2. Looking at my equilibrium to my sequence I noticed specific
conventions. Which normally occur in other opening sequences the
protagonist is introduced more or less straight away, but usually only
briefly, as the opening sequence also include things such as the location.
I didn’t challenge some of the conventions of a horror genre film for
example, as I also use a female victim, this is shown in my equilibrium as
the female victim is shown at the end. I also use a forest for my location
which is a convention for a horror film.

3. The genre of the film should also be portrayed in the
opening sequence through certain factors.Throughout
my opening sequence I tried to hint at a back story, as I
showed an old photo album with two parents and a child
on the photos. Doing this also hinted that the narrative
would be about a family. Including a back story is a
convention in an opening sequence as it tells the
audience about the characters.

4. During the rest of the opening sequence I also show
eerie shots which represents the mood which the
audience may feel.The colours I use through the whole
of the sequence were black and white, and the title of
the film in red, and the other titles showing who was in
the film etc. were in black. Black, white and red is used
in many other horror films.The title of the film is
intriguing and also hints at the narrative of the film.

5. When I was editing I developed the sound, I use sound
effects and music to make it seem creepy. And at the
end I do a voice over where I sound shocked and scared.
Doing this sets a mood/tone for the entire film which
emphasises the genre and theme of the film for the
audience.Giving the audience a suspenseful, surprising
ending encourages them to carry on watching the film.

6. Conclusion
Overall I think I have used a lot of different forms of
conventions seen in horror films in my opening
sequence. I didn’t challenge many conventions as this
was first film I made however in the future when I make
a film again I will try to challenge the conventions.
