Welcome to the third annual Hoopsfix All-
Star Classic!
Doesn’t time fly? It’s incredible to me that
we are three events deep already, and years
have passed since I first flirted with the idea of
doing an all-star showcase.
The Hoopsfix All-Star Classic is a one-day
showcase of British basketball talent and
culture, aiming to recognise and celebrate
some of the country’s best players who
spend so much of their time receiving little
recognition of their achievements in their own
country.
Thank you so much for taking the time out
of your weekend to come and support this
event and everything we’re trying to do with
Hoopsfix and British basketball – ticket sales
account for a large portion of the money that
allows us to make this happen!
The rest of the money & resources that allow
today to happen come from our valued
partners; Molten, 2tall.com, Sportserve Ltd,
Bigfoot Basketball, 5or6, Red Bull, Let Me Play,
Always Ballin’, Basketball Megastore, Custom
College Recruiting and Wilkie TV.
As I say every year, it takes a special kind of
company to be willing to invest in basketball
in the UK, and all of the above partners
have proven their support in the growth of
basketball here – please, if you get the chance
in the future, use their services wherever
possible to show it was a worthwhile
investment!
We’re incredibly proud of the level of players
we have taking to the floor this afternoon
– a number of which have already signed
scholarships to head to the US next season,
and others who have flown back home to suit
up with their peers. I sincerely hope you enjoy
the day.
It’s an exciting time for British basketball, with
the official formation of the British Basketball
Federation and widespread changes pending;
we’re proud to play our part in helping to try
and make a difference in the sport.
Be sure to use the hashtag #HASC16 when
talking about the day on social media, and
follow Hoopsfix on all our social media
accounts for real time updates with photos and
videos from the event.
Enjoy your day and don’t hesitate to reach out
if you ever need anything,
Sam Neter

Founded in 2014, and officially incorporated as
a Community Interest Company in 2016, the
Hoopsfix Foundation is the not-for-profit arm of
British basketball website, Hoopsfix.com.
Left reeling after a non-existent legacy from
the 2012 Olympics, Hoopsfix launched the
foundation with the intention of ensuring
basketball has some support to reach its
potential across the home nations.
A not-for-profit, its sole mission is to grow and
raise the profile of basketball in the United
Kingdom, through a focus on projects that have
a long term, sustainable impact.
Though the work over the past two years has
focused around the Classic, we are hoping to
release our first whitepapers later this year.
Any profits from the Hoopsfix All Star Classic go
back into the Foundation to fund future events
and projects.

Karl Brown
Team White Head Coach
Another British basketball legend, Brown is
the only British player to make an NCAA
Final Four, with Georgia Tech in 1990.
Brown founded the Leicester Warriors in
2004, where he has since guided them to
Division 1 promotion where he remains
their Head Coach.
An assistant to Bucknall with the England
Under-18 men during the years of their
promotion to Division A and best ever
finish, before taking the Head Coach
role himself, he was reunited with Steve
Bucknall on the England U18 coaching
staff this season, as they will look to get the
squad back to Division A.
Steve Bucknall
Team Black Head Coach
One of the great British basketball players
of all time, Bucknall hung up the boots in
2006 to switch to the sidelines.
The switch didn’t stop the former LA
Laker from continuing to amass accolades.
Internationally, Bucknall led the England
Under-18s to their first ever promotion to
Division A, including the team’s best ever
finish in 2013 with ninth place including a
huge win over Spain. Domestically, he also
won an Under-18 National Title in 2011
with Lewisham Thunder – the club he set
up in 2008.
After a year hiatus, Bucknall returned to
take the reigns of the England Under-18
men this season.

