This document discusses Jesus' healing ministry and the Christian belief that God can heal sickness. It provides examples from the Gospels of Jesus healing various illnesses and injuries. The document asserts that Christians are commissioned to pray for the healing of others based on Mark 16:15-18. It addresses differing views on whether divine healing continues today, whether all sickness is due to sin, and whether it is acceptable for Christians to seek medical treatment. The overall message is that all healing comes from God, and Christians should trust that God can heal through prayer or medicine according to His purposes.
This lesson from the Gospel of Matthew discusses Jesus' early ministry and key events:
- John the Baptist preached repentance in the wilderness and pointed to Jesus as the Messiah.
- Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan for 40 days. He overcame every temptation by relying on Scripture.
- Jesus began his ministry in Galilee, calling disciples like Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John to follow him and become "fishers of men." They immediately left their work to follow him fully.
John the Baptist began his ministry preaching repentance and baptizing people in the River Jordan. Jesus began his ministry after John and was baptized by him in the Jordan River, where he saw the Holy Spirit descend on him in the form of a dove and heard God declare him to be his beloved Son. Jesus was then led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where he fasted for 40 days and was tempted three times by the devil, quoting scripture each time to resist temptation.
The document summarizes Jesus' healing ministry and provides spiritual and physical healing principles. It describes Jesus healing many who were lame, blind, crippled, and mute. It discusses how Jesus healed physical, emotional, and spiritual afflictions. Principles from the Bible like prayer, faith in God, and living according to His word are emphasized as promoting health and healing. The early church also saw displays of healing through figures like Peter and Paul. God continues to offer healing through prayer, anointing the sick, and following health reform principles.
Jesus was the firstborn from the dead according to Revelation 1:5. The article discusses the theological significance of this title for Jesus. It means that Jesus was both the first to rise from the dead and the one who has supremacy and authority as the inaugurator of the new creation. Jesus' resurrection opened the way for believers to also be resurrected to eternal life. He fulfilled prophecies of being the Messiah and son of God. Other passages also refer to Jesus as the firstborn or first fruits of the resurrection to emphasize his preeminence.
Jesus demonstrated his power over diseases and death by healing the sick and raising the dead. This showed his messianic authority and God's love for humanity. When Jesus healed, people were filled with awe and said "God has come to help his people." Jesus had power from the Holy Spirit to heal as part of fulfilling his mission and establishing God's kingdom on Earth by overcoming sin and its consequences like sickness, suffering, and death.
God's will is to heal according to the Bible. When a leper asked if Jesus was willing to heal him, Jesus touched and healed him, showing it was His will. Others argue God doesn't heal today, but they seek medical care, showing with their actions they believe God does will healing. Divine healing was part of the atonement, so as children of God we have a right to healing as part of our inheritance through Christ's sacrifice. God heals out of compassion and to fulfill prophecies, reveal His glory, and prove His mission.

This document provides notes for a minister on an integral and holistic approach to ministry, healing, and deliverance. Some key points:
1. An integral approach sees the gospel, human beings, the church's mission, and ministry as addressing all aspects of life - physical, emotional, spiritual, social, etc. The needs of the people should guide the types of ministry provided.
2. In terms of healing, a Christian definition sees it as restoring total harmony in body, mind and spirit. The church should fulfill its healing ministry through compassion. There are six dimensions of healing, including physical, spiritual, inner, mental, psycho-social, and social healing.
3. The medical model reduces health

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the most important event in all of human history. This presentation examines the historical veracity of the resurrection, dispels common myths, and showcases of what Christ rising from the dead means for us today.
During the early stages of Jesus' ministry in Galilee:
1) Jesus began preaching that the kingdom of God was near and calling disciples like Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow him. 2) He demonstrated his authority over demons and diseases by performing many exorcisms and healings, which amazed the crowds. 3) He controversially healed on the Sabbath and ate with sinners, challenging Jewish traditions and authorities. 4) Jesus formally called the twelve apostles who would be his closest followers as he traveled throughout Galilee teaching and healing.
