13. HOT500 Challenges Feedback
“…..was considered a great success for the College. I have
received very positive feedback from Executive and Senior
Management Team members (including the Principal).
They thought the event was well run and a great way of
getting the students engaged.
I shared details of the event with NACUE and they
confirmed that they have never seen staff engage with
student enterprise to the extent and in the way that staff
joined in at the challenge. It was a really great way to get
staff and students mixing and working together and to
have senior leadership teams fully engaged and supporting
student enterprise.
14. HOT500 Challenges Feedback
It was great for us to have the construction team (carpentry
& joinery in this case) on board as they have been hard to
fully engage with in terms of enterprise historically. It
proved a great success for the carpentry learners with those
who attended the session going back to class and being
very animated and lively, discussing what they had learnt
with their peers.
It stimulated debate about the risks of self employment
and how work/jobs should be priced when self employed.
We received positive feedback from the Head of
Construction who was pleased at the level of engagement
and debate amongst his learners.
15. HOT500 Challenges Feedback
It's not often that learners from different curriculum areas and at
different levels (we had levels 1 - 4 and students from business
studies, beauty, hairdressing, carpentry & joinery, engineering
and photography) get the opportunity to work together. It was
really encouraging to see learners at Levels 1 and 2 in particular
getting involved - enterprise is a great way to level the playing
field as it's a new way of thinking for everyone.
We did see students developing in confidence throughout the
session; delivering micro presentations and learning to share
ideas. As you noted, a group of carpentry students were not keen
on getting involved together and weren't sure about presenting
their ideas, but one student did form a business with another
student at the end.
16. HOT500 Challenges Feedback
The activity showed students that they don't just get a
qualification from the College, but that there is real and
meaningful support and encouragement for business ideas
and entrepreneurship which I think was reflected by the
interest shown in the pitching challenge by some students
at the end of the session and the number of students that
signed up for the Hot500.
The session was very well organised by yourself and Joel
and very thoroughly planned. I thought you worked really
well with the students and I wouldn't hesitate to
recommend you to others or work with you again on other
events.