GB U20s
24
British Basketball have named an initial
22-man squad that features a number of
Hoopsfix All Star Classic players, as they begin
preparations for this summer’s Division B
European Championships in Greece.
Four of the 22 players chosen in the squad will
take to the floor in today’s Under-19 game with
Andre Arissol, Kyle Carey, Moses Byekwaso
and Shaquille Walters all eager to impress.
Arissol was an EABL Championship winner
with Charnwood this season, while Byekwaso
was the Final MVP in helping Preston’s win
the inaugural ABL Championship.
Meanwhile, Carey – last year’s HASC
Under-19 MVP - and Walters were EABL
Players of the Year for their respective
conferences and go head-to-head in Brixton in
a highly anticipated match-up.
Bristol Flyers and GB U20 Head Coach
Andreas Kapoulas will be able to keep a close
eye on the prospects as he takes the reigns of
Team White with one of his assistants, Josh
Merrington, leading the opposing Team Black.
There are also several other players in the
squad that have featured in previous HASC
editions with eight players that competed in
the 2015 Under-19 game called up.
Sedale Hanson-Young, Liam Carpenter,
Jules Dang Akodo, Earl Russell and Dwayne
Lautier-Ogunleye suited up for Team Black in
their 85-71 win over a Team White side that
included Sam Newman, Josh Steel and Deane
Williams.
“I’m really look forward to camp and working
with the players,” Kapoulas said.
“We have a talented group and competition
for all positions will be very tight. This is really
pleasing to see and it’s great for the national
team programme.
“Camp is always very intense and we need
to make the most of our time in preparation.
It’s tough to get invited and then once you
are in there you are fighting for one of the
spots, its a very competitive high performance
environment.
“We want to return to Division A and it
will not be an easy task especially with the
high quality of the competition this year in
particular with 7 teams gone down from Div A
last summer. For now it’s important to focus
on the process, make sure we get better every
day in our preparation and be in the best shape
possible for the European championships.”
Half of the 22-man squad played in the States
last season including German-born Malik
Eichler, who is a new face to the National
Teams set-up.
Kapoulas’ side will play in Group C alongside
the Netherlands, Albania, Ireland, Kosovo and
tournament hosts, Greece.
GB will hold a training camp at the University
of Essex before whittling their squad down to
12 for the European Championships, which
run from 15-24 July.
Great Britain Under-20s will be looking to get
straight back to Division A this summer following
relegation in Italy last year.

Moses Byekwaso

The BBF released their vision and strategy
document for the sport 'Transforming
Basketball in Britain Together' in May, as they
put forward their plans for the next 12 years.
The three GB home qualifiers - against
Macedonia on 3 September, Luxembourg on
7 September and Hungary on 10 September -
will all take place at the Copper Box in London
and be the first games to take place since the
launch of the vision.
Who will suit up remains to be seen, but with
the announcement of a Festival of Basketball,
to coincide with the games, the BBF are doing
all they can to ensure they start the right way.
“The time is right to be taking on the challenge
of transforming basketball in Britain with the
coming together of the three home nations and
in the context of the new DCMS led strategy
for Active Nations,” said BBF Chairman, Nick
Humby.
After qualifying for three consecutive
EuroBasket Finals from 2009-13, GB missed out
on last year’s major tournament and will be
keen to avoid a repeated failure.
Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach, Joe Prunty,
returns for another summer at the helm of the
GB Senior Men’s Team with the aim of helping
his side re-join Europe’s elite at EuroBasket
2017 – to be held across four cities in Romania,
Finland, Israel and Turkey.
One of the main aims for the BBF is to develop
successful GB teams and August/September’s
qualifiers present an immediate opportunity
to set the bar of playing at the top level in
international basketball.
The British Basketball Federation will be using this
September’s EuroBasket 2017 qualifiers as a symbol
of new beginnings, with the new body officially
taking FIBA Membership in October 2016.