The document discusses Christian faith and health. It defines health from a biblical perspective and explores the perfect will of God for divine health. It examines various causes of sickness, including sin, curses, strain, improper care of the body, and ignorance. It argues that while it is God's will to heal, using medicine does not demonstrate a lack of faith. Scripture provides evidence that God can use medical means to aid the healing process.
This document discusses Satan's end-time deceptions and counterfeit miracles. It warns that Satan will perform great signs and wonders to deceive people into thinking he is God. However, God's miracles are distinguished by recognition of and obedience to divine law, application of natural remedies, and instruction in healthful living. True miracles require reformation of harmful habits and bring people into conformity with God's will, while Satan's counterfeits ignore God's law and encourage continued ignorance and presumption.
The document discusses the key events that will precede Christ's return according to Christian eschatology. It mentions the re-gathering of Israel, the Rapture where Christians will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air, the Tribulation period involving the rise of the Antichrist and great distress on Earth, and the Abomination of Desolation signaling the midpoint of the Tribulation. It provides biblical references to support the order and descriptions of these end times events.
Michael Burns gave a presentation on The Resurrection World View at the 2015 ICEC at York College in York, Nebraska June 19 and 20, 2015. The class included a historical analysis of the concept of resurrection, an in-depth analysis of the evidence for the resurrection, but also emphasized the implications, both personally and for the entire human condition which comes with the resurrection of Jesus. The Paschal Mystery refers to Christ's passion, death, resurrection, and ascension. It is central to Christian faith as it relates to God's plan of salvation for humanity. The Paschal Mystery is commemorated in the liturgy and sacraments of the Church, especially the Eucharist. The key events of Jesus' passion included the Last Supper, agony in the garden, trial, crucifixion and death, followed by his resurrection on the third day and ascension into heaven. The Paschal Mystery reminds Christians that through suffering, death and new life are overcome, and it has implications for how they live daily.
1. The document discusses the role of medical missionary work in preparing God's people to stand true during the investigative judgment and spreading the gospel.
2. It emphasizes that the purpose of establishments like publishing houses, schools, and sanitariums is to carry out medical missionary work, following Christ's example of healing and helping others.
3. Quotes from the Bible and Ellen White are provided about the importance of medical missionary work in advancing the gospel and opening doors for the third angel's message to be shared.
This document discusses faith healing and provides different perspectives on the topic. It begins by providing examples of faith healing successes reported by people around the world. However, it notes that some question how faith healing works and whether there is any guarantee it will be effective. The document then explores faith healing stories in the Bible and reports of modern day successes. At the same time, it acknowledges faith healing does not always work and provides an example of parents being charged with murder for relying solely on faith healing for their son. Ultimately, the document concludes that it is reasonable to seek both medical help and rely on God for healing, and that what God and modern medicine can do are not contradictory approaches.
A presentation focusing on Jesus & the Spirit in the Gospel according to St. John. Also, a consideration of how John's portrayal of Jesus and the Spirit contributed to the development of the doctrine of the Trinity.

The young pastor had a conversation with a woman who wanted to be baptized again. She felt she needed to confess more about her past. They discussed forgiveness in Christ. It then began raining heavily.
The document discusses Paul and Silas entering Thessalonica after being beaten in Philippi. They spoke boldly in the synagogue about how Jesus fulfilled prophecies. Paul's strategy was to attend the synagogue and use the Old Testament to show how the Messiah was prophesied to suffer before receiving glory. There were conflicting images of a conquering king and suffering servant in the prophecies.
Jesus healed many who were sick and possessed by demons, fulfilling a prophecy from Isaiah. The prophecy stated that the Messiah would bear our infirmities and diseases. While Jesus healed many physically during his ministry, the primary fulfillment of this prophecy referred to Jesus bearing our sins on the cross. Though we still experience disease and suffering in this life, Jesus sympathizes with our struggles and ultimately bore our sins and infirmities through his sacrificial death.

This document discusses key topics in the theology of Christ, including his divine and human natures, the hypostatic union of those natures in one person, his ability or inability to sin (peccability), and several historical Christological heresies. It provides biblical support for Christ's deity and humanity, examines how his two natures are united in one person without confusion, and explores whether Christ could have sinned given his divine nature. The document also briefly outlines five Christological heresies rejected by orthodox Christianity.
