational response to change is that organisational forms are themselves evolving.
Therefore, the change management response will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Management need to be aware of these different criteria to ensure they respond appropriately.
Suggested reasons for resistance include: loss of control, shock of new, uncertainty, inconvenience,
threat to status, competence fears. It is important to try to diagnose the cause of employee
resistance as this will help determine the focus of effort in trying to reduce/remove the issue.
What can be done to make change management more effective?
From the issues raised in the section above, it can be seen that change is complex and there is not
a single solution. However, a number of key areas of focus emerge.
Effective leadership is a key enabler as it provides the vision and the rationale for change.
Different styles of leadership have been identified, for example coercive, directive, consultative
and collaborative. These different styles may each be appropriate depending on the type and scale
of change being undertaken. For example, when there is a large scale organisation wide change a
directive style has been identified as most effective.
Appropriate and timely training is frequently identified as key to effective change. Examples of
training requirements might include:
* Project and programme management skills to ensure change initiatives are completed both on
time and to budget.

Analysis Of Unwind By Neal Lassiter
Although the population of the world is upwards of seven billion people, society is still an
extremely unwelcoming place for people struggling with their lives. Important figures such as
Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., or Abraham Lincoln stood up for issues like slavery, peace, and
racism that no other person would care about. Even with the incredible advances they made in
humanity though, there are still an unbelievable amount of conflicts between races, gender, and
overall acceptance in today s world. People are idly standing by as the world crumbles away, but
some people such as social activists are trying to make a difference like Connor Lassiter. In
Unwind, by Neal Shusterman, the main protagonist, Connor Lassiter, was a disgrace to his
parents through his misbehaviour in school. He became an Unwind, who would be taken apart to
serve as replacement body parts along with many others his age. While many others were
accepting it as their fate, Connor fought back. He stood up to Unwinding himself and also brought
other Unwind s voices together to form a powerful stance. His will to simply exist empowered
other Unwinds and ultimately changed their society forever, saving thousands to Unwinds to come.
In the spur of the moment, Connor decides not to surrender to the police, but instead grabs a
hostage. Connor s whole life turns upside down as he becomes a criminal and goes on the run.

Sara Bareilles Gravity
Gravity written by Sara Bareilles over the years has had many different interpretations since its
release in 2004, but for the purpose of this analysis the lens being utilized will be one through
which the elements of a song about a toxic relationship between two people can better be
evaluated. Bareilles uses the raw emotion of her voice and backing of instrumentation to allow
listeners to better relate and identify with her work as all are taken into the story relating to her
first real heartbreak. This three minute and fifty two second ode to toxic love begins with a simple,
quiet piano lead in then supported by string instruments (violins, ect.). The simplicity of the score
highlights the significance of the lyrics and the ultimate problem... Show more content on

The dynamics of the instrumentation match the dynamics of Bareilles voice, never
overpowering her or the lyrics of the song. The majority of the song is sung in a gritty, and raw
mixed voice with employed head voice at the ends of phrases and the first chorus. This
manipulation of vocal timbre and register help the emotional intention of the song better connect
in the ears of the listeners. Starting out the vocalist has an almost raspy like quality voice to her
voice as she sets up the scene for her audience but as the piece progresses more of the grit and
raw emotion arise in the climb to the climax. The percussive quality of the bridge further drives
the understanding of how toxic the relationship was for the singer. Bareilles moves from a clear
mixed voice to a full chest voice or belt to match the intensity of the bridge provided by the
accompaniment. At two minutes and fifty three seconds Gravity climaxes on the word down which
is held for eight counts on C5 at an acapella vocal

Birth Tourism and China
Why would a city not want to promote tourism? Tourism helps attract foreign investments and
therefore contribute tremendously to the economy. In fact, tourism is one of the main sources of
income for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). According to a recent study by
market research firm Euromonitor, Hong Konghas been named the world s most desirable travel
destination for international visitors with a number of 23.8 million visitors. However, if that figure
is broken down by geographic zones, Chinese tourists account for 63.5%. Mainland visitors have
always been playing a huge role in tourism in Hong Kong and they are the ones Hong Kong citizens
feel resentful towards mainly because of birth tourism. Local residents have felt that the medical
system is already operating at its capacity. Demonstrations on streets are not uncommon with
citizens wanting the government to take action against such tourism, I believe that Hong Kong
government should still welcome Chinese tourists since Mainland visitors have been contributing
significantly to Hong Kong s inbound tourism, however the government should put a ban on birth
tourism.
Apart from being famous for its shopping and food paradise, Hong Kong is also widely known
as a former British colony. It was not until July 1, 1997 that Hong Kong was returned to and has
remained as a special administration region of the People s Republic of China. Even so, Hong Kong