Hoopsfix All-Star Classic Returns for Third Year

  • 1.
  • 3. Welcome to the third annual Hoopsfix All- Star Classic! Doesn’t time fly? It’s incredible to me that we are three events deep already, and years have passed since I first flirted with the idea of doing an all-star showcase. The Hoopsfix All-Star Classic is a one-day showcase of British basketball talent and culture, aiming to recognise and celebrate some of the country’s best players who spend so much of their time receiving little recognition of their achievements in their own country. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your weekend to come and support this event and everything we’re trying to do with Hoopsfix and British basketball – ticket sales account for a large portion of the money that allows us to make this happen! The rest of the money & resources that allow today to happen come from our valued partners; Molten, 2tall.com, Sportserve Ltd, Bigfoot Basketball, 5or6, Red Bull, Let Me Play, Always Ballin’, Basketball Megastore, Custom College Recruiting and Wilkie TV. As I say every year, it takes a special kind of company to be willing to invest in basketball in the UK, and all of the above partners have proven their support in the growth of basketball here – please, if you get the chance in the future, use their services wherever possible to show it was a worthwhile investment! We’re incredibly proud of the level of players we have taking to the floor this afternoon – a number of which have already signed scholarships to head to the US next season, and others who have flown back home to suit up with their peers. I sincerely hope you enjoy the day. It’s an exciting time for British basketball, with the official formation of the British Basketball Federation and widespread changes pending; we’re proud to play our part in helping to try and make a difference in the sport. Be sure to use the hashtag #HASC16 when talking about the day on social media, and follow Hoopsfix on all our social media accounts for real time updates with photos and videos from the event. Enjoy your day and don’t hesitate to reach out if you ever need anything, Sam Neter Owner, Hoopsfix Welcome Brixton Rec - Sunday 5th June 2016 3

  • 5. Founded in 2014, and officially incorporated as a Community Interest Company in 2016, the Hoopsfix Foundation is the not-for-profit arm of British basketball website, Hoopsfix.com. Left reeling after a non-existent legacy from the 2012 Olympics, Hoopsfix launched the foundation with the intention of ensuring basketball has some support to reach its potential across the home nations. A not-for-profit, its sole mission is to grow and raise the profile of basketball in the United Kingdom, through a focus on projects that have a long term, sustainable impact. Though the work over the past two years has focused around the Classic, we are hoping to release our first whitepapers later this year. Any profits from the Hoopsfix All Star Classic go back into the Foundation to fund future events and projects. The Hoopsfix Foundation 5

  • 9. U17 Coaches Karl Brown Team White Head Coach Another British basketball legend, Brown is the only British player to make an NCAA Final Four, with Georgia Tech in 1990. Brown founded the Leicester Warriors in 2004, where he has since guided them to Division 1 promotion where he remains their Head Coach. An assistant to Bucknall with the England Under-18 men during the years of their promotion to Division A and best ever finish, before taking the Head Coach role himself, he was reunited with Steve Bucknall on the England U18 coaching staff this season, as they will look to get the squad back to Division A. Steve Bucknall Team Black Head Coach One of the great British basketball players of all time, Bucknall hung up the boots in 2006 to switch to the sidelines. The switch didn’t stop the former LA Laker from continuing to amass accolades. Internationally, Bucknall led the England Under-18s to their first ever promotion to Division A, including the team’s best ever finish in 2013 with ninth place including a huge win over Spain. Domestically, he also won an Under-18 National Title in 2011 with Lewisham Thunder – the club he set up in 2008. After a year hiatus, Bucknall returned to take the reigns of the England Under-18 men this season. 9

