The document proposes redesigning hospital lobbies with the sun as a unifying symbol. It suggests circular lobbies centered around a reception area. The sun symbolizes concepts like healing, life, and enlightenment. It could help brand the hospitals and inspire hope in patients. Implementing this bold idea could make the organization pioneering and help spread its values and vision.

No matter how fast we construct buildings the time it takes from planning to use, means that the building is dated at the time it is handed over.
This time frame will vary according to the nature and circumstances of the contract and or construction.
In private healthcare it will average 24 months (2 years)
In public healthcare its longer 36 months – 60 months (5 years)
There is no value judgement simply a comment of the process, and regardless of cause or the actual time frame it is simply out of date by the time of handover.
This paper explores explores the notion that out of date hospitals ( crocodiles) are better than hospitals that are extinct (dodo).
A brief information about hospital services and design By: Heersh o.farajHerish Ofmi
Hospital engineering services, planning and design, Hospital must meet two basic fundamental needs:
Must meet the needs of the patient it is going to serve adequately.
It must be in a size and proportions which the owners or promoters will be able to build and operate
Human-Centered Hospital Design in an Era of Digital Diagnostics, Robotics and...NBBJDesign
From the advent of electronic medical records to personal health monitoring devices, technology is changing the look and feel of hospitals, and how care is practiced inside of them. But as more digital devices are integrated into care regimens, could we lose sight of the importance of human decision making and interaction? International healthcare architect Joan Saba investigates current trends shaping the industry and how hospital design can better enable patients and providers in their quest for health.
Organizational Structure and Design - A case for a mid-sized HospitalSarang Bhutada
As part of a course on Org. Structure, we worked with a mid-sized hospital - Malar Hospital (which is now owned by Fortis Healthcare) and modelled an organizational structure for them. It is quite a comprehensive analysis and it took us a month and series of consultations with the hospital to deliver this. Thanks again to everyone at Malar for co-operating with our project.

Synopsis
Stolen Focus (2022) begins with author Johann Hari experiencing a common problem: his attention span is diminishing. He can’t seem to focus on much outside of Twitter and online news. Over three years, Hari tries to identify the root causes of this problem. He uncovers a collective attention crisis that’s affecting the entire globe. From social media to the culture of productivity, Hari identifies the culprits behind our stolen focus – and wonders if, and how, we can claim it back.
Who is it for?
• Anyone who feels like they just can’t concentrate the way they used to
• Multitaskers with brimming to-do lists who still feel like they get little done
• Anyone scrolling through social media while they’re reading this!
What’s in it for me?
The tale of how we lost the ability to focus – and how we can get it back.
We’ve all been there. You sit down, ready for work, and you get a text. As you're texting back, a news alert appears – so you shift over to read what’s happening. But as you’re halfway through reading the headline, you get another ping: someone’s liked the photo that you posted last night. And after checking who it was, you realize they’ve also posted new photos . . . is that a new partner?! As you start swiping through the images, a Slack notification chimes. Wait, what were you doing again? Oh, right: work.
If you’re wondering what’s happened to your capacity for concentration, you’re not alone. Collectively, our attention spans seem to be dwindling at an alarming rate. And every year, there are more and more distractions and interruptions added to the pile.
Sadly, that’s not a coincidence. From Silicon Valley to the structure of the contemporary workplace, forces beyond our control are constantly working to deplete our ability to focus deeply and resist distraction.
But how did we get here? And is there any way to escape this dizzying attention spiral? These are the questions we’ll be covering in the blinks to Johann Hari’s Stolen Focus. So, set your devices to airplane mode, and try to give your full attention to these five blinks as we uncover the story of a crisis that’s reached a global scale.
you’ll learn
• how social media is actually designed to sap your focus;
• what 1950s animal experiments have to do with Instagram’s “like” button; and
• why spending less time at work might actually boost your productivity.
It’s not just you – everyone is struggling to focus.

Reimagining Reality: A Place for LGBTQ in the WorkplaceAlexei Orlov
Alexei Orlov believes the power of fair speech and balanced opinion is more crucial now than ever. It is important to use our imaginations better to create a new and more certain reality – that humans and kindness should always go together.
