  is involved and why young people are invited
• Be clear with expectation / commitment
• Promote what is in offer for them: viz
  Experience, Training, Rewards etc for their
  commitment

• Make sure there is information on who to
  contact for more details
• Have regular informal review sessions so that
  they can say what they enjoy share new ideas
• Try to accommodate changes where possible
  so young people feel challenged and continue
  to be motivated to stay involved

  follow through on actions as a result of young
  peoples information
• Listen and Respond & Thank them
• Be supportive and Friendly
• Keep young people involved and include them
  in conversations

• Allow new groups of young people time to get
  to know each other and support them to
  achieve something quickly. This will help them
  keep motivated and see that you are taking
  their involvement seriously

  availability of young people

  • 2. There are a no. of steps we need to take. A series of questions we need to ask ourselves as an organization. • How flexible is our volunteer program for youth? • What’s in it for them? • Do we provide a variety of opportunities to get youth involved? • Are we providing valuable skills a youth can carry with them?
  • 3. BENEFITS OF INVOLVING YOUTH • Fresh idea & enthusiasm • Honest feedback • Access to different networks • Increased diversity of team which can consider things from a different perspective
  • 4. BENEFITS OF INVOLVING YOUTH • Better allocation of resources – making sure services are targeted where they are really needed and not necessarily where adults think they are needed • We can provide real evidence of need and impact to funders
  • 5. BENEFITS TO YOUTH • A chance to shine in a new field • Work experience and chance to learn new skills • A perfect management institute • Better access to job market with good references
  • 6. BENEFITS TO YOUTH • Helping the community and a sense of belonging • Develope social skills • Breakdown barriers between generations • Young people who feel their voices are heard are more likely to respect others, be self aware & exercise social responsibility
  • 7. WAYS OF INVOLVING YOUTH • Project advise opinions • Awareness campaigns • Public Relations • Teams of Action for community projects • Event planning and execution
  • 8. WAYS OF INVOLVING YOUTH • Mentoring • Risk assessment • Surveys • Decision making : eg Management or committees • Fund raising
  • 9. HOW • Have a basic role description – details of what is involved and why young people are invited • Be clear with expectation / commitment • Promote what is in offer for them: viz Experience, Training, Rewards etc for their commitment
  • 10. HOW • Make sure there is information on who to contact for more details • Have regular informal review sessions so that they can say what they enjoy share new ideas • Try to accommodate changes where possible so young people feel challenged and continue to be motivated to stay involved
  • 11. IMPORTANT TIPS • Be prepared to Listen, make Changes and follow through on actions as a result of young peoples information • Listen and Respond & Thank them • Be supportive and Friendly • Keep young people involved and include them in conversations

IMPORTANT TIPS • Having Young people Involved, helps attract more young people to get involved • Allow new groups of young people time to get to know each other and support them to achieve something quickly. This will help them keep motivated and see that you are taking their involvement seriously
  • 13. IMPORTANT TIPS • Let young people put forward and develop their own ideas • Expect and Accept seasonal changes in availability of young people • Consistent and Appropriate Senior Support is Key
