This study examined the effect of viewing smoking in movies on adolescent smoking initiation. Researchers surveyed over 3,500 10-14 year olds who had never smoked and followed up 13-26 months later. They found that 10% of students had initiated smoking, and those exposed to smoking in movies were over 3 times more likely to start smoking than those not exposed. The study suggests exposure to smoking in movies can influence smoking behavior in adolescents.
