There are approximately 800 lymph nodes in the body, with 300 located in the neck. The lymphatic system of the head and neck drains into cervical lymph nodes. Hodgkin's lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system that most commonly arises in lymph nodes and may rarely spread to other organs. It is characterized by the presence of Reed-Sternberg cells and commonly presents as painless swelling of cervical lymph nodes. Diagnosis involves lymph node biopsy and staging includes clinical exams, imaging and laboratory tests to determine extent of disease. Treatment involves radiation therapy for early stages and combination chemotherapy for more advanced cases.