The City And Parts Of The Soul
Another premise is how justice is a craft with a particular function. All conventional items that
human beings use have a purpose otherwise its useless. Even the most ridiculous products sold on
infomercials are designed for a specific purpose. Although products being sold on infomercials are
ridiculous for being invented with a purpose in mind, but do not function well and generally make
the user of the product look foolish. Like conventional items justicehas a function. However it is
important that a thing s function is the work that it alone can do, or can do better than anyone else
(I. 353a). Basically, Platois assuming that we, human beings are dependent on each other and
working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every
individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further
applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul.
In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation.
For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the
auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. Each class corresponds
with a virtue and depending on a person s virtue is where a person will end up. The virtues are
wisdom for the ruling, courage for the warriors and moderation for the working class. In addition,

Two Types Of Contraction
Types of contractions
Isometric: During isometric contractions, muscles stay in a static position and this helps
muscular endurance as you will be working on the muscles endurance on how long it will be
able to last whilst static. For example when you stop halfway through a press up or if you are
doing a plank, these are good examples as you have to stay in an isolated position. Also another
example of this would be dorsal raises in a static position, when you hold your head up and your
legs up when you are laid on your front. This type of muscle work is easy to undertake but it can
cause sharp increases in blood pressure as the blood flow is increased and it is also rapidly leads to
fatigue.
Concentric:

at a constant speed so therefore you would need it at a suitable weight to do these contractions
correctly. If you had it at a high weight you would get worn out and start struggling at the end of
the set of repetitions. An everyday example of isokinetic example would be doing your teeth as
you would be doing it at the same pace and contractions and shortenings would take

Artificial Selection Research Paper
Evolution is a real thing that happened and is still happening today, there is so much evidence to
prove it. We have the fossil record, we know how natural selection works and how and why it
happens, and we know how artificial selection works and that we use it all of the time today. There
is just too much evidence to call evolutionjust a theory.
The fossil record is the history of life, as documented by fossils. The fossil record can show us so
many things, from the history of how homosapiens evolved into what were are today to how
whales were once furry, four legged land animals. The fact that we share roughly 50 percent of
our DNA with a banana is pretty astounding, but if you were to follow our family tree back far
enough, you would find that every single one of us, human or not, share a common ancestor.
Yes, it is pretty hard to believe but it makes sense if you really think about it. If we have 98% of the

Have you ever wondered how we got different types of dogs or cats? Artificial selection! Around
27,000 40,000 years ago the hunter gatherers began to tame wolves to have as hunting companions.
The people would eventually begin to breed their wolves so that they would have certain traits like
hair length, color, size, sharpness of teeth, tail length, and just about everything in between. When
people realized that they could control how animals would look, they started experimenting to see
what all they could make. This is how artificial selection works. Humans discover that they can
change an animal s characteristics, they discover traits that make the animals more pleasing to

Sustainability In Marketing
The Relevance of Sustainability in Marketing Decision Making
Introduction
Sustainable marketing calls for socially and environmentally responsible actions that meet the
present needs of consumers and businesses while preserving and enhancing the ability of future
generations to meet their needs (Kotler amp; Armstrong 2012, p. 582). The aim of sustainable
marketing is to satisfy the customer s the needs and wants while also putting high emphasis on the
environment and the social issues and thus creating profits in a socially responible way. Mention

customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers ... Show

Walmart constantly initiates sustainability initiatives which postively affects the customer s
environmental behaviors, employees and its suppliers. It also promotes sustainablity to its
employees by initiating personal sustainability project (PSP) where employees are committed to
responsible acts in front of their coworkers like from quitting smoking to replacing their lighting
system at their house with energy saving bulbs. Because Walmart operates under very stringent
environmentally focused practices they also enforce many laws to its suppliers to examine the
carbon life cycle of their products and change the way they manufacture, package and transport the
goods. This strategy saves Walmort extra costs which in turn reduce costs on the poducts they sell
and which adversely can save customers money. This creates a win win scenario for both Walmart

process is about the design traffic (ESA). To design the traffic, traffic loading is the main
parameter to be known. Traffic loading contains four type of design such as seal design,
highway pavement design, airports design, ports and log handling yards. Seal design is using the
equivalent light vehicles, for examples to converts the heavy vehicles to equivalent light vehicles

converted to Equivalent Standard Axles (ESA) but ignore the light vehicles. Airports design only

rule only for converting the loads without using the ESA. The second process is a proposed
pavement model. The pavement model includes the ESA loading and the layers defined by E, v

Themes Explored in Purple Hibiscus
1) Five major issues explored in purple hibiscus are; domestic violence, oppression, religion,
education and love.
2a) Adichie uses a narrative point of view to explore the theme of domestic violence. The book is
narrated in the first person by a 15 year old who is directly affected by domestic violence. Because
of her young age she is quiet honest and this allows her to paint a great picture to the audience of
the brutal abuse that Eugene bestows upon his family. This is as a result of her sensitive, intelligent
and observant nature.

