While a preacher cannot add to the effectiveness of the Word, the effectiveness of the Word can be hindered by poor preaching or delivery. This is why Homiletics is necessary.

When I first entered the ministry, I knew absolutely nothing about sermon preparation. My first sermon was a fulfillment of that old preacher’s saying, “Preach everything you know in ten minutes and then go over it again!”
I was determined to learn how to better prepare sermons. That quest eventually led me to seminary where I had some wonderful professors who loved the Lord and loved beginner preachers. I’m grateful for all their teaching and input.
But there was quite a bit of time between my first sermon and my seminary years. As I searched for tools during that span, I found one book that quickly became my favorite. That book was Building Sermons to Meet People’s Needs by Harold T. Bryson. Sadly, the book now appears to be out of print.
While going through some old files on my computer I stumbled onto a form I created from the suggestions in Dr. Bryson’s book. This form was a mainstay during my early sermon preparation efforts. I thought some of you who visit my website might like to take a look at it for yourselves. So I’ve created this .pdf to share with you.
The form has some terms and acronyms Dr. Bryson used in his book. They may not make much sense, but I think there’s enough detail in the form for you to get the gist of it.
I hope this little tool might help you in your sermon preparation. Feel free to share the form as much as you want. Let me know if you use it!
Hermeneutics is the science of biblical interpretation. Understanding how to read Scripture is an exciting and crucial way to grow as a Christian, grow in discernment, and rightly divide the Word of God. In this workshop, you will learn how to extract the intended meaning out of a passage without reading your own meaning into it. You will also learn what the Literal, Historical, Grammatical, Synthetic and Practical Principles are and how to use them to correctly interpret Scripture.
EVANGELISM 101: Lesson 1 - Biblical Foundations of EvangelismFrancis Hernandez
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:13-15)
"It (Evangelism) comes from the same Greek word for gospel (euangelion) and means, literally, “gospeling.” When we evangelize we are “gospeling” — we are spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ." - https://www.ligonier.org/learn/devotionals/what-evangelism/
Every Christian is called to do the divine task of evangelism. Evangelism is a task not just for the select churches, or for the evangelists or pastors. This is Lesson 1 of EVANGELISM 101 Series. Given last April 23, 2021 at HOPE Christian Fellowship in Guinobatan, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines by Ptr. Francis S. Hernandez.

If you preach for 30 minutes, you'll use about 30,000 words. Question is, how many of those words will your congregation remember? Learn how to create a sticky statement—a short memorable bottom line—to help people remember more of your sermons, in this training.
This slide show is from a class I taught at the Liverpool Mission Academy 'Pastoral Pathway' course entitled 'Sermon Illustrations.' The session discusses sermon illustration theory and demonstrates the use and effectiveness of illustrations.
Preaching is one ministry of the Christian church... it is how the church addresses issues of all sorts... (spiritual to ethical to social to political)...

Rethinking: Authority, Leadership and SubmissionNeo Lamperouge
After reading a Christian blog entitled "Spiritual Abuse: Shepherds Leading Like Royals", i was convicted and was lead to write an article about this difficult and sensitive issue of Authoritarianism (an idolatrous sin of controlling people). I began to recognize Authoritarian leaders around me and later recognized I was one of them. Having confidence in the authority and reliability of the sacred Scriptures, I am certain that this type of leadership in a church is not right nor biblical. Delve into this issue with me and encounter the right path to biblical leadership.
Who is the Holy Spirit? Here in Session 10 of Crossover Weekend Retreat we will know the Person and the Work of the Holy Spirit. Also, we will understand what it means to receive Him and to be filled by Him.
While many know that Jesus died on the cross, only few knew what He really did and accomplished in dying there. He did something for sure because he said "It is finished!", but what is it? Here in Session 3 of the Crossover Weekend Retreat we will find out.
End of Days SERIES | Days of Noah (Matthew 24:37-39)Neo Lamperouge
Jesus gives a clear picture of what the world looks like in the last days. He does this by comparing the generation preceding His return to the generation where Noah found himself. It was a picture of ungodliness that was so great it provoked God to send judgment upon the face of the earth. Because Noah found grace in the Lord’s eyes, God spared him and his family from the destruction. So it will be in the last days. The rise of wickedness and worldliness in our time makes the world ripe for impending judgment. But joy to those who found grace in the Lord Jesus and are walking with Him as Noah did, for He will spare them from the greatest troubles the world will ever witness.
As Genesis 41 unfolds, Joseph got promoted from Prisoner to Governor of the entire Egypt. Scholars and historians point out that it was Pharaoh Sesostris I who promoted him. But wait, how did he got such promotion all up a sudden? How did his long-time dream got fulfilled?
Joseph had a God-given dream but as he shared it to the ones who are close to him, they questioned him. We too will be questioned with our dreams but like Joseph, we must dream on and believe that God can turn our dream into reality.
For the sake of Homothumadon, focus on what we have in common, not our differences. Disagreements, as Rick Warren comments, is an indication that the Church has shifted to something less important: non-essentials.
The Certainty of Death and Uncertainty of LifeNeo Lamperouge
One common response towards the Great Commission is "Yes, I will go and make disciples, but NOT NOW". But WHY NOT NOW? Why do we go often to that direction? Probably because we have lost sight of the reality of the certainty of death and uncertainty of life.
Jesus glorified his Father here on earth by making disciples (John 17:4), and he calls us to do the same (John 17:18). God does not ask from us that we glorify Him in any way for which He will not supply us. And that's where the cross comes in.
The best way to start the New Year, I believe, is to immerse ourselves with the promises of God. According to scholars, there are approximately 1,260 promises that awaits us in the Bible. And we can claim them by faith in the Son of God.
It is notable that the total number of homosexuals in our country is gradually increasing. Not only their number but also their zeal to introduce homosexuality as “an alternative lifestyle” is rising today. May this article help us see what we ought to think about homosexuality and how we ought to respond to homosexuals.

The Hope of Salvation - Jude 1:24-25 - MessageCole Hartman
Jude gives us hope at the end of a dark letter. In a dark world like today, we need the light of Christ to shine brighter and brighter. Jude shows us where to fix our focus so we can be filled with God's goodness and glory. Join us to explore this incredible passage.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