Jesus Christ is the center of all created order. He pre-existed and was involved in both creation and redemption. As fully God and fully man through the hypostatic union, Jesus was able to reveal God and atone for humanity's sins through his sinless life and death on the cross. As God in human form, he veiled his divine attributes and glory through kenosis to live among people.
The document discusses faith-based approaches to health and wellness. It introduces the Congregational Health ReSource (CHR) organization, which aims to serve as a bridge between the health care and faith communities by advancing biblical perspectives on health, increasing awareness of prevention and treatment options, and providing a clearinghouse of health information resources. CHR's goal is to connect these communities so that together they can promote healing. The document then covers various aspects of health as they relate to the body, soul, spirit, and faith from biblical perspectives.
This document outlines the key points of a lesson on divine healing. It discusses how divine healing was provided in Jesus' atonement by bearing our sicknesses and infirmities. It explores the primary cause of sickness being humanity's disobedience and fall, as well as secondary causes like sin, Satan, and God allowing sickness for His works to be manifest. The document provides scriptural foundations for divine healing from the Old and New Testaments. It argues that Jesus heals today as He always has, and refutes common objections to divine healing such as miracles being past or medical science replacing God's healing.
This document provides an outline and overview of the book of Revelation. It begins by describing the four typical ways Revelation has been interpreted: already fulfilled, a history from Jesus to the end, not yet fulfilled beginning in chapter 4, and idealist/symbolic. The document then examines the situation of the early church that John was writing to, noting they faced persecution but lacked clarity on God's plans.
The main sections and symbols of Revelation are summarized. It describes seven churches that received letters with a consistent pattern of greeting, title of Christ, commendation, criticism, warning, and promise. Chapters 4-22 are divided into the seven seals, seven trumpets, the dragon/beasts, seven bowls,

3. What is Foundational for Discipling Someone? Notes (Letter Sized)William Anderson
This is the third of four sessions of our “Being and Making Disciples” workshop held in Săcele on September 1, 2012. In this session we answered the question “What is Foundational for Discipling Someone? by looking at what to do to help build a strong foundation in the life of those we disciple. The topics covered included looking the big picture, being vs doing, the gospel of Jesus, three main tools Jesus uses, it’s all about Jesus, our heart motivation and our new identity.
The document provides an overview of what constitutes the gospel according to Pastor Charles E. Whisnant. It discusses that the gospel is more than just believing in Jesus, but also includes God redeeming humanity and including people in His kingdom through Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and ascension. It notes four key ingredients that make the gospel effective: it must be preached in word, power, the Holy Spirit, and with assurance. The document examines the characteristics of true saving faith, including production, affection, continuation, transformation, and jubilation. It discusses how the believers in Thessalonica became examples to others and strong witnesses through their exemplary lives and faith in God.
This document discusses that salvation includes healing of both spiritual and physical ailments. It provides biblical evidence that God's nature is one of wholeness and that healing is part of His salvation plan based on passages about Jesus' ministry and his atonement on the cross. The document also lists possible reasons for why Christians may experience sickness, such as ignorance, disobedience, neglect of health, and wrong attitudes. It provides steps to take if one is sick, including prayer, asking others to pray, and calling elders of the church.
3. What is Foundational for Discipling Someone? Notes (A4)William Anderson
The document provides guidance on foundational principles for discipling someone. It emphasizes establishing the "big picture" of salvation history with Jesus at the center. When discipling others, the initial focus should be on "being" rather than "doing" - helping them understand their new identity in Christ through the gospel. This establishes the proper motivation from a transformed heart before exhorting good works. Key tools for growth are engaging with the word of God, prayer, and fellowship within the church community.
The holy spirit and bodily resurrectionGLENN PEASE
This is a collection of writings dealing with the resurrection of Jesus and of His believers. Like Him they will experience a body resurrection and not just spiritual. It is all because the Holy Spirit dwells in them.
