Research Paper On West Indies Cricket
West Indies cricket, the envy of the world for decades past because of its exiting and brilliant
batsmen, fast and furious fast bowlers, and its acrobatic fielders, and undisputed champions of the
world for 19 years up to 1995, is now at rock bottom and looks like getting deeper and deeper.
In fact, based on the events of this week, and after all that have gone on in the past 15 or 20 years,
a good bet is that the West Indies days are numbered.
Top Eight Teams
Although it is common knowledge that the West Indies have lost 80 of 132 Test matches while
winning only 14 against the top eight teams since losing 5 0 to England in 2000 and 5 0 to
Australia in 2000 1, and have failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy while Bangladesh have

The West Indies players, however, would be comfortable if they were to be, as they are now,
subsidised by the cricket world from the money earned by the money spinners elsewhere in the
world.
Is it right for the non West Indies player to run around in the sun day after day for days at a time
and then sit down and twiddle his thumbs, with nothing to do or eat, just looking on from the
outside?
No, it is not right, it was never right, and it can never be right.
The West Indies Cricket Boardhas made many mistakes in their time, but this is not one. This is
one to produce for West Indies cricket. This is one to ensure that what is happening now never
happens again. This is one for West Indies cricket.
According To Merit
West Indies cricket is not the West Indies team alone. It is the West Indies teams and West Indies
cricketers, all West Indian cricketers. And every penny belongs to the West Indies to be added up,
divided up fairly and equitably, and to be distributed to the players according to merit and on value

Stern Leadership And Questionable Ethics
Stern Leadership and Questionable Ethics
Jeff Bezos, the CEO of the company Amazon, is a stern and old school leader. He whips Amazon
into shape by utilizing an almost slave like employment group. Those close to him have been
quoted saying that his drive and assertiveness come before any other leadership styles. Bezos can
be compared to the football coach of the business world. Bezos primary focus is improving
performance of his employees and company while leaving other important issues such as personal
and customer service issues the weak link in his empire.
Employee Management
Amazon uses a system called the Anytime Feedback Tool which allows employees to rate their
coworkers, and at the end of the year those who are in the lowest rankings are let go. For this
reason, people have a great deal of incentive to outperform others. A woman who was being
treated for breast cancer was told by a manager that she was on a performance improvement plan
which ultimately meant that she was going to get fired. Another woman suffering from thyroid
cancer was given a low performance rating by her coworkers because while she was gone the
coworkers got a great deal of work done, and she had done none.
Employee Tenure
Most employees last in Amazon for less than two years. As Amazon is a fierce and competitive
market at every level. The structure of the company has been described as a gladiator culture and
many who have left the company would never dream of returning. Even after leaving

Native American Sign Language Essay
Native American Sign Language Very basic, elementary and logical characteristics made the Native
American Sign Language the world s most easily learned language. It was America s first and only
universal language. The necessity for intercommunication between Indian tribes having different
vocal speech developed gesturespeech or sign language (Clark; pg. 11). Although there is no
record or era dating the use of sign language, American Indian people have communicated with
Indian Sign Language for thousands of years. The signs illustrated ideas and the language
conveyed a message. Many of the simplistic nonverbal gestures that were used by the Indian tribes
across the United States are still in use around the world today. Most of... Show more content on

Many Indians with college and university training can speak better English than they can sign talk.
Native American Sign Language was the first universal language produced by people. Every record
of the landing of Columbus on North American soil, tells of how he and his group communicated
with the Indians using sign language. The same is also true of other explorers that came to this
country. Lewis and Clark communicated successfully with the tribes of the west during their
exploration efforts. In the 17th century, the language of sign was so well understood throughout the
western part of the country that there was little difficulty in conversations being carried on between
tribes, traders, and mountain men. They could easily communicate with one another, even though
neither understood a word of the other s dialect at that time.
Basic Native American sign language is easy to learn; it is much easier to learn Indian signing than
it is to learn a spoken language. The combination of meaning and movement in signing, allows you
to learn the meaning of a gesture, while you visualize the movement. One important factor to
remember is that eighty five percent of the Native American Sign Language was done with the right
hand; this system kept the communication process very simple

Human Trafficking And Human Smuggling
Although often mistaken to be the same, human trafficking and human smuggling are two separate
illegal acts. Human trafficking is the crime against the person, while smuggling is the criminality
against the state (Salt, 2000). The voluntary act of a person to transport trafficking victims across a
border for monetary compensation refers to human smuggling. Although commonly performed for
financial gain, sometimes individuals smuggle people to reunite them with their families. This can
include the defilement of one or several countries regulations through trickery by the use of fake
documents.
Smuggling is usually not a forced act and it often includes the consent of the individual(s) being
smuggled. A large number of people who have assistance with entering America illegally are
considered to be smuggled rather than trafficked (Human Smuggling and Trafficking Center, 2005).
However, along with the unsafe traveling conditions, it is not unusual for those being smuggled to
face physical or sexual abuse. It is also possible for a smuggling situation to turn into a trafficking
ordeal. As opposed to smuggling, human trafficking does not necessitate the transportation of
persons across the border, rather it exists nationally with victims being American citizens (Salt,
2000).
Human Trafficking Laws

servitude shall exist within the U.S. (TVPA, 2000). This concept became the

Evolution Of Science Classes At School
Being raised in a Christian family, I have attended Catholic school my whole life. That being
said, I have grown up studying Bible stories since before I can remember. Probably the most
prominent and well known of these stories in Christian theology is, of course, the story of
creation. To this day, I still remember how the story goes. On the first day, God created the earth
and daylight. For six days after, he continued creation and included the sky, the ocean, plants,
animals, and humans. Growing up, I always believed in a literal interpretation of this story, and
thought everything was created within an exact week. However, as I got older, I learned about
evolutionin science classes at school. I soon discovered that many of the... Show more content on

While a large number of people in the scientific field strongly believe in evolution, a group of
people known as creationists and creation scientists seem to disagree. Creationism is the belief that
the biblical record of primeval history in Genesis 1 11 is factual, historical, and clearly
understandable and, therefore, that all things were created and made in six literal days (Morris).
Creationists believe evolution completely contradicts with their religious beliefs; therefore, they do
not agree with it. Creation science is a branch of creationism that focuses on providing scientific
reasoning behind creationism. Creation scientist Jack Wellman describes evolution saying it
presents a world view without God and that there is only survival of the fittest and that there is no
real purpose for mankind. In between evolutionists and creationists falls theistic evolutionists, who
believe in both creation by God and evolution. Since these people interpret the Bible in a
metaphoric sense rather than literal, they believe that religious teachings about creation do not
conflict with evolutionary concepts.
For the most part, evolutionists and theistic evolutionists, aka people who believe in evolution, all
seem to agree that evolution should be taught in US public schools. Interestingly enough, I have not
yet found someone who is pro evolution and does not think it should be discussed in the classroom.
However, there are creation scientists who think