Kambili sees the sips of scorching tea from her father as a representation of his love, this love is
very painful. Amadi s love on the other hand is not the painful kind of love but instead a joyous one.

household. This setting is the only setting in the entire book where domestic violence is present.
Adichie uses a variety of things and rooms within this setting to bring out domestic violence some
examples are the figurines, Eugene and Beatrice s room and the bathroom.
4b) the entire setting of Nigeria brings out the theme of oppression especially political
oppression. All of Nigeria is suffering as a result of the political oppression, including Abba
Town, Enugu and Ifeoma s village. The road setting also shows political oppression, especially
when persons are stopped and searched by the military for no good reason.
4c) Religion is explored through setting, Adichie uses Aunty Ifeoma s home to teach Kambili things
about religion different that she had been taught be her father. It was in Aunty Ifeoma s house that
Kambili understood her grandfather s traditionalist religion and was able to make a link between
Catholicism and Traditionalist.

The Mission Movie Discussion Questions
The Mission is about the missionaries in South America in the 18th century, with the main
characters being Mendoza and Father Gabriel. Mendoza evolves from a slave trader to a
missionary partnered with Father Gabriel. Their goal is to have a society with the Guarani and not
have conflict with either the Portuguese or Spanish. There are also governors who find them
dangerous. Working as opponents, they make it a goal to shut down missionaries and capture or kill
the Guarani. In the end, they are successful and the movie documents the fall of the mission, and the
deaths of Mendezo and Father Gabriel.

The authors not only provided a longitudinal data that demonstrated safety of SCC DBS for patients
with MDD and BP, but also introduced DBS as an antidepressant intervention for patients with BP.
However, further changes and clarifications are needed for efficacy measurements and parameter
adjustments for changing the currents of stimulation and for reporting results. While this study has
potentially profound clinical implications, the authors should resubmit the study with changes
before being accepted in the publication. The inclusion and exclusion criteria for the screening
and preoperative evaluation phase were well defined as shown in Fig. 1. The authors defined
TRD patients as patients who were not adequately responding at least four antidepressant
interventions and scoring at least three on the Antidepressant Treatment History Form (Sackeim,
2001). This guideline to define TRD is comparable to other controlled trials in similar
experiments (i.e. DBS for patients with TRD) (Fava, 2003). Also, the authors accounted for
potential confounding variables by excluding all patients who showed contraindications for DBS
surgery and its active stimulation. The authors had a nice balance of patients between MDD (n

When performing the bench press, lowering the bar to your chest (down phase) this movement is
considered an eccentric contraction. When lifting the bar off your chest (up phase) this movement
is considered a concentric contraction. If we modify the exercise and we bring the weight down to

The Lego Cast Study is about how the toy company has been affected by the rapid and vast change

top rated toy for children and when that quickly changed Lego was not expecting it and
furthermore not prepared. The company began to lose money, by 2004, the company found itself

This allowed Lego to better serve customers by enhancing their overtaxed order management and

At first glance many would discount the idea that Lego deployed a strategy of hyper competition.
However, when we consider some of the characteristics of hyper competition, such as profit
maximization, emphasis on customer satisfaction, and the ability to dynamically adjust allocation
of organizational resources, we see that Lego did adopt a hypercompetitive strategy.
4. What advise would you give Knudstorp to keep Lego competitive, growing and relevant?
I think Knudstorp did an amazing job with coming into Lego and taking a failing business to a
successful one by building a block style work environment. He made standards which the
employees were to follow which allowed them more creative freedom and incentives to want to
improve upon the great quality of their products. One suggestion I would give Knudstorp would
be to spend more time focusing on his competition and to see what Lego could do to model what
has worked for their company and how it would fit in best with Lego. Mattel is Lego s biggest
competition in the market place. Mattel has advanced in the market place due to their new product
development effort. Toy developers are encouraged to think globally from

The Pros And Cons Of US Debt Spending
The U.S debt limit is a legislative mechanism to limit the amount of debt the United States can