The document provides an outline for a course on the gospel of Christ. It begins by defining the gospel as the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ, based on his death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. It explains that the gospel covers the results and benefits of Jesus' death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. It then discusses the power of the gospel message to bring salvation and the necessity of preachers to spread the gospel so that people can hear, believe, and be saved. The document stresses that the gospel proclaims liberty, comfort, and joy to those who were previously bound or mourning. It describes the gospel as telling of the glory that follows Christ's sufferings. In the end
This document provides an overview and summary of the book "The Final Triumph" by Zac Poonen, which contains a verse-by-verse study of the book of Revelation. The summary covers key points from the introduction and first chapter. It discusses that the book is a revelation from God meant for his bondservants, communicated through symbols, and promises blessings for those who obey its teachings. It also analyzes the first few verses of chapter one, highlighting the titles and roles of Christ that are mentioned.

Lesson 12 | Prayer, healing, and restoration | Sabbath Schooljespadill
This document discusses prayer, healing, and restoration through scripture passages. It examines James 5:13-20 and how prayer can bring physical and spiritual healing. Prayer is important during suffering, and praise during good times helps us remember God. The elders praying and anointing the sick shows a desire for God to intervene. True healing includes forgiveness of sins. Jesus' miracles taught spiritual healing from sin. Prayer, like Elijah's, based on God's word can accomplish great things and bring renewal, as God uses people to save others from wandering from the truth.
This is a collection of some of the best writings on the importance of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. We need to take the role of the Spirit more seriously.
This document provides a Bible study on the plan of salvation according to the Gospels, Acts, and Epistles. It guides readers through key passages about Jesus' teachings on being born again, the Apostles' preaching of repentance and baptism in Jesus' name, and receiving the Holy Spirit. The study encourages readers to pray and commit their lives to God if they believe these biblical teachings. Supplementary scriptures are referenced for further study.
The Gospel is not just an introductory message but the central message of Christianity about salvation through Jesus Christ. It is meant to be handed down from generation to generation without change. Preaching the Gospel with power means preaching it as the foolishness of the cross rather than adapting it to different cultures. True reception of the Gospel involves complete trust in Christ alone for salvation, submitting one's life to His lordship, and standing firm on the truths of the Gospel. The Gospel's promise of eternal salvation through Christ's atoning death and resurrection should be a primary motivation for Christians.
The document discusses confronting people about their spiritual priorities, especially when facing death or surgery. It warns against relying on psychedelic drugs or New Age practices instead of Jesus Christ. While a positive attitude can aid health, only faith in Christ offers eternal life. The Bible condemns sorcery and predicts deception through drugs in the last days. Believers must lovingly warn others from falling for this and help them find salvation through repentance and faith in Christ alone.
Lesson 01 Defining Evangelism and WitnessingCMN :PPT
The passage discusses evangelism and witnessing. It explains that evangelism involves spreading the gospel message about Jesus, including His life, teachings, and the difference accepting Him makes. Witnessing refers to sharing one's personal testimony and experience of how God has worked in their life. The early disciples were commanded to spread the gospel message boldly. Barnabas and Saul were called by the Holy Spirit to preach the word of God to non-Jews. Sharing personal testimonies of how faith has impacted one's life can be a powerful form of witnessing.

It addresses key topics in pneumatology including: who/what is the Holy Spirit, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, receiving the Holy Spirit, the filling of the Holy Spirit, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The study of pneumatology is important for Christians as it provides understanding of the Holy Spirit, who plays a vital role in the lives of believers as their Comforter and Helper in prayer.

Rethinking: Homosexuality and the Pro-Gay MovementNeo Lamperouge
This document discusses the Christian perspective on homosexuality. It begins by defining homosexuality as gender identity confusion resulting in same-sex attraction. It asserts that the Bible is the sole authority on whether homosexuality is right or wrong. The Bible unambiguously identifies homosexuality as sinful based on several passages. While homosexuality is a sin, Christians are called to condemn the sin but not the sinner, sharing God's love and salvation through Christ. The document encourages praying for and supporting homosexuals in overcoming same-sex attraction through God's grace.

