HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a retrovirus that causes AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) by attacking the immune system, leading to severe health complications. The epidemic has had a significant global impact, with millions affected, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, and ongoing challenges in late diagnosis, stigma, and access to treatment. Despite advances in medications that manage the virus, there is still no cure, and awareness and understanding about transmission methods are crucial in combating misconceptions.
