2. A long time ago, people thought that being exposed to cold weather could result in a cold. Thankfully, our bodies aren’t that fragile. Nevertheless, during colder month, we stay inside more, making it easier to spread viruses from one person to another.
3. The most common cold virus is from the rhinovirus family. This virus plant itself and multiplies in the nasal cavity, causing inflammation, which results in runny noses and sneezing. These viruses are spread through the air and are very contagious.
4. Each time you cough or yawn without covering your mouth, lay your tissue around carelessly, or spirit, you run the risk of contaminating the people around you. Some countries, such as Japan, have very strict civil conduct laws: a person with a cold can’t go out in public without covering his or her nose and mouth with a surgical mask!
5. Even though we can’t change other people’s personal habits, we can still take certain precautions to build up our resistance to infection. Eating healthy food gives us the vitamins and energy necessary to protect our selves from viruses. Sleeping well is also helpful, because fatigue prevents us from properly defending our bodies from illness.
6. You should hesitate to open the windows of your room, classroom or anywhere else you might find yourself indoors. This way, you can be sure that the air keeps circulating!