Jesus gives a clear picture of what the world looks like in the last days. He does this by comparing the generation preceding His return to the generation where Noah found himself. It was a picture of ungodliness that was so great it provoked God to send judgment upon the face of the earth. Because Noah found grace in the Lord’s eyes, God spared him and his family from the destruction. So it will be in the last days. The rise of wickedness and worldliness in our time makes the world ripe for impending judgment. But joy to those who found grace in the Lord Jesus and are walking with Him as Noah did, for He will spare them from the greatest troubles the world will ever witness.
As Genesis 41 unfolds, Joseph got promoted from Prisoner to Governor of the entire Egypt. Scholars and historians point out that it was Pharaoh Sesostris I who promoted him. But wait, how did he got such promotion all up a sudden? How did his long-time dream got fulfilled?
Joseph had a God-given dream but as he shared it to the ones who are close to him, they questioned him. We too will be questioned with our dreams but like Joseph, we must dream on and believe that God can turn our dream into reality.
For the sake of Homothumadon, focus on what we have in common, not our differences. Disagreements, as Rick Warren comments, is an indication that the Church has shifted to something less important: non-essentials.
The Certainty of Death and Uncertainty of LifeNeo Lamperouge
One common response towards the Great Commission is "Yes, I will go and make disciples, but NOT NOW". But WHY NOT NOW? Why do we go often to that direction? Probably because we have lost sight of the reality of the certainty of death and uncertainty of life.
Jesus glorified his Father here on earth by making disciples (John 17:4), and he calls us to do the same (John 17:18). God does not ask from us that we glorify Him in any way for which He will not supply us. And that's where the cross comes in.
The best way to start the New Year, I believe, is to immerse ourselves with the promises of God. According to scholars, there are approximately 1,260 promises that awaits us in the Bible. And we can claim them by faith in the Son of God.
It is notable that the total number of homosexuals in our country is gradually increasing. Not only their number but also their zeal to introduce homosexuality as “an alternative lifestyle” is rising today. May this article help us see what we ought to think about homosexuality and how we ought to respond to homosexuals.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

4. I. JESUS HEALS
Jesus heals! We may not know how many
miraculous healings Jesus performed during
His earthly ministry, as what the apostle John
said, “If they were all written down, I suppose
the whole world could not contain the books
that would be written” (21:25), but we know
that 17x in the Gospels it says that Jesus
“healed all their sicknesses”!
Some are specifically recorded in the Bible:
He healed a man’s son (John 4:46-54), a
Canaanite girl (Matthew 15:21-28), a Roman
soldier (Luke 22:50-51), a centurion’s slave
(Luke 7:1-10), Peter’s mother-in-law (Luke
4:38-39), and women (Luke 8:43-48; Luke
13:11-13).
Such healings were miraculous as He healed a
man with swollen arms and legs (Luke 14:1-4),
a sick man (John 5:1-9), a paralyzed man
(Luke 5:18-25), a deaf man (Mark 7:31-37),
mute men (Luke 4:33-35; Luke 11:14), blind
men (Matthew 9:27-31; Mark 8:22-26; Luke
18:35-43; Matthew 9:27-31), and lepers (Luke
5:12-13; Luke 17:11-19).
He simply healed them sometimes by touch
(Mark 6:56; Luke 4:40) and sometimes by
word (Matthew 8:3; 9:22; Mark 1:41; Luke
5:13; John 5:8). And when He heals, they are
healed instantly and totally (Matthew 8:3,13;
9:22; 15:28; 17:18; 20:34; Mark 1:42; 7:35;
10:52; Luke 5:13; 13:13; 18:43; John 5:9)!
All of these affirms not only the deity of Jesus
but also the words of the apostle Paul that
"the Lord cares about our bodies" (1
Corinthians 6:13).
II. COMMISSIONED TO HEAL
Many are aware that the Great Commission
verse is Matthew 28:19-20 but only few are
aware that it has a parallel passage.
* Parallel passages occur when a single event or major concept is
given in two or more places in the various scriptural accounts.
And Mark 16:15-18 is its parallel passage.
In v. 18 (of Mark 16) is a promise, "... [You]
will be able to place [your] hands on the sick,
and they will be healed."
Note: the command and the promise in Mark
16:15-18 is not restricted only to a special
category of Christians, but to ALL Christians.
Yes! We are all commissioned not only to
make disciples, but also to "place our hands
on the sick"!