Essay on The Artwork of William Hogarth
The Artwork of William Hogarth
The artwork of William Hogarth is influenced greatly by social factors and the culture of eighteenth
century England. In many of his works, Hogarth satirizes English society, rich and poor alike. His
paintings and engravings depict the society of which he lived, with the costumes and ways of life of
the times all shown in his work. Much of the time he is being satirical, exaggerating some of the
faults of the people, other times he is being bitingly realistic in his views. It seems no one is safe
from his caricatures, from the lords and ladies, to slaves, servants, prostitutes, criminals and the
poor.
Overall, his work shows the culture of a broad cross section of the people of England during this
time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Hogarth himself wrote, Beer Street and Gin Lane were done when the dredfull [sic]
consequences of gin drinking was at its height. (Webster 1978) The prints were published partly
to support the 1751 Gin Act. In an earlier work, Strolling Actresses in a Barn, Hogarth also
referred to another Act, the 1737 Act against strolling players. The Act is depicted on the left
side of the engraving showing that the performance will be the women s last. Social references
include the fact that there were many people of African descent in England at the time, as is
shown by the servant and the black actress in this print. The man peeping in at the top right

Wbs (Work Breakdown Structure)
Explain the content of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and discuss its role in project
management and the connection to the organisation.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a tool that is used to define the work elements of a project
and identify its entire scope. It is the map of the project which identifies all elements of the
project and allows managers to keep track and control of it. It is made of a hierarchy which
facilitates the evaluation of cost, time and performance at all levels of the project life cycle and
organization. The structure illustrates the smaller units and allows for adaptation and quick
communication if there a problems which need to be addressed. Definitions of each task should be

(Gray amp; Larson 2008, 92)
The project scope has been explained in regards to the WBS, it has been explained in order to
elaborate the project scope, herby going onto the project priorities.
The project priorities are in regards what should be prioritised in the project. What is to be taking
in regards in terms of cost is (budget), time (schedule), and performance (scope) of the project.
What is important to emphasise on here is how these three correlate with one another. In a case
where time is important it would be necessary to perform faster, which will prevent a quality
outcome, hence lead to reduced costs. The importance of a project manager is to control the trade
offs between budgets and scope. The project managers functions as a link between upper
management and project customers. The project manager needs to have keen understanding of
project scope in order to fulfil the requirements for the customers and how prioritize the demands.
The customer can also add requirements and then the manager needs to prioritize the requirements
in regards to the project. An important method is to use the priority matrix to identify what is worth
prioritizing more. The constrain is stick and have to be obliged to the first agreements made
between the customer, this includes, the specifications and scope of the project or the budget. The
enhance includes time and costs. The enhance is an essential factor seeing where to emphasize on

Climate Change Is A Hot
Assignment 3: Climate Change Global climate change is a hot (pun intended) topic in today s
modern, industrialized world. This topic however is crowded with lots of baseless opinions and
politicized debates. Even when observing the facts we see that this coin is most definitely two
sided, the information can be and is interpreted in a number of ways depending on which side of
the issue you stand. Within this paper I am going to examine both sides of argument with sources
from two films, Are We Changing Planet Earth, Global Warming: Hype or Hazard? and a book,
This Borrowed Earth: 15 Lesson from the worst environmental disasters around the world by
Robert Emmet Hernan. The first side I m going to discuss is the Pro side. That is, the side with
supporters claiming global climate changeis both real, likely anthropological and must be addressed
immediately. The arguments on this side tend to observe measurable changes in our environment in
the past several hundred to several thousand years, observing previous trends and attempting to
match them with future expectations, then comparing them with current realities. The sourced film
Are We Changing Planet Earth goes into quite a bit of depth on these particular aspects. Traveling
around the world, they inspected what were mostly relatively recent events and how they affected
the people and animals. One such example was in Mongolia where the farming industry is rapidly

Joseph J. Ellis attempts to analyze historic events during the revolutionary era for greater
significance in his Founding Brothers. He achieves this by exploring the long term and short term
effects of the event and scrutinizing each detail to observe how it affected the development of the
American experiment (Ellis 47). Specifically, he interprets these events with a political ideology to
demonstrate how political events during the revolutionary era have affected the course of American

politicians and other politically focused people. Ellis intends to establish that the key achievements

Advantages Of Traditional Market Research Methods
Lisel Douglas Argumentative Essay 2014 11 04 (Title) There is no doubt that traditional market
research methods have proven themselves to be valuable in helping businesses to determine the
next steps in, and governmental organizations study the population over which it governs.
Traditional market research methods such as surveys in person, mail, telephone, and now,
online, have proven to be reliable means of gathering information about a market. Qualitative
methods, like focus groups, and in depth interviews have also been accepted as reliable means
for collecting a certain kind of information about a market. However, according to the AAPOR,
we are entering a new era, where traditional survey research may play a less dominant role.
Businesses and organizations may look more to Big Data and social media research for answers
to their questions. This paper is not a discussion of the merits of traditional methods vs. newer
methods, from an either/or perspective. The intention is to explain why social media as a
potentially reliable market research method, should not be dismissed due perceived pitfalls. There
are many areas of concern, but this paper will address only three: measurement challenges, wrong
answers, and quality. The AAPOR states that, the reasons to consider social media in public opinion
and survey research are no different than those of any alternative method as essentially the ultimate
concern of market research is answering research questions, and

Abolishment
Abolishment of the death penalty in America Every year, many prisoners on death row have to
choose their last meal before they face death. It is a very serious decision for inmates to make
because it is the last thing they got to savor and enjoy since they are moments away from
execution. Prisoners on death row, pay with their lives for the crimes they have committed.
Instead of granting life sentences to prisoners, federal courts punish prisoners by executing them.
It is a long and difficult decision for states to make, but based on the unjust manner cases are
presented regarding prisoners of color, there is a large number of innocent prisoners put to death
row. This form of punishment is cruel and unusual. It is cruel because it is a barbaric punishment
that has no place in the 21st century. It is also unusual since America is the only 1st world nation
that still uses the death penalty. The death penalty is also given to racial minorities the most. The
issue of racial bias is greatly present in capital punishmentcases. The issue of putting someone with
a mental disability on death row is always a possibility. Although, the Supreme Court has ruled
executions of the mentally ill illegal, there stands a chance that the execution will end up
happening. Considering all the possibilities of racial injustice and mental health stigma, the death

The Importance Of High School Student Athletes
Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic
courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students
who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to
do so, for most athletes, high schoolsports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea
that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost.
The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb
jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these
athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of
them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what
you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play
Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just
handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the
same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important
aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70
s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of
having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers,
rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only
hurts the students in the long run.
For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is
spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are
not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze
by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for
failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while
they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things.