  • 24. GB U20s 24 British Basketball have named an initial 22-man squad that features a number of Hoopsfix All Star Classic players, as they begin preparations for this summer’s Division B European Championships in Greece. Four of the 22 players chosen in the squad will take to the floor in today’s Under-19 game with Andre Arissol, Kyle Carey, Moses Byekwaso and Shaquille Walters all eager to impress. Arissol was an EABL Championship winner with Charnwood this season, while Byekwaso was the Final MVP in helping Preston’s win the inaugural ABL Championship. Meanwhile, Carey – last year’s HASC Under-19 MVP - and Walters were EABL Players of the Year for their respective conferences and go head-to-head in Brixton in a highly anticipated match-up. Bristol Flyers and GB U20 Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas will be able to keep a close eye on the prospects as he takes the reigns of Team White with one of his assistants, Josh Merrington, leading the opposing Team Black. There are also several other players in the squad that have featured in previous HASC editions with eight players that competed in the 2015 Under-19 game called up. Sedale Hanson-Young, Liam Carpenter, Jules Dang Akodo, Earl Russell and Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye suited up for Team Black in their 85-71 win over a Team White side that included Sam Newman, Josh Steel and Deane Williams. “I’m really look forward to camp and working with the players,” Kapoulas said. “We have a talented group and competition for all positions will be very tight. This is really pleasing to see and it’s great for the national team programme. “Camp is always very intense and we need to make the most of our time in preparation. It’s tough to get invited and then once you are in there you are fighting for one of the spots, its a very competitive high performance environment. “We want to return to Division A and it will not be an easy task especially with the high quality of the competition this year in particular with 7 teams gone down from Div A last summer. For now it’s important to focus on the process, make sure we get better every day in our preparation and be in the best shape possible for the European championships.” Half of the 22-man squad played in the States last season including German-born Malik Eichler, who is a new face to the National Teams set-up. Kapoulas’ side will play in Group C alongside the Netherlands, Albania, Ireland, Kosovo and tournament hosts, Greece. GB will hold a training camp at the University of Essex before whittling their squad down to 12 for the European Championships, which run from 15-24 July. Great Britain Under-20s will be looking to get straight back to Division A this summer following relegation in Italy last year. Initial Squad: Andre Arissol Harvey Barr Moses Byekwaso Kyle Carey Liam Carpenter Jules Dang Akodo Malik Eichler Pharroh Gordon Sedale Hanson-Young Selby Hind-Wills Boban Jacdonmi Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye Callum Lawson Fraser Malcolm Sam Newman Kingsley Nwagboso Theo Oghide Earl Russell Joshua Steel Shaquille Walters Deane Williams Findlay Wood. <

  • 26. GB Senior 26 The BBF released their vision and strategy document for the sport 'Transforming Basketball in Britain Together' in May, as they put forward their plans for the next 12 years. The three GB home qualifiers - against Macedonia on 3 September, Luxembourg on 7 September and Hungary on 10 September - will all take place at the Copper Box in London and be the first games to take place since the launch of the vision. Who will suit up remains to be seen, but with the announcement of a Festival of Basketball, to coincide with the games, the BBF are doing all they can to ensure they start the right way. “The time is right to be taking on the challenge of transforming basketball in Britain with the coming together of the three home nations and in the context of the new DCMS led strategy for Active Nations,” said BBF Chairman, Nick Humby. After qualifying for three consecutive EuroBasket Finals from 2009-13, GB missed out on last year’s major tournament and will be keen to avoid a repeated failure. Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach, Joe Prunty, returns for another summer at the helm of the GB Senior Men’s Team with the aim of helping his side re-join Europe’s elite at EuroBasket 2017 – to be held across four cities in Romania, Finland, Israel and Turkey. One of the main aims for the BBF is to develop successful GB teams and August/September’s qualifiers present an immediate opportunity to set the bar of playing at the top level in international basketball. The British Basketball Federation will be using this September’s EuroBasket 2017 qualifiers as a symbol of new beginnings, with the new body officially taking FIBA Membership in October 2016. GB Senior Men’s Qualifying Schedule 31/8 v Hungary (A) 3/9 v Macedonia (H) 7/9 Luxembourg (H) 10/9 v Hungary (H) 14/9 v Macedonia (A) 17/9 v Luxembourg (A) All home games are hosted at the Copperbox Arena, London, for more information visit: gbbasketball.com