The debt ceiling stops the U.S. from paying for expenditures after the limit has been reached. The
debt ceiling stems from the constitution in article one which governs all of congress allowing
congress to borrow money on the credit of the entire United States. According to the constitution
all spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives. The debt ceiling as we know

Hierarchical And Directory Based Database Essay
Homogenous database
It is a distributed database where each site shares a common software and the same copy of
database.
These sites connect with each other and fulfill their requirements accordingly.
For example if a user queries something which needs resources from multiple sites then
homogeneous databases are a perfect suite where the sites interconnect with each other. Thus the
sites share the same or identical software and are aware of each and every site.
Heterogeneous database
It is a distributed database where all sites have different databases and no identical software .
Each site is independent and can handle data by its own.
Distributed File system
Distributed file system organizes file and directory services of individual servers into a global
directory in such a way that remote data access is not location specific but is identical from any
client with the client being unaware of the location. Organization is hierarchical and directory based.
Since more than one client may access the same data simultaneously there should be a mechanism
to keep the data updated . Distributed file systems typically use file or database replication
(distributing copies of data on multiple servers) to protect against data access failures.
There are distributed file services offered to the client.
The file service is a specification of what the file system offers to the client . This service is

Corruption In The Oedipus Complex
Cormac McCarthy s novel exemplifies the nature of power and corruption in a post apocalyptic
setting. Throughout the entirety of the novel, readers are witnessed to a relationship between a
man and boy displaying their encounters in a corrupt dystopia. Following the death of his wife, the
man and his son embark on a journey through this setting in hopes of reaching the coast where they
would be isolated from cannibalism, corruption, and empowerment. These different acts can relate
to multiple readings of psychology and mythology. Readers are first captured by the corruption of
this dystopia immediately at the beginning of the novel. The author addresses the manbelieving as if
the month was October , stating that he has not kept a calendar for years (McCarthy 1). By
inferring that the month is October we can assure that the man and boy have been living in this
corrupt dystopia for an expanded time. As they continue on this journey, images of a psychological
comparison come to mind. Dr. Sigmund Freuds, The Oedipus Complex, is a theory of psychosexual
stages of development to describe a boy s feelings of desire for his mother and jealousy and anger
towards his father. This Oedipus Complex directly correlates to the boy s relationship to his father,
specifically when they encountered another man: this man was struck with lightning and was
struggling to survive. Instead of helping, the man decided to worry about their own survival and

Designing A 3d Modeling Software
Once you have a 3D model the next step is to prepare it in order to make it 3D printable.
Preparing a 3D model to be 3D printed is called slicing. Slicing is dividing a 3D model into
hundreds or thousands of horizontal layers. This is done with software. It can sometimes be done
within a 3D modeling software application. Certain 3D printers require a certain slicing tool. Once
the 3D modelTo begin 3D printingyou first have to make a virtual design of the object that you
want to create. The virtual design is a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file. A CAD file is created
using a 3D modelingapplication or with a 3D scanner. A 3D scanner is used to make a 3D digital
copy of an object.
3D scanners: Microsoft and Google have recently created hardware that can perform 3D scanning.
An example of this is Microsoft s Kinect. Soon digitizing real objects into 3D models will become
much easier. Smartphones may even have integrated 3D scanners.
3D modeling software: 3D modeling software comes in many forms. There s industrial grade
software that costs thousands of dollars a year, or there s a free open source software, like Blender.

on the brand and type of 3D printer you have. When a file is uploaded in a 3D printer, the object is

Jobema further argued that the change in the conveyance law was unforeseeable but the Court
rejected this submission as well by holding that in the business environment, every business

purchasers sunset date and not doing the same for Mr. Wu. Whereas the Court did not establish
that Jobema had acted in bad faith or unreasonably, it did conclude that the delay of the initial

of the same at the time of purchase from the subject developer and more importantly, it had

Abstract
In this paper, PVA AgNO3 films were prepared by casting method. Then irradiated with different
gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). UV visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope,
EDX and photoluminescence spectroscope were used to characterize the prepared films. UV
visible absorption spectra showed a peak at 200 nm for PVA. And a peak at 427 nm for the
surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles. This peak increases with gamma doses until
125 KGy, its decrease for front surface. And increase continuously with gamma doses on the
back surface. SEM images and EDX spectra showed that the silver appear on the front surface as
silver atoms, and with increasing the gamma doses is disappeared and then appear at the back
surface at the highest doses (125 KGy) as a nanorods.. While PL intensity decrease for front surface
and increase for back surface as the Оі doses is increased.