Balanced Budget Amendment
As we discussed and read about this week in our class, the topic of the US Budget and how, why
and what should we do about it has become a topic with many views and opinions. The United
States of America currently holds over 16 Trillion dollars in debt based on our governments
spending practices for the last ten years. Two wars, numerous fiscal collapses and cliffs, a bubble
popped housing market, looming medical care costs from a socialized healthcare law and a
recession have caused the government to acquire enormous amounts of debt. This debt with caused
by what seems to be from irresponsible spending on both the Legislative and the Executive

Proponents of these amendments also that running deficits over the long term or persistent deficits
can be dangerous as well. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of
consumer s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private
capital goods . This is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the
future. Growing Federal Debt can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of
crises can occur when debt levels become so large in relation to the economy s output that the
government has difficulty selling it. Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the
governments ability to repay its debt and refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced
purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often leading to inflation, reduction in government
services and programs and increased economic hardship on its citizens. There are several good
examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and Greece. The US saw a version of
this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt and its credit worthiness reduced
its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at lower interests rates.
A federal Balanced Budget amendment based loosely on those instituted by the States of this
country has many benefits. One such advantage

The Bombing Of The Uss Maine
February 15th, 1898, the USS Maine was hit with a mine as it sat in the Havana Harbor. There is
large speculation to whether that is the truth or not. Over the years it is still a topic of debate as
of what caused the explosion. Some believe that the Spaniards did it, others believe it was a
clumsy mistake of misplaced ammo, others believe it was a spontaneous coal fire that caught a
box of ammunition on fire. No matter the cause, the loss of the ship and 260 of her crew was
devastating to America at the time and led to strong feelings of dislike towards the Spaniards,
leading to the Spanish American war of 1898. The theories behind the explosion of the USS Maine
is mainly focused around two ideas, there are many angles that can be viewed for the cause of this
disaster and its fueling of the war that will be examined in this paper.
The Spanish American war was a short war in which America won in three months, two weeks and
four days. The fights were extremely unbalanced as America dominated Spain in all of the battles.
At Manila Bay in the Philippines the American fleet, under command of Commodore Dewey,
destroyed the Spanish fleet and took over the Philippines on May 1st, in which total America only
had several wounded soldiers at the end of the battle. In June, American forces landed outside of the
Cuban city of Santiago where their heavy woolen winter uniforms caused them to sweat profusely
in the intense Spanish heat. Amidst the heat they re provisions consisted of

The Realization Of Homelessness In America
Could you imagine not knowing where to go? Could you imagine each and every night you have
to find the nearest bench, and you have to call that bench your bed? You ll have to decide which
public place you can go that will allow you to clean yourself up; when you re hungry, you implore
people for change so you can feed your empty stomach or you eat out of nearest garbage can. You
have to come to the realization that many people in society don t understand homelessness. and
wonder if the circumstances in homelessness will ever change. Today there is an estimate of 1.6
million homeless people living in America, of that 1.6 million, 1 in 30 kids across America have

declined more than in 45 other states, according to the United States Housing and Urban

There must be more organizations such as, Covenant house which is an association that helps

the homeless population will continue to drop drastically. Local businesses and churches can take

Similarities And Differences Between Starbucks And Walmart
Every business has its own business strategy which leads the company towards success and
accomplishment. (Stankeviciute et al., 2012, p. 1200). The following analysis will examine the
similarities and differences between Starbucks and Walmart in regards to people, profit, and planet.
People
Legal Compliance. Determining the relationship between a company and people can be evaluated
in several ways. Legal compliance issues not only provide powerful insight into an organization s
ethical business practices, but also how these engagements affect people within the company. In
Chou vs. Starbucks, it was determined that Starbucks misclassified shift supervisors as
nonexempt customer service employees in violation of California law enabling supervising
employees to share in tip pools with non management baristas. (Brody et al., 2008). Here, a
significant amount of employees were prevented from receiving fair compensation in this tip
sharing model. Many employees are reliant upon tips as part of their compensation and allowing
managers with higher pay rates to also share tips diminishes the ability of baristas to earn a
proper wage. Starbucks has also struggled to comply with tax codes as seen through its failure to
pay the appropriate amount of taxes owed based on profits over a fourteen year period. (Brody et
al., 2008; Shaheen, 2012). Not only did Starbucks consciously engaged in tax avoidance, but also
did so consistently for over a decade. Tax dollars are used to promote the

Analysis Of The Haunted Mesa
This book, The Haunted Mesa, was written by author Louis L Amour, under the publishing
company Bantam Books. It was published in New York in 1987 and the story of the book takes
place around this time as well. The significance of the title is to hint at the central idea of the
story, which revolves around a mesa in the deserts of southern Utah. The place is very odd,
having bizarre occurrences described by both the main character and another character in the
story. These occurrences advance the plot astronomically. Not only this, the setting is what pulls
the reader into the book, intriguing and making the reader curious for more. This book has three
main characters, Mike Raglan, Erik Hokart, and a strange young woman named Kawasi. Mike
Raglan is a keenly intelligent person, as well as determined, which is what drives the plot
onward. Erik Hokart is also very intelligent, but also wealthy, which enables him to inadvertently
start the conflict of the story. The young woman Kawasi is a strange woman with brown skin and
a heavy accent. She is a very odd addition to the story as she is alien to the worldin Utah. Of the
three characters, Erik Hokart has the largest influence on the plot, being that he is the reason there
is a conflict. In addition, the main character, Mike Raglan, learns a tremendous amount from his
experiences in this book as he tries to remedy the conflict. He learns about alternate dimensions
and worlds and new people from these worlds. Overall, as he learns

The Importance Of Culture On My Culture
My culture is the Netflix and/or binge watching culture. This culture has a variety of different
elements that are within it. These elements each have their own importance to how they impact my
culture. Also, without any of these elements it would change the culture completely.
To begin, the first element is the values of my culture. Values are the principles or standards that
society uses to make judgments. One of the values associated with Netflix is modification. Netflix
is always being modified so that the viewers could see newly released shows as well as movies.
Movies and TV shows are always being produced as well as what is trending in the country and
world. Another value is variation, this allows subscribers to have an unlimited number of movies
and TV shows to watch. On the Netflix website, the values they used to convey themselves was
judgment, productivity, creativity, intelligence, honesty, communication, selflessness, reliability
and passion. I think these all represent the company very well.
The next element to my culture is beliefs. Beliefs are the opinions or theories that people accept.
Some of the beliefs associated with the beliefs of Netflix are the 5 star rating system that is used
to measure the quality of the show. The higher number of stars the better the movie/show should
be. This is also based on a consensus so even if it has a high rating you still might not like the
movie/show and vis versa. Another belief is that Netflix is more for watching movies not necessary
TV shows like Hulu offers. Some other TV/movie online media streaming websites are: Amazon
Prime, Hulu, Sling TV, HBO Now, etc.
Knowledge is the ability to be informed and understand concepts to help people through life.
There are several types of knowledge someone needs to understand when they use Netflix one of
which is how to use the technology. From how to properly run a computer to how to run Netflix
and navigate through the app. Another is the ability to understand the language the show is in, and
if it s not offered in someone s first language then you can put the subscripts on so you can
understand it. Its also important to know release dates or dates that shows will be removed from
Netflix.