When you remember me, it means that you have carried something of who I am with you, that I have left some mark of who I am on who you are. It means that you can summon me back to your memory even though countless years and miles may stand between us. It means that if we meet again, you will know me. It means that even after I die, you can still see my face and remember my voice and speak to me in your heart, for as long as you remember me, I am never entirely lost. if you forget me, part of who I am will be gone from your memory.
How to (organically) build and move audiencesMehdi Reghai
The main objective of this lecture is to push the young audience to dive deep in how everyone can "build and move (organic) audiences" and why it's important for wannabe entrepreneurs, social activists and decision makers.
Perhaps the beautiful weather was the reason that I enjoyed myself so much on this walk, or maybe it was the fact that i had gone out to explore my neighborhood on my own. Something i hadn't done in a long time. And don't we feel better when we do the unexpected. For ourselves.
An analyst for NYP's Capital Asset Planning & Development Group, I compiled this presentation to share with senior leadership. The research is based on a a study done by the Institute for the Future while the conclusions of Hospital implications were my own. I hope you find this presentation useful as well as inspirational. Thanks for watching.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

3. OUR DILEMMA NYP LOBBIES WERE DESIGNED OVER A LONG TIME PERIOD ACROSS TWO CAMPUSES, WITH NO UNIFIED LOOK AS A RESULT PATIENTS & VISITORS COMING INTO OUR HOSPITALS HAVE NO IMMEDIATE WAY TO IDENTIFY THAT THEY ARE AT NEW YORK PRESBYTERIAN AS OPPOSED TO ANOTHER FACILITY LOBBIES ARE AN OPPORTUNITY (THAT WE ARE NOT UTILIZING) TO MAKE A LASTING POSITIVE IMPRESSION ON ALL WHO COME THROUGH WE NEED A CONCEPT THAT IS POWERFUL, UNIVERSAL, TIMELESS, CAN BE EASILY INCORPORATED INTO DIFFERENT BUILDING TYPES, AND FITS INTO OUR OVERALL VISION FOR THE PRESENT & FUTURE
4. RECENTLY, THIS IMAGE OF ASKLEPIUS, GREEK GOD OF HEALING POINTING EASTWARD, WAS BROUGHT INTO MY OFFICE: What might he be pointing toward? Could it be… ?
5. EUREKA MOMENT: Wait, the sun spans our two campuses as it travels across the sky… COULD THE SUN BE THE UNIFYING ELEMENT FOR NYPH …
7. LONGTIME SYMBOL OF POWER, LIFE, AND ENLIGHTENMENT ACROSS ALL CULTURES, THE SUN IS EVER-PRESENT, UNIVERSAL, ETERNAL … … AND EASILY RECOGNIZED AS SUCH BY THE DIVERSE MULTI-CULTURAL COMMUNITY WE SERVE
8. THE SUN IS ALSO AN ONGOING SOURCE FOR HEALING AND RELAXATION … … THAT BEFITS OUR PHILOSOPHY OF RECUPERATIVE AS WELL AS PREVENTIVE CARE
9. FURTHERMORE, IT SPANS EAST TO WEST THROUGHOUT THE DAY … … MUCH LIKE OUR TWO CITY CAMPUSES, WHO BEAR WITNESS TO THE SUN’S MOST DRAMATIC MOMENTS AT SUNRISE AND SUNSET
10. IN TERMS OF GEOMETRY THE SUN IS DYNAMICALLY SYMMETRICAL IN A WAY THAT EASILY LENDS ITSELF TO ARCHITECTURE & INTERIOR DESIGN …
11. CIRCULAR LOBBIES CAN BE UTILIZED FOR THEIR SENSE OF OPENESS AND EASY-TO-FIND CENTRAL RECEPTION AREA AS FOLLOWS… RECEPTION AREA ENTRY/EXIT HALLWAYS ELEVATORS WAITING AREA/RETAIL
15. RESOURCES LEADERSHIP NYP-WC NYP-CU WESTCHESTER MSCHoNY NYP-ALLEN Each of our facilities is a representative of our highest standards to the community it touches & serves
16. RESOURCES LEADERSHIP Our VISION unifies and inspires ALL our efforts NYP-WC NYP-CU WESTCHESTER MSCHoNY NYP-ALLEN VISION THE CORE
