The document discusses biblical exegesis for preaching and how to engage audiences with scripture. It addresses competing narratives, seeing ourselves in biblical stories, and inspiring creativity through exegesis. It outlines the rhetorical triangle of logos, ethos and pathos. It questions if the goal is intellectual knowledge or effecting change in listeners. It emphasizes the word becoming flesh through Jesus and something happening in the audience. It provides examples of engaging scripture outside of church through an impromptu conversation about the Gospel of John.

The case for speaking in tongues 7 – Corinthian Considerations.Dan Wooldridge
After far too long a wait this is finally finished. Years ago I was asked by a fellow preacher to write a book concerning the teaching and doctrine of the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the liberty of speaking in tongues.
It went on the back burner, I could never see the importance of published books and I'm still faintly bemused by the fact that I had a perfectly good set of working notes on the subject of "How to Say It" which was about the skill of putting a message together for effective preaching. Hardly anybody showed any interest in the working notes until another friend of mine published it in a hardback cover. I never cease to be amazed at the gullibility of us all who tend to look on the outside and not at the heart of the matter.
Once I got interested in multimedia presentations and the effects of social media style ministry I decided, as unto the Lord, that I ought to publish some plain scriptural content concerning the revelation of The Gift of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues in general.
This is number seven in the series and it looks at the implications of the teaching of the Word of God in the first book of Corinthians and how many have come to wrest the word of God to the loss of many and the confusion of most. Here is to letting a little plain scriptural light into the dimness of our understanding in the hope that we will be flooded with joy and power upon realising that this gift is for us and our children and for as many as the Lord our God shall call.

When I first entered the ministry, I knew absolutely nothing about sermon preparation. My first sermon was a fulfillment of that old preacher’s saying, “Preach everything you know in ten minutes and then go over it again!”
I was determined to learn how to better prepare sermons. That quest eventually led me to seminary where I had some wonderful professors who loved the Lord and loved beginner preachers. I’m grateful for all their teaching and input.
But there was quite a bit of time between my first sermon and my seminary years. As I searched for tools during that span, I found one book that quickly became my favorite. That book was Building Sermons to Meet People’s Needs by Harold T. Bryson. Sadly, the book now appears to be out of print.
While going through some old files on my computer I stumbled onto a form I created from the suggestions in Dr. Bryson’s book. This form was a mainstay during my early sermon preparation efforts. I thought some of you who visit my website might like to take a look at it for yourselves. So I’ve created this .pdf to share with you.
The form has some terms and acronyms Dr. Bryson used in his book. They may not make much sense, but I think there’s enough detail in the form for you to get the gist of it.
I hope this little tool might help you in your sermon preparation. Feel free to share the form as much as you want. Let me know if you use it!
While a preacher cannot add to the effectiveness of the Word, the effectiveness of the Word can be hindered by poor preaching or delivery. This is why Homiletics is necessary.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

and a girl sat down at a table next to me. She said hello and asked me what I was
doing...and being the fool that I am I said..."Working on a speech for a class"...then
feeling that all too familiar kick in the conscious not to be ashamed of the Gospel
and I said, "Well, actually, it is a sermon--something like a speech that pastors give to
give witness to God ..." She said, "Oh, I see, cool." Then she brought all of her stuff,
sat down at my table in the chair across from me, grabbed my notebook with my
notes to look at, and said..."Ok. I'm listening..." And then I preached the word...the
text: John 3:14-21. YES, THIS REALLY HAPPENED. What did [I] re-learn today? Our
pulpits are truly not in the fronts of churches or high and lofty ivory towers; dare we
even say the serpent raising institutions and mindsets, of which I am surely a part,
that have misused and imprisoned texts like John 3:16 with false glory and
condemnation. Nay brothers and sisters, our pulpits are and always have been in the
world, and they are there in every new and unexpected place of darkness calling us
to point to Christ and to shine the penetrating, life-giving light of the Gospel of God.
The God who loves the world deeply. The God who makes all things new...creates
out of nothing...brings hope out of despair...the God who constantly restores and
reorders how we understand power and witness...Yes, our God, the great I AM who
is revealed in Christ on the cross...the God who has called us each his beloved
children...and the God who has freed us to live that very identity in the world. "This
is my commandment: love one another." ♥ Silly God.