Morgan Freeman Mentor
Tennessee born actor Morgan Freeman often plays the role of a mentor or father figure. This can
be seen in numerous films starring Freeman, including, An Unfinished Life, Last Knights, Lean
on Me, The Magic of Belle Isle, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In all of these films, he is a
mentor to at least one person who has lost a father. However, although he has been pigeonholed as
the mentor, Freeman is capable of portraying a wide variety of characters, and demonstrates this in
the aforementioned films as well as others. In Last Knights, London has Fallen, Dreamcatcher, and
Lean on Me, Freeman s characters Lord Bartok, Allan Trumball, Colonel Curtis, and Joe Clark are
strong leaders who refuse to submit to opposition. Although these characters... Show more content

Uncle Remus from Song of the South, with the noticeable quirk of pronouncing the letter r with

English suggested by the grammatical structure of his lines. He maintains a calm countenance
throughout most of the film, showing that, like Red, he is acclimated to his circumstances, but his
tone is jollier, reflecting Hoke s optimism in contrast to Red s more solemn

Stephen Dunn s Poem Sweetness
After reading the Elements of Poetry and the six poems it becomes clear that there are signs of
the fourteen elements within the six poems. The Element of Poetry is what has helped me
understand the fourteen elements within poetry. The first and most important method of
analyzing a poem is look at the way the poem stanzas are structured, which are the series of lines
within a poem. For example a poem with two lines per stanza is known as a couplet, where a
poem with eight lines per stanza is known as an octave. The structure is what helps sets up the
overall organization of the lines and the patterns of sound within a poem. Take Stephen Dunn poem
Sweetness for example, his poem is made up of ten stanzas and within each of the stanzas there is
three line making his poem s structure a tercert. Another example of a poem s structure is a poem
written by Charles Wright, in his poem Clear Nights he structures his poem within three stanzas that
has four lines in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a simile can be found in the 8th tercet of Stephen Dunn poem Sweetness where he

long enough. Often a sweetness comes as if on loan, stay just long enough is a simile comparing
the sweetness of love to that of a loan and the length of time they both stay is just long enough.
Another example is in The Heaven of Animals by James L. Dickey, he begins his first stanza
with (Here they are. The soft eyes open.), Then he leads into a metaphor (If they have lived in a
wood. It is a wood. If they have lived on plains it is grass, rolling under their feet forever) by

Compare and Contrast Essay of Rikki Tikki Tavi
Many people assume that the book and movie of the same story are always very similar, but they
are incorrect. In my comparison of the short story Rikki tikki tavi by Rudyard Kipling and the
movie of Rikki tikki tavi, I found them to be rather different. There were many minor differences,
but the three main topics in the short story that clearly differentiate it from the movie are the
setting, the character traits, and the use of humor. The setting in the movie differs from the setting
in the short story in a few ways. The setting in the movie dives into larger detail in many of the
scenes such as in the beginning flood scene. The flood scene setting in the movie reveals an eerie,
strong, storm with a flood that resembles a river and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning, the character traits in the movie differ from those portrayed in the
short story. The ways in which they differ include the various switched roles of characters and
other aspects including age and clothing. One of the switched roles is right in the beginning of
the movie when the father lifts up Rikki from the sand, whereas in the short story the mother
picks him up. Another switched role would be when Darzee s wife explains what happened to
their baby egg that was eaten by Nag, but in the short story Darzee does the explaining. One last
switched role I came across was how Nag is the instigator who wanted to take over the garden, but
in the story it is Nagaina. Some other differences include the age of Teddy and the clothing of the
family. In the short story, Rudyard Kiplingcreates Teddy as a young toddler, using words such as
nursery to describe the room where he sleeps, but in the movie Teddy appears to be almost ten
years old with his fancy clothing and tall height. Surprisingly, the family in the movie wears very
nice, neat clothing. This is surprising because of the way Rudyard Kipling describes the setting.
With sand, dirt, and a garden, you would presume that it would be a humid climate, which would
result in the wearing of sandals and shorts. However, in the movie

In Yeh Hsien , towards the end of the story, the character, King of T o han, is brought up. This
merely references back to the Han Dynasty (Yeh Hsien). From my knowledge of this time period,
China was ruled under Kings kings who are the figureheads of society. As a result, the ruler
presents a visual reference that T o han is the king and can force Yeh Hsien to marry him (Yeh
Hsien 12). In respect to Rhodopis, the realistic characteristic that makes forms her identity as an
Egyptian relates to the pharaoh. Once again, the pharaoh is a symbolic reference to the Egyptian
society and plays a figurehead and ruler under that particular society more importantly, the pharaoh
even mentions All the gods and goddesses give us pharaohs something so we know who s the
perfect wife for us (Egyptian Princess, Rhodopis). In this Egyptian society where pharaohs
dominate, Rhodopis is pronounced queen representing the wife of the all mighty powerful pharaoh.
When the status of the two figureheads are the main interest, one may notice that the rulers under
the time period in history completes the picture of identifying the princesses into their ethnic

The Origin Of The Lolita Subcultures
Finding out what to wear in the morning is a part of everyone s morning routine, but when it
comes to fashion trends what you wear appears to become more important. Reading magazines
and watching celebrates on the red carpet are a few ways in which people find out what is
popular to dress in something that is will make them fit in and be up to date with the fashion of
the time. In the other hand there are people who do exactly the opposite, more specifically those
within the Lolita subculture. The Lolita subculture is a Japanese fashion subculture known for
its Victorian period clothing style corsets, petticoats, and lace. What makes this fashion style
unique is its similarities with 19th century girl and doll dresses (AdГЁle Hardy Bernal, 2011, p.
20), but Lolitas were not dressing up in Victorian clothes without a reason. The origins of the
Lolita subculture can be traced back to as far as the late 1980 s. Similar to the start of the British
Punk subculture, in the 1980 s Japan went through a drastic economic change referred to as the
Bubble Burst or the burst of the Bubble Economy. During the time of the Bubble Burst several
people were laid off from their jobs, women became stay at home mothers, and overall the youth
lost hope for a successful future in Japan. The state of the economy caused anger, disappointment.