The Causes And Effects Of HIV And AIDS
HIV and AIDS are two diseases that have both been around for a while now but did not arrive in
the United States until the nineteen seventies. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus
that leads to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) if it is not treated within a certain
amount of time. Both diseases can be very harmful to the body, and they are not hard to catch. HIV
spreads from others through a sexual intercourse but is more likely to come from an unprotected
sexual intercourse. HIV is a disease that cannot leave the body, even after treatment. This disease
attacks our immune system, mainly our T Cells, which causes the immune system to not be able to
fight off infections. When the number of these cells decreases, it makes our bodies prone to other
infections. AIDSis the third and the most severe stage of HIV. If someone were to catch HIV and
AIDS, it could make a minor sickness deadly. There are three stages of HIV, and there are different
effects within each stage. The first stage is the Acute Primary Infection . Within the first, through
four weeks some will feel the symptoms of the flu or no symptoms at all. These symptoms include
having a fever, sore throat, body rash, swollen glands, headaches, stomachaches, joint aches and
pains, and muscle pains. These symptoms occur when the body is beginning to react to the virus.
The second stage of HIV is The Asymptomatic Stage. The person who is infected starts to feel better
within this stage. Without going

Reflective Essay On The Father Of God
As tears fell from my eyes and onto the light blue carpet, I heard words I never thought I would
hear. One Sunday about three years ago, our assistant pastor preached a message, and after that, he
announced that our pastor was stepping down. Because it was such a close knit church, we quickly
learned that our pastor had committed adultery with one of my best friends mother. My familywas
extremely upset and the whole church was distraught when we heard the news. I had no idea what
to think. This man, whom I trusted, had baptized me and answered any questions I had. My
family adored our pastor because he was such a great teacher of the Bible. I could not fathom how
my pastor, a man of God, could be capable of a sin like this. After church that day, my family went
out to eat. At the restaurant, my father mentioned that he wanted to try out a different church.
This idea my father posed to my family was so foreign to me. This church family was all I had
ever known since I was four years old. I continuously asked God: after eleven years, why did my

Arthur Ashe s Influence On African American
Before I begin to talk about Arthur Ashe, I feel that it would be appropriate to talk about what
was going on around the world at the time. One of the reasons why Arthur Ashe was famous was
because he was African American and in that time period, americans found themselves question
the ideals of the country. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that all men
are created equal , yet africans were segregated from everything; from schools to water fountains.
Africans were treated like second class citizens even though many of them have brought fame and
honor to the country. Many black athletes would go on to shock the world, including Jesse Owens
who would win four gold medals in the 1936 in Nazi Germany Olympics, and Jackie Robinson
who became the first major league african americanbaseball player. Among these famous players
was Arthur Robert Ashe Jr.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
was born on July 10th, 1943 in Richmond VA. His father was Arthur Ashe Sr. and his mother
was Mattie Cunningham Ashe. When Ashe was four years old his mother Mattie passed away
and Arthur was left with only his brother, Johnnie Ashe, and his father. Two year later, Arthur
Ashe played tennis for the first time. He like it and started taking lessons from Dr. Walter
Johnson and Ronald Charity. Arthur Ashe would go to win the Junior National Championship in
1960 and 1961. These wins attracted many colleges, and Arthur was offered a full scholarship
from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During this time he was selected to be
on the US Davis Cup team and for about 10 years he helped the US win in 1963, 1968, 1969. In
1966 Arthur graduated from UCLA with a degree in business. Immediately he joined the army and
was shipped to West Point where he rose to the rank of second lieutenant from

Differences Of Communicative Competence And Applied...
Communicative Competence and Applied Linguistics
Language teaching is a challenging task for many teachers and educators.
Teachers try to manipulate the different theories and methods while teaching any language to
achieve the best outcomes of learning. Applied linguistics is one of the most important fields that
focuses on the implementation of different methods and theories, detecting the popping problems
and analyzing theses problems to find the best solutions in for teachers. It is mainly the field of
study that identifies, investigates and offers solution to any language problems related to real life
situation. Since applied linguistics is related to real life problems, communicative competence is
also an important part in the fields of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As applied linguistic studies language in real life situation, it is important to focus on
communicative competence as a fundamental component in language learning and acquisition. In

language ability framework (Yule 1996:197). This indicates the relationship between linguistic and
communication. Communicative competence is also referred to as linguistic competence
according to Yule; and this shows that language is communication and communication is not
completed without using the appropriate and understandable language. Therefore, it can be said
that the main difference between the Communicative competence and the Linguistic is that the
linguistic competence belongs to the whole
Communicative Competence or language knowledge that the students or native learners have. As
Chomsky defined it Communicative competence is made up of four competence areas which are
linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic . The first one refers to knowing how to use the
grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of a language. Linguistic competence focuses on the terms of
using words. In another