17. UNDERLYING MAGIC ALONG WITH THE MANY AFOREMENTIONED ASSOCIATIONS, THE SUN’S SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS WILL OFFER A DIRECT AND SUBLIMINAL SENSE OF HOPE TO OUR PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES DURING THEIR TIME OF HARDSHIP THEN OF COURSE, ARE THE FUND-RAISING OPPORTUNITIES …
18. MARKETING & SALES AS RICH AS IT IS WITH METAPHOR, WE WILL BE ABLE TO TIE THE SUN DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, WITH WORDS AND IMAGES, INTO EVERY MESSAGE WE PUT OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY IF DONE WELL, THE PUBLIC WILL LEARN TO ASSOCIATE NYP WITH ALL THE WONDERFUL AFOREMENTIONED QUALITIES OF THE SUN IN RELATION TO HEALING, POWER, ENLIGHTENMENT, BEGINNINGS, AND LIFE AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING … ALL THE CARE WE PROVIDE AND THE WAY WE PROVIDE IT CAN BE COMMUNICATED VIA METAPHOR THAT IS BASED ON THE SUN AND ITS AFFECT ON LIVING THINGS
19. COMPETITION NO OTHER HOSPITAL HAS VENTURED TO EMPLOY ONE POWERFUL SYMBOL TO REPRESENT ITS VISION AND OPERATIONS AS THOROUGHLY AND APPROPRIATELY AS THIS, AND BY DOING IT FIRST WE WILL SHOW THAT WE CAN BE FIRST IN OUR FIELD BY BEING THE FIRST TO TAKE INITIATIVE IN THIS WAY, WE WILL ALSO ESTABLISH OURSELVES AS A GROUND-BREAKING INSTITUTION WITH COURAGE TO REINVENT ITSELF MUCH LIKE NATURE DOES WITH CHANGING TIMES & CONDITIONS … A REPUTATION WHICH WILL GENERATE MUCH PUBLICITY AND SERVE US WELL AS FUTURE TRENDS IN HEALTHCARE SHIFT WITH THE TIMES
20. TEAM THE SUN AS SYMBOL WILL UNIFY ALL FIVE CAMPUSES AND OUR MUTUAL VISION FOR OUR FUTURE: “ LIKE THE SUN’S RAYS WE ARE ALL MESSENGERS OF OUR CORE VALUES EXTENDING OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY, AND LIKE THE SUN’S RAYS WE WILL BRING WARM CARE AND HEALING INTO THE LIVES OF ALL THOSE WHO COME IN CONTACT WITH US”
21. ARE YOU READY? IT IS SAID THAT TO HAVE GREAT IDEAS IS TO BE MISUNDERSTOOD, BUT THERE IS NOTHING TO MISUNDERSTAND ABOUT THE SUN AND HOW WELL IT FITS AN ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO BRINGING AND SUSTAINING LIFE SUCH AS NYPH DOES HOWEVER WE HAVE TO ACT DECIDEDLY SOONER RATHER THAN LATER BECAUSE IT IS ALSO SAID THAT GREATNESS IS BORN THROUGH BOLD ACTION
22. ARE YOU READY? Editor's Notes
We cannot begin re-designing the lobbies until we have figured a unifying overall theme for the hospital
Additional Ideas: Well defined wide entryways with no deviating corridors will provide clear access to reception for all visitors from which they will be properly directed by staff; Ideally, the lobby should have a skylight for maximum effectiveness and consistency with theme. A hollow core with natural light access for all floors will enhance the experience of both visitors and staff. Retail is an important component of income diversification for the hospital as well as the visitors’ waiting experience; stores such as Barnes & Noble, Wholefoods, Sephora, & Starbucks would do very well when adjacent to the waiting area. Instead of TV’s blaring in the waiting rooms, perhaps some classical music & water-features would serve everyone better.
This will be particularly effective as we apply themes of warm colors & natural light to all applicable interiors
The sun is a major component to the origin of life on earth, and we will utilize this metaphor as we make advancements in research and new treatment methods. “Ray of Hope” can be the name of our R&D sector & its associated publication, for example. Speaking in these terms may further increase our effectiveness in fundraising.
Being associated with a vital natural entity like the sun will help the hospital be poised in advance for the shift from oil and synthetic based living to more natural and organic sources of energy and healing.