Greed And Greed In The Gift Of The Magi
Greed and Charity
Greed is a selfish desire for more than is needed. Charity is the kindhearted goodwill toward or
love of humanity. Both terms are used to create central themes for the four stories we read in our
english class. All of these stories include characters that present greed or charity. In The Gift of the
Magi, the wife and the husband both gave up their prized possessions to get their significant other
a gift. Since the couple were poor and wanted to satisfy each other with a wonderful gift, they
had to give up what they never thought they would have before. I believe this shows charity in
their relationship. They both wanted the best of the best for each other and kindheartedly gave
up whatever they had. Della, the wife, asked someone to buy her long, silky, brown hair. Will
you buy my hair? asked Della. I buy hair, said Madame. Take yer hat off and let s have a sight at
the looks of it. As you can see, the wife sold her hair to buy her husband a gift which was a watch
band for his watch. The husband then revealed to his wife that he sold his watch to buy her a
comb. In The Fisherman and His Wife, both greed and charity are presented. The fisherman
consisted of a lot of charity. He was willing to give his wife whatever she wanted. The fisherman
s wife had so much greed. She wanted more than she already had. She was so greedy that she
thought of herself to be just like God. The couple first owned a pig stye of a house. From this,

Racial Stereotyping

Walking the halls at school was an overall awkward situation as I attended a predominantly white
private school. It was not uncommon for my peers to make jests and snide comments about the
oddity of our relationship. I vividly remember the stunned expressions on the faces of my

accepting of the news, I was warned to not mention my new relationship to my grandfather who

Recrystallization Lab Report
The solid organic compounds that we use in reactions or that come from natural sources tend to
have impurities. One way for us to remove these impurities and obtain our desired product is by
using a technique called recrystallization. Our goal in this experiment is to prove that
recrystallization is a method to purify a solidorganic compound with contaminants. In Part A we
will purify acetanilide by recrystallization and in Part B we will distinguish the best way to select
the solventrequired to recrystallize the solute. Removing the solid impurities of an organic
compound involves a series of steps. The first step is to dissolve the solid in the minimum amount
of the appropriate hot solvent. Crystallization takes advantage of the fact that most solids are more
soluble in a hot than in a cold solvent. We need a solute that is soluble in... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, if a solid is first dissolved in an amount of hot solvent that does not dissolve it when
cold, crystals should form when the hot solution is allowed to cool. The second step is using hot
vacuum filtration, which removes the insoluble impurities from the hot mixture. The acetanilide
given to us had two impurities, one soluble and one insoluble in the hot water. The insoluble
impurity can be removed after the acetanilide is dissolved in the hot solvent and filtered. Most of
the solvent may be evaporated from the crystals as the vacuum pulls the air through the crystals
on the funnel, but the acetanilide will still contain the more soluble impurity. It is important to let
the solution cool slowly in order for the molecules to line up in an organized way and form the
crystals. We also need to make sure that the filter flask in clamped and that we use the appropriate
tubes for the vacuum as well as the appropriate sized filter paper. After letting the solution cool, we
begin the process of recrystallization in order to remove the soluble impurity.

Capitalism is a very complex system that is discuss by many authors, scholars and economists.
Robert Heilbroner is a famous American economist who creatively discusses the system of

and differentiate capital with wealth, which facilitate the reader to understand the basic definition
of capitalism. He then illustrates the most crucial aspect of capitalism, that is, the two realms of

Society of Perfect Liberty as: Every man, as long as he does not violate the laws of justice, is left
perfectly free to pursue his own interest his own way, and to bring both his industry and capital into
competition with those of any other man or order of men. The sovereign [we can read the state ] is
completely discharged from a duty, in the attempting to perform which he must always be exposed
to innumerable delusions, and for the proper performance of which no human wisdom or
knowledge could ever be sufficient the duty of superintending the industry of private people, and of
directing it towards the employments most suitable to the interest of the society (Heilbroner 53).
According to Smith, the government should deal with their courts, police forces, and jails; and the
necessity to maintain what we would call the national infrastructure, explicitly including education

Prescription Drug Abuse In California
How does the use of prescription drug influence high schoolers in California?
Introduction
Prescription drugs are influencing kids in the high schools of California, causing many negative
effects in the body of kids, unlike other cities in the U.S and Europe where the number of reported
cases are lower. In Southern California the use of prescription drugs has skyrocketed, In 2014 the
number of cases involving the prescription drug opioid, a popular pain killer, consisted of 11,638
as opposed to 5,753 cases in 2014 according to the California Department of Public Health. The
number of cases has more than doubled in the past years and there are many programs that are

1984 Manipulation Of Love Essay
Edmund Burke once said, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and
reasoning as hate. In other words, when one becomes enveloped in the emotion of hate,
similarly to that of love, it can alter one s thought and ability to make decisions. Love and hate
are the two most powerful emotions and are seen at the core of humanity; however, it is ironic
that such strong emotions can be so easily manipulated. George Orwell considers this idea in his
novel 1984 and reveals the relationship between love and hate in a dystopian society. Throughout
the novel, it is clear to see how one is able to gain love and power based on the manipulation of
hate and fear; this can be seen through the analysis of the Party s views of Emmanuel... Show more

For instance, right before Winston is sent to Room 101, O Brian tells him: Never again will you
be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or curiosity, or courage, or

ourselves (211). Here, Winston is facing the consequences of his hatred for Big Brother.
Ironically, the Party intends to torture Winston until he feels nothing but love for big brother.
Furthermore, just after Winston hears that Oceania has won the war against Eurasia, he gazes up
at the enormous face of Big Brother and realizes: Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind
of smile was hidden beneath the dark mustache...Two gin scented tears trickled down the sides of
his nose. But it was alright, everything was alright, the struggle was finished. He had won the
victory over himself. He loved Big Brother (245). By using torture to manipulate Winston s hatred
for Big Brother, the Party is able purify his brain, leaving nothing but sorrow and repent for what
he had done. The only love he feels is that towards Big Brother. Thus, giving the Party the
satisfaction of power through the dictation of love and

Look at all the memorials in Washington, D.C. You can see valiant, white memorials with heroic

The Patriot And Avenger Weapons Systems
Military forces deploy to vastly different environments across the globe. However, two of the most
important discriminating factors which shape how operations are conducted are acceptance and
protection of US forces by the local population. Operational environments are roughly sorted into
two major categories. Permissive environments are locations where the host nation has control of its
territory and supports US operations. Non permissive environments refer to locations with hostile
or uncertain local response. Although the weapons systems and sensors do not change from one
location to the next, the environment surrounding a deployed Air Defense unit has a significant
impact on how it is best operated. The Patriot and Avenger weapons systems clearly demonstrate the
disparate considerations that must be taken for implementation of each asset when employed in a
permissive and non permissive environment respectively.
Employment and Operations of the Patriot Missile System are dramatically impacted by its host
environment. When the a unit is deployed to a permissive environment, treaties and political
agreements often restrict exactly where the Patriot battery can be emplaced and what assets it will
cover. In a non permissive environment, the Patriot unit can position itself in the optimal position
as long as it is adequately defensible and nests within the higher commander s plan. A second
major difference for employment is mobility. It is typical for Patriot to be