Jesus healed and He commissioned us before
He ascended to heal the sick too in His name.
Pressured? You and I shouldn't be. It is vital to
remember that IT IS GOD who heals (Exodus
15:26), not us. Our role is to believe and obey
Mark 16:15-18, and let God be God.
In the book of Acts we see how the apostles
5. believed and obeyed it:
| Acts 3:6-8 [to a man who is lame since
birth]; "...’in the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, get up and walk!' Then Peter took
the lame man by the right hand and helped
him up. And as he did, the man's feet and
ankles were instantly healed and
strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his
feet, and began to walk! Then walking,
leaping, and praising God, he went into the
Temple with them."
| Acts 9:34 [to a man who is paralyzed and
bedridden for eight years]; "Peter said to him,
'Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and
roll over your sleeping mat!' And he was
healed instantly."
| Acts 14:10 [to a man who is crippled feet
since birth]; "So Paul called to him in a loud
voice, ''Stand up!' And the man jumped to his
feet and started walking."
| Acts 28:8-9 [Ill with fever and dysentery];
"…Paul went in and prayed for him, and laying
his hands on him, he healed him. Then all the
other sick people on the island came and
were healed."
III. GIFTED TO HEAL
It is clear in 1 Corinthians 12:9 that the Holy
Spirit graciously bestows the gift of healing to
"whom He wills" (v.11). This does not mean
though that the gifted is the Healer! We know
it is God who heals (Psalm 103:3).
Here are 5 questions to assess whether you
are graciously bestowed by God with this gift:
1. Do you have a deep compassion for people
who are sick?
2. Do you have a deep conviction that God
can heal anyone He chooses?
3. Do you enjoy praying for people who are
sick, and have you seen people healed when
you do so?
4. When God heals someone, are you excited
because it helps reveal His power to others?
5. Do you long for the coming of God’s
Kingdom (mentioned by Jesus 82 times),
when there will be an end to all sickness?
Today, around the world, we find examples of
those who were gifted with this extraordinary
gift. This does not mean that we can leave it
all to them. The commission to heal is for all
of us. Just as we do not all have the gift of
evangelism, but we are all called to tell others
about Jesus, so we do not all have the gift of
healing, but we are all called to pray for the
sick.
IV. SOME SAY: DIVINE HEALING HAS
CEASED
6. In other words, they say that God no longer
miraculously heal people today. They also say
that the supernatural gifts, such as healing,
ceased to operate at the end of 1st century
(this is popularly known as cessationism).
But theologians, biblical scholars, and writers
from the 2nd and 3rd century like Augustine,
Origen, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Theophilus,
Quadratus and Justin Martyr report that such
things as healing continued and formed a
normal part of the activity of the early church.
It is also clear from 1 Corinthians 12-14 that
Paul did not believe that such ability was
confined to the apostles.
Jesus is “the same” yesterday, today and
forever (Hebrews 13:8).
John Dela Victoria adds: “I find no evidence
that the ‘charisma’ gifts or the so-called gifts
of the Spirits ceased after the canonization of
the New Testament Scriptures. In fact, there
is no exegetical evidence that the charismatic
gifts are not for today.
When I began to read John MacArthur’s
Charismatic Chaos and articles on Strange Fire
conference, I always go back to the point that
what I need to follow is the Scripture data
that points to the continuation of these gifts.
Get this; most of the arguments of those
authors are not exegetical and hermeneutical
in nature, but rather experiential, emotional
and bad backgrounds in the Charismatic
movement.
You see, you cannot dismiss the gifts of the
Spirit by appealing to experience. You cannot
say that just because you were not healed
during prayer doesn’t mean you must reject
the ‘charisma’ gifts. Because experientially,
there were many who were healed through
prayer and many who were not. So
experience is not a good standard or grounds
for a belief. As the famed Christian apologist
and philosopher Ravi Zacharias has pointed
out, “You can never build a theology on a
basis of a second hand experience. As a
matter of fact, it is also dangerous to build a
theology on your own personal experience un-
sustained by the theoretical written Word of
God.”