The Lesson By Toni Bambara Analysis
If you live in America your life should be better, fuller and richer for everyone, but if you belong
in the working class or the poor class, this might still be impossible. You might be able to have a
job, a place to live, but you will not be able to have all the other resources the upper class has. For
example, time off from work, vacations, education, or even afford you own house, this might be the
biggest struggles for working families. This paper will examine how minorities in, The Lesson and
Volar deal with the difficult effects of socioeconomic class.
In Volar, Judith Cofer presents us with the image of the little girl dreaming about changing her
appearance. The little girl being part of a hispanic family and a working class, ... Show more content

In the field trip to Fifth Avenue toy store, Miss Moore tries to teach the kids a lesson about social
class difference, which seems as the kids should be aware of the difference between upper class
and their current working class. As the story goes we get a better understanding that the kids are
not aware of how different poor and rich people are, Thirty five dollars and the whole household
could visit Grandaddy Nelson in the country. Thirty five dollars would pay for the rent and the
piano bill too. Who are these people that spend that much for performing clowns and $1,000 for
toy sailboats? What kinda work they do and how they live and how come we ain t in on it?
Where we are is who we are, Miss Moore always pointing out (150). The kids experience how
different life is for kids who live in the upper social class. Also, they realize how kids in the
upper social class are able to ask their parents for expensive toys, in which for poor kids this
money can pay so many of their bills. Silvia and the kids realize the sense of inequality of poor
kids and rich kids, ann this bothers Silvia, possibly the kid group leader, to the point of madness,
where she wants to punch someone. Now, SIlvia understands that being poor is difficult and they
come up with life strategies to stretch their dollars bills, while the wealthy can spend hundreds of
dollars on

The Evolution of Management Thought
The Evolution of Management Thought
Through the practice of management and the continued development of commerce and wealth we
are transforming our lives. In Massachusetts (USA) in the 1850s the life expectancy of a male
would have been 37 years of age and a female 40: in 1929 it was 58 for a male and 61 for a female;
nowadays life expectancy would be in the region 70 80 years.
While appreciating the past success of management we would also recognize that today s
accelerating pace of change is putting pressure on our organizations to be at the forefront of
management thinking. If we want to maintain our standard of living our rate of change has to be
comparative to the rest of the world.
But our present day management thinking has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our legal system is based on this misconception.
Into this growing of industrial society comes another Scot Daniel McCallum as President of the
New York to Eire Railroad. In 1854 he was facing specific problems related to the size of his
organization and a workforce that was in the main uneducated. His workers were immigrant and
with an agricultural background and not used to a factory discipline imposed by management. In
this environment he determines sound management as being based on: * Good discipline *
Specific and detailed job descriptions * Frequent and accurate reporting of performance * Pay and
promotion based on merit * Clearly defined hierarchy of superiors and subordinates * Enforcement
of personal responsibility and accountability. * The search for and correction of errors
From this thinking he follows the classic hierarchical organization chart.
Charles Darwin s work on The Origin of the Species is published in 1859. Herbert Spencer (1820
1903) subsequently develops the theme of survival of the fittest in his Social Darwinism. Our
society accepts the essential nature of competition, survival of the fittest and adulation of winners.
Ivan Pavlov does experiments with dogs to develop classical conditioning. He pairs an artificial
stimulus with a natural one. He gives the dog a piece of meat while at the same time ringing a bell.

The Between Iran And The United States
Imagine growing up in chains, living a life of strict rules and harsh punishments, a life in which
fear was your closest companion. This is the basic concept explored by Marjane Satrapi in her
autobiographical graphic fiction Persepolis . Satrapi focuses on her own struggles growing up in
Iran during the Islamic Revolution and Irans war with Iraq. Both of these events help establish the
setting and create an intensely high cultural climate. Persepolis is centered on Iran s cultural
distinctions and offers a symbolic glimpse into American freedom. When compared, Iran and the
United Statesdiffer greatly in the establishment of religious, political, and social institutions.
The biggest contrast between Iran and the United States is the level of religious diversity
practiced within each nation. Iran s population is 99% Islamic and only 1% non Islamic (
Iranian Groups 1) . The United States shows greater diversity with its population being 70%
Christian, 23% Atheist, and 7% non Christian. ( America s Religious Landscape 3). Iran claims
that it offers religious freedom, yet those who choose to practice another faith are in danger of
being denied basic civil rights and liberties and can even be executed. Persepolis allows us to see
how the Islamic faith is unwavering within Iran. Every character both male and female are
walking the streets fully covered. The women are cloaked in long black drapes to completely
shield their bodies from head to toe. This is specifically an