Treatment of Death During the Renaissance and in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is arguably the most well known and well read play in history.
With its passionate and realistic treatment of universal themes of love, fate, war, and death, it s not
difficult to see why. However, most people don t realize that there are several versions of the play,
each with their own unique additions and/or changes to the plot, dialogue, and characters. After
thumbing through the texts located here on this website, you can see even at a glance the distinct
differences between the versions of Romeo and Juliet. This essay will explore how people dealt

The reactions of the Friar to Juliet s death in the Lamentable Tragedie, however, show a difference
of theology toward death that we, in contemporary society cannot fully grasp.
Peace ho for shame, confusions care lives not,
In these confusions heaven and your selfe
Had part in this faire maide, now heaven hath all,
And all the better is it for the maid...
...And in her best array beare her to Church:
For though some nature bids us all lament,
Yet natures teares are reasons merriment (4.5)
Could it be possible that the Friar is advising the Capulets to rejoice in their sorrow for the death of
their daughter? And yet the text clearly illustrates the premise. How can this be true?
Social Background of the Period
In order to understand the meaning behind the consoling words of the Friar, we must first

What Is D Artagnan Flawed
The character D Artagnan was flawed. In the beginning, the movie portrayed D Artagnan as a
great swordsman and can defend himself if needed; he was even going to fight all of the
musketeers! The problem is that D Artagnan got himself knocked out or kidnapped quite a few
times. I understand that he is new to this musketeer life, but to be worthy of the position he
should have been less reckless and more skillful in his fighting. Another thing is when D Artagnan
and Athos got into a rough situation, he left Athos. The Musketeers motto is, all for one and one
for all, after all. Athos was proving that he is a musketeer for a reason, and he threatened D
Artagnan to leave. Athos was risking his life for the safety of the King and Queen, and the people
of France; that is what a musketeer should be doing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
D Artagnan should have either stayed and helped, or he should have sent someone to help Athos.
Instead, he left him all alone. Another character who should have gotten help was Constance.
When D Artagnan was fighting the man who had killed his father, it was apparent that Constance
had just watched because after D Artagnan won, she went and held his hand. She could have
gotten help from a musketeer or a townsperson. I understand that he, rightfully so, should be the
one to avenge his father, but for a good bit, D Artagnan looked like he was going to lose the
fight. In all, I thought that Constance was a useless person. She never helped or did anything
besides add in a little romance. On the topic of romance, the movie should have focused a bit more
on Athos and Milady de Winter s relationship. If I hadn t already known the story, I would have

The City s Statute Violate The Equal Protection Clauses
The City s statute provides,
No person over the age 10 shall use a public restroom assigned to the opposite sex of that which is
listed on the person s birth certificate. Violation of this section is a misdemeanor, punishable by law
.
The plaintiff s contention is that the city s statute violates the equal protection Clause of the 14th
Amendment. Since the classification at issue involves gender of the users of the public restrooms, it
falls within the quasi suspect categories. Therefore, this city must meet the intermediate scrutiny
standard.
This city statute requires the citizens at the age of 10 or older to use the public restroom designated

that applies to the present issue, and the City only needs to prove that its objective is important and
the statutory classification is substantially related to that objective. It is not necessary for the City
to pursue the least discriminatory means to pass the judicial review. The City will withstand

The True Meaning Of Being Happy
What is happiness? What does it mean to be happy? Is happiness real? These questions are the most
frequently asked questions that most people ask themselves. By definition, being happy is when
something is feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. But, what is the true meaning of being
happy? Many people view happinessin many different aspects. Pharrell Williamss song Happy did
just that. It tells people that they don t have to seek hard to be happy. It is within one s self.
Unlike most songs, there is no hidden message. The message is very clear. It is about maintaining a
positive state of mind despite how bad and sometimes heartbreaking events in life can be. When you

But Pharrell s Happy doesn t fall into that trap. It s an exuberant song about feeling the
possibilities in a pure, natural, and limitless state. Now, let s take a deeper look into his lyrics.
The song s first lyrics through us in a whirlpool as he begins with It might seem crazy what I m
about to say. Sunshine she s here, you can take away. I m a hot air balloon, I could go to space. With
the air, like I don t care baby by the way. Pharrell wants the listener to know how he might be
crazy but he doesn t care what you think about him. He s just going to be weird when it comes to
telling you how he feels. Next, the chorus begins with the lines Clap along if you feel like a
room without a roof, Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth. Clap along if you know
what happiness is to you, Clap along if you feel like that s what you wanna do. Here, Pharrell s
narrator is to remind the listener to continue to be happy no matter what. Also, you have no
limits so live it up. What s happiness if you re going to experience it with limitations? Now, we
ve reached the second verse. Pharrell continues to give us more tips on staying happy. Here
come bad news talking this and that, yeah. Well, give me all you got, and don t hold back, yeah.
Well, I should probably warn you I ll be just fine, yeah. No offense to you, don t waste your time.
Here s why. In these particular lyrics, he wants us to know that he is happy and he doesn t give a

Comparing Jessie Owens s Who s for the Game and Wilfred Owens Dulce Est Decorum Est
In Jessie Pope s Who s for the Game? the presentation of war is quite different to what you might
expect. This poem is a recruiting poem with the aim of encouraging men to volunteer to join the
forces. It was written at the beginning of the First World War and therefore the true disastrous
effects of the war had not been experienced. Those left behind, women, children and exempt men,
were often unaware of the true horror of the war and instead were seduced by a romantic ideal.

But you ll come on alrite .
She makes the country more appealing and dependable upon their support when she gives it a
female gender. This capitalises on the sexist attitude of the era where men were expected to take
care of and protect their women. Pope has written this poem in four parts with a regular rhythm and
rhyme scheme. This makes the poem more memorable. This is also a technique employed in
children s poetry and as such makes light of her subject matter.
Wilfred Owen is not totally against war, but, as it says at the end of the poem, the old lie: Dulce et
decorum est Pro patria mori or It is sweet and fitting To die for your country He is very angry
about this lie that is being told to young men and the citizens of England that are back at home,

telling all of England what it is really like on the front line.

