Young Children & Adolescents with Sexual Behaviour Problems: Some lessons lea...Roslinya Latip
Incidents of sexual abuse involving young children as the instigators challenge the notion of 'children's innocence'. It is viewed as a complex problem which invites various responses from the public. The concern and service provision for young people with sexual behaviour problems (SBPs) in the UK is fairly recent, yet it shows rapid development since the publication of 'The Report of the Committee of enquiry into Children and Young People who Sexually Abuse Other Children' by the National Children's Home (NCH) in 1992. This presentation intends to provide some of the key findings from an original research entitled 'Young Children and Adolescents with Sexual Behaviour Problems: Findings from Practitioners and Agencies'. The presentation will highlight the focus of the study wherein to understand the issue of sexual behaviour problems (SBPs) involving young children and adolescents through the analysis of protocols to work with young people reported with a range of SBPs and through talking to the practitioners from various agencies. As this study includes the younger group of young people (those of ages below the age of criminal responsibility), this presentation will also tabulates some of the key features for research that combines two sensitive areas, and that is; research of the vulnerable population, and research of SBPs involving young children and adolescents as the 'instigators'. The presentation will also summarises the approach of the study which was designed to bring about a holistic view of the different ways the understanding of SBPs among young people are manifested in the different service providers and practices. This inter-disciplinary topic will includes some lessons learned for better practice but most importantly it can also be an eye opener for many people about the challenges in the practice with young people with SBPs, which makes this presentation relevant to a wider population.
The document summarizes a research study that examined risk factors for poor outcomes in young mothers referred to the Sure Start "Young Mums to Be" program in West Lothian, Scotland. The study found that the most significant risk factors predicting further social work involvement were a history of substance misuse, criminal justice involvement, abuse, and other family problems. While many risk factors for poor outcomes are interdependent, none alone predicted engagement with the antenatal support program. The implications are that early identification of risk factors is crucial to ensure appropriate support, and a multi-agency approach is needed due to the interdependency of risks.
This document summarizes a study that analyzed whether the number of times a student's cell phone was taken away was associated with their gender or grade level. Chi-squared tests and a two proportion z-test found no significant differences in cell phone confiscations between boys and girls or among grade levels. The researchers concluded that the chances of having your phone taken are equal regardless of these attributes, suggesting no discrimination when enforcing cell phone policies.

This study identified developmental pathways of preschool children with autism who completed a 3-month ABA parent training program. Nine pathways emerged based on intellectual and adaptive behavior scores, with 13.5% identified as "Blossomers" who made the most progress. Case studies of 4 Blossomers at follow-up found they were in the average IQ range and showed lasting substantial improvement from early intensive ABA intervention. The study provides examples of children with autism who benefited greatly from parent training and ABA therapy.

Abstract
The Juvenile Justice Systems has been established with a significant aim of diverting adolescent offender’s destructive punitive actions of criminal courts as well as encouraging youth rehabilitation that is based on the needs of an individual juvenile. This system differs from adult criminal courts in numbers of ways. It looks at an adolescent as a person who needs assistance, instead of looking at the act that made him or her appearance before the court. The judge ought to act in the best suitable interests of the child. Juvenile court proceedings were always closed to the public. Juvenile records were also to remain very confidential so that they do not to interfere with the ability of the child or adolescent to be rehabilitated and merged back into the society. Juveniles are never charged with any crimes, instead of with delinquencies. They are never found guilty but instead, are considered delinquent. They are never sent to prison, but rather to training schools or reformatories. Treatment that incorporates the provision of educational facilities for juvenile offenders, counseling, and guidance, etc. are far better off than punishments that involve prison sentences or fines. This is so because a child would feel loved and cared for. This element plants a seed of love into the juvenile offender’s heart making him or her better person. On the other hand, however, punishment makes them more aware of their criminal character because it gives them what they deserve. They live in self-condemnation.

This document discusses teenage pregnancy in the Philippines. It notes that while youth are supposed to be the hope of the country, teenagers today are more sexually active and prone to early pregnancy. Teenage pregnancy is seen as a serious social problem resulting from early sexual activity. The document examines causes of teenage pregnancy like lack of education, as well as ways to reduce rates through abstinence, contraceptives, and communication. It aims to increase awareness of the issue and provide guidance to teenagers, parents, and communities.

The document discusses the Youth Offending Risk Screening Tool (YORST), which is used to systematically evaluate the likelihood of a child or young person reoffending. It identifies high-risk individuals to provide targeted interventions. A pilot of the YORST was conducted with 465 young offenders across two police districts. Preliminary results found the tool provided consistent risk screening and guided appropriate responses. Next steps include a national rollout and further research to validate the tool's predictive ability and reliability.