International Hospitality Industry Has Been Affected By...
Introduction In the past few years, international hospitality industry has been affected by
globalisation, revolution of information technology, fragmentation of customer demand, and the
emergence of economic integration of supplier in the networks. Globalisation means a process to
reduce the barriers between one country to another (Brotherthon, 2003). Hence, it is a critical issue
in the industry where the essence of the product is international and the encounter with the
customer is intercultural. The hospitality industryhas often been called as people business
(Downling et al., 2008). Therefore, Human Resource Management(HRM) plays a crucial role in the
industry as it understands the human aspects on the organisation. HRM deals with people in the
organisation how to manage their behaviour and activities in order to increase the organisation s
profit. It has the function in the organisation to focus on recruiting the management and providing
directions for the people in the organisations. Moreover, it deals with issues related to people, such
as performance management, hiring, wellness, benefit, safety, compensation, training, and
communication (Hayes Ninemeler, 2009). HRM is one of the phenomenon which has property to
change under globalisation effect. It is both and academic theory and business practice. From the
HRM perspective, an international hospitality industry is a caricature, where in reality derived from
the local management structures,

  • 4. Imperial Expansion in Global Asia 1400 to 1800 Imperial Expansion in Global Asia, 1400 to 1800 The early modern era, roughly around 1400 to 1800, was significantly marked by empire expansions. Asian empires like Timur in Central Eurasia, the Ming and Qing, as well as the Mughals, Ottomans, and Safavids expanded their territories through military conquest and commercial penetration. As they established political control over much more vast tracts of land, new commercial networks and culture interactions were also emerged. Also, it was a time of global imperial expansion. Asia was connected to the broader global interacting patterns with the increasing involvement of western Europeans. The Ming (1368 1644) and later the Qing (1644 1911) dynasties of China expanded broadly across central Asia into Mongolia, Turkestan, and Tibet. The Ming dynasty put a considerable emphasis on oceanic exploration. A dramatic example of the Ming s prowess at the time can be seen in the expansive voyages of Zheng He. He commanded the Ming dynasty s fleet of immense trading vessels on expeditions ranging as far as Africa between 1405 and 1423, helping to extend Chinese maritime and commercial influence throughout the regions bordering the Indian Ocean. His Muslim faith and prestigious position in government reminds us of the ethnic and religious diversity of the vast Chinese empire. Later in the Qing dynasty, China undertook a territory expansion beyond its boundary to control vast, multicultural, multi climatic realm with centralizing state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During World War I , if a soldier is injured, there was a high chance that he/she would get the anaerobes that cause tetanus and gangrene because there was a scarce amount of supplies and by the time a doctor would try to heal the injury, it was possible that the soldier could already be dead or it would be to late to do anything (Schlager and Lauer). Since Paul occupies himself with treating Kat s leg wound, he does not realize the splinter in Kat s head. The splinter in Kat s head only becomes obvious when Paul [rubs Kat s] temples with some tea and looks down at his hands to see that they were bloody (Remarque 290). Over eight million men were killed throughout World War one with about 5,600 soldiers killed per day (Pendergast, Slovey, and Pendergast 198 210), making the medical field aware that health [became] a national concern (Schlager and Lauer). (2006) test a pairs trading strategy over 1962 to 2002 and provide valuable insights into the development of the risk and return characteristics over time. It is perhaps the most cited paper on pairs trading and uses distance method. They form pairs over a twelve month period based on minimizing the squared deviations between normalized price series of the two securities. They back test a simple trading algorithm with daily data in the period 1962 2002 using S P 500 constituents and find average annualised returns of up to 11% for portfolios of pairs. Although the proposed strategy is profitable the authors note that returns have declined in recent years, possible due to increased competition among hedge funds and/or a reduction in the importance of an underlying common factor that drives the returns in a pairs trading strategy. A thorough analysis of the risk characteristics shows that returns have a high risk adjusted alpha and an insignificant exposure to sources of systematic risk. ... • 14. Phosphorylation Is The Formation Of A High Energy Bond... Phosphorylation is the formation of a high energy bond between a phosphate group and a target molecule in the presence of an enzyme. In a cellular environment, it is estimated that 1/10th to half of the total proteins are phosphorylated to perform a specific function in the cell. The concept of protein phosphorylationwas first introduced by Edmond Fischer and Edwin Krebs in the year 1955, where they elucidated the necessity of ATP and a kinase (Known then as converting enzyme ). Interestingly, a reaction which involved protein phosphatases (PP) was reported a decade earlier, but it was not characterized as PP reaction because