Editor's Notes

  1. This is a moodboard we created to show the interests of our target audience.
  2. We would target 15 to 25 year olds more as our horror trailer is based around teenagers, furthermore our focus group specified that they would rate similar trailers 15 and 18 if it was more gory, however as ours won’t be gory we’ve gone for 15. We will use a mixture of boys and girls in our trailer so therefore it is more suitable for everyone. We have not targeted a specific race or nationality in order to widen our audience. We would target these socio-economic groups as they have low to middle spending power, for example students and retail workers. Our target audience would most likely have a keen interest in horror films particularly; paranormal/supernatural ones, go to the cinema frequently, enjoy socialising with their friends this is important as our trailer will be based around a group of friends , going to theme parks in particular on nights such as fright night and who enjoy ghost stories. By having a target audience who are interested in using social networking sites it makes our product easily marketable.
  3. We have chosen to use this building for our trailer as it is easily accessible and we believe it fits with our trailer ideas. The size of the building will allow us to portray it as a powerful and dominating place. We have also chosen to use a wooded area in our trailer as this is quite conventional of horror’s and also portrays a sense of isolation. The image in the lower left corner is the area we will most likely use as it is again the most accessible.
  4. House of Horror is a licensing division of New Line Cinema which has created the successful Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13thand the Texas Chainsaw massacre film series. This is who we are planning to distribute our film with.
  5. A Nightmare on Elm Street grossed $1,271,000 in its opening weekend in the U.S and was an immediate commercial success. They have also produced the Oscar Award-winning The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, which generated a combined worldwide box office of almost $3 billion.
  6. In 2008 New Line Cinema merged with its parent company Warner Bros. President Alan Horn stated the company will make 4-7 films per year of no particular genre, but we hope to generate for them another successful horror. We hope to produce a trailer for a film that can achieve the samecommercial success and popularity as previous New line Cinema and Warner Bros films.
  7. Our trailer is based around the posession of a character. We haven’t yet chosen a name for our film, though we have some ideas. At the end of our pitch, we would like to hear your feedback on which you prefer.
  8. We based our ideas for our trailer around films such as; Paranormal Activity. From the focus group we discovered that the paranormal activity trailer was effective because “it seemed more jumpy”. Therefore we tried to add elements like this to our storyboard. We also slightly based our trailer around sinister as in this film the protagonist moves into a new house where he discovers a box of home movies which depict the previous families who have lived there, as well as their murders. He then finds out that the murders all have ties to a supernatural entity and his family could be next.
  9. When we asked our focus group how they like a trailer to make them feel, they said; quote and include; quote. Therefore we will make our trailer quite jumpy and add a sense of enigma. They also said that they enjoy watching horror films based on true stories as; quote. Based on what we learnt from our focus group we will try to create a trailer with the effect of a handheld camera because the majority of people said they preferred this.
  10. Furthermore, when creating the storyboard for our trailer, we put a lot of thought into what non-diegetic sound we could include as our focus group thought this to be the most important part of a trailer as; quote. We also chose to not show what possesses the character as; “it leaves a sense of mystery.”
  11. These are the 4 names we came up with for our film. As the film name is quite important we have decided to ask a range of people which they prefer and why.
