Modern traffic engineering prioritizes the automobile. What does that mean for you? It means streets are expanded to allow for higher motorist speeds at the expense of people walking or riding a bicycle. Safe transportation should begin with the most vulnerable users -- pedestrians and bicyclists. When non-motorized traffic moves safely, everything else falls into place. This short presentation highlights some of the glaring problems with modernist traffic engineering. There are certainly exceptions to these rules. But tragically, in 2015, these are still the rules.