I wouldn’t add to the arguments Neo gave
above, those are quite strong, even if his
intention was to point to the authority of
Scripture, not to prove the continuation of
the gifts of the Spirit. I would recommend
though being very careful of charismania, the
position that says every spiritual experience
must came from God, no matter how strange,
unusual and unbiblical it might be. Also be
discerning if one phenomena is from God or
not. The only way for you to know if that kind
of experience would not contradict the
principles God gave in His revealed Scripture.”
7. V. SOME SAY: ALL SICKNESS IS DUE TO
SINNING
In other words, they say that by not sinning,
no Christian needs to ever be sick.
Although the Bible is clear that we can bring
sickness upon ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:27-
32), this is not always the case. We know that
because Job (2:7), Daniel (5:27), Paul
(Galatians 4:13), Timothy (1 Timothy 4:23),
Epaphroditus (Philippians 2:27), and
Trophimus (2 Timothy 4:20) experienced
sickness despite the fact that they deeply
loved God and walked with Him faithfully.
Satan also has the power to make us
physically sick (2 Corinthians 12:7), but
regardless of why we are sick, we need to
pray.
VI. SOME SAY: SEEKING MEDICATION IS
WRONG
In other words, they say that since God can
heal, Christians should not go to a doctor nor
seek for any medicine.
But ponder 2 Chronicles 16:12-13 with me,
"…Asa developed a serious foot disease. Yet
even with the severity of his disease, he did
not seek the Lord's help but turned only to his
physicians. So he died..."
Now the text doesn't say that Asa died
because he turned to his physicians, but that
he died because he has placed his faith on his
physicians for his condition and not on the
Lord. Otherwise he should have sought not
only his physicians BUT ALSO the Lord's help.
The idea that faith is some type of magic cure
that makes all doctors and all medicine
unnecessary is a major misunderstanding.
Those who say that if you go to the doctor for
a medical problem, you lack faith, fail to
understand that the same God who can heal
directly also guides the skilled medical
professionals to accomplish it.
The apostle James mentioned in the 5th
chapter of his letter to “anoint the sick with
oil” (verse 14).
Quoting Daniel Owens’ commentary of the
verse, he says: “Anointing with oil is used in
the Bible to symbolically show the belief that
God is present. The act of anointing or
pouring oil on the forehead of someone
serves as a physical symbol and reminder that
God was there. In Bible times, oil certainly
had a medicinal use as well. Thus, the
knowledge of medicine combined with the
power of God can bring healing to a person’s
life.”
Some approve that Christians may partake
medicine but only those that are herbal. They
go to the original Greek word of pharmacy
which is pharmakeia which can be translated
8. into the English word “sorcery” and apply all
passages in the Bible that speak against
sorcery and the practice of it as passages
against pharmaceutical medicine and the use
of it. It may sound unconvincing but if this is a
personal conviction of a brother or sister in
Christ, I will respect.
But what I see plainly in the pages of the
sacred Scripture is that: All healing comes
ultimately from God. But how He heals and
whom He uses to accomplish the healing
process is up to Him.
VII. FINAL PLEA (TRUST GOD)
If you are sick and disturbed with your illness
right now, please hold on and trust God.
Please allow me to pray for you:
“Dear Lord, You know my friend (the one
reading this) so much better than I do. You
know his/her sickness and the burden he/she
carries. You also know his/her heart. Lord, I
ask You to be with my friend now as You work
in his/her life.
Lord, let Your will be done in his/her life. If
there is a sin that needs to be confessed and
forgiven, please help him/her to see his/her
need and confess.
Lord, I pray for my friend just as Your Word
tells me to pray, for healing. I believe You hear
this earnest prayer from my heart and that it
is powerful because of Your promise. I have
faith in You, Lord, to heal my friend, but I also
trust in the plan You have for his/her life.
Lord, I don't always understand Your ways. I
don't know why my friend has to suffer, but I
trust You. I ask that You look with mercy and
grace toward my friend. Nourish his/her spirit
and soul in this time of suffering and
comfort him/her with Your presence.
Let my friend know that You are there with
him/her through this difficulty. Give him/her
strength. And may You, through this difficulty,
be glorified in his/her life and mine, Amen.”