100 percent of the population. Spanish, Creole, French, and English are other languages spoken

secondary written language. Brazil is a regional leader in science and technology. The people

etiquette. Cell phones are used with pre paid call systems and not only used for communication
between people, but also entertainment and security.
Family is a very important aspect in the Brazilian society. It is the center for social activities and

Parish: One must infer that in Knox s opinion such symbolism shares nothing with metaphor in its
effect on the imagination [College English 24 (1963): 299].
In spite of the shocking character of the poem s imagery, the Holy Sonnet XIV seems coherent, its
language apt; it is metrically jagged, yet traditional; its imagery is anthropomorphic, yet pious.
If one may be permitted a commonplace, the poem is certainly a poem of paradoxes, as has been
explored more fully in its many explications in these pages (articles appearing in 1953, 1954,
1965, 1967, and 1969, as well as in those mentioned above). However, most of these explications
seem to focus on the intensity of religious ardor expressed by Donne s expansion of the boundaries
of metaphorical usage within the poem. I will address more directly this metaphorical usage as it
relates to Donne s experimentation with metrical freedom within the strictures of traditional sonnet
form, as a further inroad to the poem s theme.
Both of these characteristics the sinewy elasticity of meter and the intellectual contortion of
metaphorical conceit are attributes of the metaphysical style of poetry of which Donne is the
preeminent representative. These attributes caused the critics of metaphysical poetry to label it the
strong lined style. It is, however, difficult to imagine Donne s passionate outpouring being
expressed in any other way, since

Online Learning Vs. Traditional Classroom Education
Imagine waking up, eating breakfast, going to school, and completing your course work without
leaving the comfort of your home or even your pajamas. The idea of attending school online and at
personal convenience is an option that many high school and college students have difficulty
passing up. In today s education system, students have the option to attend school in a traditional
classroom setting or attend online in the comfort of their own homes. Both options have their
benefits. However, in most cases, a traditional classroom education better prepares students K 12 for
their futures by encouraging self discipline and communication between teachers and peers. Online
learning, also known as distance learning, is growing rapidly throughout the United States. The
2012 survey of online learning determined that the number of students taking at least one online
course has now surpassed 6.7 million (Online Learning Consortium, 2012). With the 2014 online
learning statistics being released on February 5, it is expected that the number of students has
grown significantly in the past two years and is only set to increase into 2015. A traditional
classroom setting exposes students to what it will be like in their future workplace. In a classroom,
students are expected to communicate face to face with their peers and teachers. Every time
students attend school in a traditional classroom, they interact with their peers and learn what it is
like to work amongst people that they