of the inability to detect inorganic phosphate as a product.1 Since the above mentioned early discoveries, it has been well established in eukaryotic cells that reversible phosphorylation of proteins, executed by kinases and PP, regulate major signal transduction cascades. The highly specific signaling and reversible nature of phosphorylation seems to suggest that there would be similar number of protein kinases and PP, but sequencing of human genome has revealed that about 3% of the genome codes for kinases and PP, out of which serine /threonine phosphatases (PSP) are 2 5 times fewer than serine/threonine kinases (PSK). This irregularity in between PSK and PSP can be explained by the combinatorial formation of PSP holoenzyme formed in between common catalytic and varying regulatory subunits.1 This short review focuses on one of the major PSP, known ... This is consistent with other published research. What can be done to make change management more effective? From the issues raised in the section above, it can be seen that change is complex and there is not a single solution. However, a number of key areas of focus emerge. Effective leadership is a key enabler as it provides the vision and the rationale for change. Different styles of leadership have been identified, for example coercive, directive, consultative and collaborative. These different styles may each be appropriate depending on the type and scale of change being undertaken. For example, when there is a large scale organisation wide change a directive style has been identified as most effective. Appropriate and timely training is frequently identified as key to effective change. Starting out the vocalist has an almost raspy like quality voice to her voice as she sets up the scene for her audience but as the piece progresses more of the grit and raw emotion arise in the climb to the climax. The authors defined TRD patients as patients who were not adequately responding at least four antidepressant interventions and scoring at least three on the Antidepressant Treatment History Form (Sackeim, 2001). This guideline to define TRD is comparable to other controlled trials in similar experiments (i.e. DBS for patients with TRD) (Fava, 2003). Also, the authors accounted for potential confounding variables by excluding all patients who showed contraindications for DBS surgery and its active stimulation. The authors had a nice balance of patients between MDD (n =10) and BP (n=7) prepared for SCC DBS surgery. However, the following revisions on parameter adjustments are recommended to improve the paper. All patients initially received 130 Hz, 91 Вµs pulse, and 4 mA (mA) current during the initial active ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perform ten resistance training exercises and describe which phase of the exercise is the eccentric, concentric and isometric phase of the movement. At which phase is the muscle the strongest? Why? When performing the bench press, lowering the bar to your chest (down phase) this movement is considered an eccentric contraction. When lifting the bar off your chest (up phase) this movement is considered a concentric contraction. If we modify the exercise and we bring the weight down to the chest and hold this position, this fixed position of the bar is considered an isometric contraction. What advise would you give Knudstorp to keep Lego competitive, growing and relevant? I think Knudstorp did an amazing job with coming into Lego and taking a failing business to a successful one by building a block style work environment. He made standards which the employees were to follow which allowed them more creative freedom and incentives to want to improve upon the great quality of their products. One suggestion I would give Knudstorp would be to spend more time focusing on his competition and to see what Lego could do to model what has worked for their company and how it would fit in best with Lego. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that leads to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) if it is not treated within a certain amount of time. Both diseases can be very harmful to the body, and they are not hard to catch. HIV spreads from others through a sexual intercourse but is more likely to come from an unprotected sexual intercourse. HIV is a disease that cannot leave the body, even after treatment. This disease attacks our immune system, mainly our T Cells, which causes the immune system to not be able to fight off infections. When the number of these cells decreases, it makes our bodies prone to other infections. AIDSis the third and the most severe stage of HIV. If someone were to catch HIV and AIDS, it could make a minor sickness deadly. There are three stages of HIV, and there are different effects within each stage. The first stage is the Acute Primary Infection . Within the first, through four weeks some will feel the symptoms of the flu or no symptoms at all. These symptoms include having a fever, sore throat, body rash, swollen glands, headaches, stomachaches, joint aches and pains, and muscle pains. My familywas extremely upset and the whole church was distraught when we heard the news. I had no idea what to think. This man, whom I trusted, had baptized me and answered any questions I had. This church family was all I had ever known since I was four years old. I continuously asked God: after eleven years, why did my family have to be uprooted. I could not understand how something like this could happen. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for the good of those who love God, but I did not understand how anything good could possibly come from my situation.