This document summarizes key findings from an NSPCC study on child abuse and neglect in the UK over the past 30 years. The study compared data from 2009 interviews of 1,761 18-24 year olds and 2,275 11-17 year olds to data from 1998-1999 interviews. Key findings include:
1) Around one in four 18-24 year olds reported experiences of severe physical violence, sexual abuse, or neglect in childhood.
2) Levels of physical, sexual, and verbal abuse reported by 18-24 year olds have declined over the past 30 years.
3) Almost one in five 11-17 year olds reported being physically attacked, raped/sex
The NSPCC is a UK charity that aims to prevent cruelty to children. In 2014, they reached out to 278,700 children through school programs. They work to prevent, protect from, and help children recover from abuse. For £600, the NSPCC School's Service can educate one class of primary school children about abuse signs and where to seek help. They also run campaigns to help parents keep children safe.
The document summarizes Latvia's efforts to prevent youth crime through multi-disciplinary cooperation and social inclusion programs. This document discusses juvenile delinquency and youth crime. It notes that juveniles are typically defined as those who have not reached the age of adulthood or majority. Student ages 13-15 are the main contributors to juvenile crime. There are four major risk factors related to juvenile crime: substance abuse, neglect/abuse, parental issues, and personal issues. Efforts to prevent juvenile delinquency include empowering youth, providing educational and recreational opportunities in schools and communities, and promoting strong family relationships and parental supervision. Both preventative and rehabilitative approaches are important to address the issue.

The MAP Study: Knowledge Creation & Knowledge TranslationChristine Wekerle
The MAP Study is a longitudinal epidemiological study that follows 345 youth ages 14-17 who are involved with child protective services in Toronto over 2.5 years. It aims to describe their health, development trajectories, and examine factors linking maltreatment to outcomes. Initial findings show MAP youth experience higher rates of physical and sexual abuse, emotional and physical neglect compared to national averages. They also exhibit poorer physical health, more residential instability, lower school achievement, less employment, higher substance use, earlier risky sexual behavior, and greater depression and suicidal ideation. Caseworkers' ratings of youth functioning did not predict later suicide attempts, but youth self-reports of ongoing suicidal thoughts did.
Assessing Youth Early In The Juvenile Justice SystemLiz Adams
This study evaluated the impact of a juvenile mental health court (JMHC) in Colorado on recidivism rates among youth compared to other probation programs. The study found youth who participated in the JMHC program had significantly lower recidivism rates during and after probation than youth in other probation programs or intensive supervised probation without access to the JMHC. Youth who successfully completed the JMHC had an average time to reoffending of over 1 year and significant reductions in violent/aggressive and property offenses. The study provides support that JMHC programs may help reduce recidivism among justice-involved youth with mental health needs.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.
it describes the bony anatomy including the femoral head , acetabulum, labrum . also discusses the capsule , ligaments . muscle that act on the hip joint and the range of motion are outlined. factors affecting hip joint stability and weight transmission through the joint are summarized.

3. The research
Fully qualitative approach, using Straussian
Grounded Theory approach - 'what happens in
today's practice with children and young
people displaying a range of SBPs?’
Interviews, 44 practitioners across the UK – YOTs,
Children’ Social Care Service, private practice (P1
– P44)
Documents, 67 Child Protection Procedures from
LSCBs and agencies in the UK – sexually active
young people, young people displaying sexually
harmful behaviour, allegations arising from sexually
active young people under the age of 18 (D1 –
D67)
GT Analysis – a series of coding activities (open,
axial and selective) and constant comparison

to guide or to punish?
5. It is fundamental, in the first instance, to
understand this. We work with children, and
some of them are very young, as young as 3 or 4
years old. Others might be older, but unlike an
adult, they don't have the capability to
understand the consequences resulting from their
behaviour. You have to get this right, then only
you can understand the nature of our work with
young people - Participant 17

7. Rethinking
everything
One thing that people always get it wrong;
we do not punish children for what they
have done. We don't tell what is wrong,
what is right. That's not essentially what we
do. Instead, we provide basis for them, to
learn pro-social behaviours and to un-learn
from what's considered as ‘inappropriate
behaviours’ - Participant 16

effect of abuse to the victim(s)to guide
9. Where do we go from here?
... It is therefore important that reports of
apparently abusive/inappropriate sexual
behaviour by a child or young person are taken
seriously and responded to appropriately. The
earlier the identification of the sexually abusive
behaviour, the greater the potential for
intervention before it has the potential to develop
further and become more entrenched – D20