  • 2. Research Paper On West Indies Cricket West Indies cricket, the envy of the world for decades past because of its exiting and brilliant batsmen, fast and furious fast bowlers, and its acrobatic fielders, and undisputed champions of the world for 19 years up to 1995, is now at rock bottom and looks like getting deeper and deeper. In fact, based on the events of this week, and after all that have gone on in the past 15 or 20 years, a good bet is that the West Indies days are numbered. Top Eight Teams Although it is common knowledge that the West Indies have lost 80 of 132 Test matches while winning only 14 against the top eight teams since losing 5 0 to England in 2000 and 5 0 to Australia in 2000 1, and have failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy while Bangladesh have done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The West Indies players, however, would be comfortable if they were to be, as they are now, subsidised by the cricket world from the money earned by the money spinners elsewhere in the world. Is it right for the non West Indies player to run around in the sun day after day for days at a time and then sit down and twiddle his thumbs, with nothing to do or eat, just looking on from the outside? No, it is not right, it was never right, and it can never be right. The West Indies Cricket Boardhas made many mistakes in their time, but this is not one. This is one to produce for West Indies cricket. This is one to ensure that what is happening now never happens again. This is one for West Indies cricket. According To Merit West Indies cricket is not the West Indies team alone. It is the West Indies teams and West Indies cricketers, all West Indian cricketers. • 3. Stern Leadership And Questionable Ethics Stern Leadership and Questionable Ethics Jeff Bezos, the CEO of the company Amazon, is a stern and old school leader. He whips Amazon into shape by utilizing an almost slave like employment group. Those close to him have been quoted saying that his drive and assertiveness come before any other leadership styles. Bezos can be compared to the football coach of the business world. Bezos primary focus is improving performance of his employees and company while leaving other important issues such as personal and customer service issues the weak link in his empire. Employee Management Amazon uses a system called the Anytime Feedback Tool which allows employees to rate their coworkers, and at the end of the year those who are in the lowest rankings are let go. For this reason, people have a great deal of incentive to outperform others. A woman who was being treated for breast cancer was told by a manager that she was on a performance improvement plan which ultimately meant that she was going to get fired. Another woman suffering from thyroid cancer was given a low performance rating by her coworkers because while she was gone the coworkers got a great deal of work done, and she had done none. Employee Tenure Most employees last in Amazon for less than two years. As Amazon is a fierce and competitive market at every level. The structure of the company has been described as a gladiator culture and many who have left the company would never dream of returning. Even after leaving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Native American Sign Language Essay Native American Sign Language Very basic, elementary and logical characteristics made the Native American Sign Language the world s most easily learned language. It was America s first and only universal language. The necessity for intercommunication between Indian tribes having different vocal speech developed gesturespeech or sign language (Clark; pg. 11). Although there is no record or era dating the use of sign language, American Indian people have communicated with Indian Sign Language for thousands of years. The signs illustrated ideas and the language conveyed a message. Many of the simplistic nonverbal gestures that were used by the Indian tribes across the United States are still in use around the world today. Most of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many Indians with college and university training can speak better English than they can sign talk. Native American Sign Language was the first universal language produced by people. Every record of the landing of Columbus on North American soil, tells of how he and his group communicated with the Indians using sign language. The same is also true of other explorers that came to this country. Lewis and Clark communicated successfully with the tribes of the west during their exploration efforts. In the 17th century, the language of sign was so well understood throughout the western part of the country that there was little difficulty in conversations being carried on between tribes, traders, and mountain men. They could easily communicate with one another, even though neither understood a word of the other s dialect at that time. Basic Native American sign language is easy to learn; it is much easier to learn Indian signing than it is to learn a spoken language. The combination of meaning and movement in signing, allows you to learn the meaning of a gesture, while you visualize the movement. One important factor to remember is that eighty five percent of the Native American Sign Language was done with the right hand; this system kept the communication process very simple Some very simple signs are easily commandedВ… EARTH В– Point with right index finger to the ground. • 5. Human Trafficking And Human Smuggling Although often mistaken to be the same, human trafficking and human smuggling are two separate illegal acts. Human trafficking is the crime against the person, while smuggling is the criminality against the state (Salt, 2000). The voluntary act of a person to transport trafficking victims across a border for monetary compensation refers to human smuggling. Although commonly performed for financial gain, sometimes individuals smuggle people to reunite them with their families. This can include the defilement of one or several countries regulations through trickery by the use of fake documents. Smuggling is usually not a forced act and it often includes the consent of the individual(s) being smuggled. A large number of people who have assistance with entering America illegally are considered to be smuggled rather than trafficked (Human Smuggling and Trafficking Center, 2005). However, along with the unsafe traveling conditions, it is not unusual for those being smuggled to face physical or sexual abuse. It is also possible for a smuggling situation to turn into a trafficking ordeal. As opposed to smuggling, human trafficking does not necessitate the transportation of persons across the border, rather it exists nationally with victims being American citizens (Salt, 2000). Human Trafficking Laws According to the thirteenth amendment of the U.S. Constitution, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist within the U.S. (TVPA, 2000). This concept became the ... • 6. Evolution Of Science Classes At School Being raised in a Christian family, I have attended Catholic school my whole life. That being said, I have grown up studying Bible stories since before I can remember. Probably the most prominent and well known of these stories in Christian theology is, of course, the story of creation. To this day, I still remember how the story goes. On the first day, God created the earth and daylight. For six days after, he continued creation and included the sky, the ocean, plants, animals, and humans. Growing up, I always believed in a literal interpretation of this story, and thought everything was created within an exact week. However, as I got older, I learned about evolutionin science classes at school. I soon discovered that many of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While a large number of people in the scientific field strongly believe in evolution, a group of people known as creationists and creation scientists seem to disagree. Creationism is the belief that the biblical record of primeval history in Genesis 1 11 is factual, historical, and clearly understandable and, therefore, that all things were created and made in six literal days (Morris). Creationists believe evolution completely contradicts with their religious beliefs; therefore, they do not agree with it. Creation science is a branch of creationism that focuses on providing scientific reasoning behind creationism. Creation scientist Jack Wellman describes evolution saying it presents a world view without God and that there is only survival of the fittest and that there is no real purpose for mankind. In between evolutionists and creationists falls theistic evolutionists, who believe in both creation by God and evolution. Since these people interpret the Bible in a metaphoric sense rather than literal, they believe that religious teachings about creation do not conflict with evolutionary concepts. For the most part, evolutionists and theistic evolutionists, aka people who believe in evolution, all seem to agree that evolution should be taught in US public schools. Interestingly enough, I have not yet found someone who is pro evolution and does not think it should be discussed in the classroom. However, there are creation scientists who think ... • 8. Essay on The Artwork of William Hogarth The Artwork of William Hogarth The artwork of William Hogarth is influenced greatly by social factors and the culture of eighteenth century England. In many of his works, Hogarth satirizes English society, rich and poor alike. His paintings and engravings depict the society of which he lived, with the costumes and ways of life of the times all shown in his work. Much of the time he is being satirical, exaggerating some of the faults of the people, other times he is being bitingly realistic in his views. It seems no one is safe from his caricatures, from the lords and ladies, to slaves, servants, prostitutes, criminals and the poor. In an earlier work, Strolling Actresses in a Barn, Hogarth also referred to another Act, the 1737 Act against strolling players. The Act is depicted on the left side of the engraving showing that the performance will be the women s last. Social references include the fact that there were many people of African descent in England at the time, as is shown by the servant and the black actress in this print. The project priorities are in regards what should be prioritised in the project. What is to be taking in regards in terms of cost is (budget), time (schedule), and performance (scope) of the project. What is important to emphasise on here is how these three correlate with one another. In a case where time is important it would be necessary to perform faster, which will prevent a quality outcome, hence lead to reduced costs. The importance of a project manager is to control the trade offs between budgets and scope. The project managers functions as a link between upper management and project customers. The project manager needs to have keen understanding of project scope in order to fulfil the requirements for the customers and how prioritize the demands. The customer can also add requirements and then the manager needs to prioritize the requirements in regards to the project. An important method is to use the priority matrix to identify what is worth prioritizing more. This topic however is crowded with lots of baseless opinions and politicized debates. Even when observing the facts we see that this coin is most definitely two sided, the information can be and is interpreted in a number of ways depending on which side of the issue you stand. Within this paper I am going to examine both sides of argument with sources from two films, Are We Changing Planet Earth, Global Warming: Hype or Hazard? and a book, This Borrowed Earth: 15 Lesson from the worst environmental disasters around the world by Robert Emmet Hernan. The first side I m going to discuss is the Pro side. That is, the side with supporters claiming global climate changeis both real, likely anthropological and must be addressed immediately. The arguments on this side tend to observe measurable changes in our environment in the past several hundred to several thousand years, observing previous trends and attempting to match them with future expectations, then comparing them with current realities. The sourced film Are We Changing Planet Earth goes into quite a bit of depth on these particular aspects. Traveling around the world, they inspected what were mostly relatively recent events and how they affected the people and animals. Specifically, he interprets these events with a political ideology to demonstrate how political events during the revolutionary era have affected the course of American history. • 15. Advantages Of Traditional Market Research Methods Lisel Douglas Argumentative Essay 2014 11 04 (Title) There is no doubt that traditional market research methods have proven themselves to be valuable in helping businesses to determine the next steps in, and governmental organizations study the population over which it governs. Traditional market research methods such as surveys in person, mail, telephone, and now, online, have proven to be reliable means of gathering information about a market. Qualitative methods, like focus groups, and in depth interviews have also been accepted as reliable means for collecting a certain kind of information about a market. However, according to the AAPOR, we are entering a new era, where traditional survey research may play a less dominant role. Businesses and organizations may look more to Big Data and social media research for answers to their questions. This paper is not a discussion of the merits of traditional methods vs. newer methods, from an either/or perspective. The intention is to explain why social media as a potentially reliable market research method, should not be dismissed due perceived pitfalls. There are many areas of concern, but this paper will address only three: measurement challenges, wrong answers, and quality. The AAPOR states that, the reasons to consider social media in public opinion and survey research are no different than those of any alternative method as essentially the ultimate concern of market research is answering research questions, and ... It is a very serious decision for inmates to make because it is the last thing they got to savor and enjoy since they are moments away from execution. Prisoners on death row, pay with their lives for the crimes they have committed. Instead of granting life sentences to prisoners, federal courts punish prisoners by executing them. It is a long and difficult decision for states to make, but based on the unjust manner cases are presented regarding prisoners of color, there is a large number of innocent prisoners put to death row. This form of punishment is cruel and unusual. It is cruel because it is a barbaric punishment that has no place in the 21st century. It is also unusual since America is the only 1st world nation that still uses the death penalty. The death penalty is also given to racial minorities the most. The issue of racial bias is greatly present in capital punishmentcases. The issue of putting someone with a mental disability on death row is always a possibility. Although, the Supreme Court has ruled executions of the mentally ill illegal, there stands a chance that the execution will end up happening. • 18. The Importance Of High School Student Athletes Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to do so, for most athletes, high schoolsports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost. The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70 s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers, rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only hurts the students in the long run. For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States of America currently holds over 16 Trillion dollars in debt based on our governments spending practices for the last ten years. Two wars, numerous fiscal collapses and cliffs, a bubble popped housing market, looming medical care costs from a socialized healthcare law and a recession have caused the government to acquire enormous amounts of debt. Proponents of these amendments also that running deficits over the long term or persistent deficits can be dangerous as well. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of consumer s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private capital goods . This is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the future. Growing Federal Debt can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of crises can occur when debt levels become so large in relation to the economy s output that the government has difficulty selling it. Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the governments ability to repay its debt and refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often leading to inflation, reduction in government services and programs and increased economic hardship on its citizens. There are several good examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and Greece. The US saw a version of this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt and its credit worthiness reduced its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at lower interests rates. People Legal Compliance. Determining the relationship between a company and people can be evaluated in several ways. Legal compliance issues not only provide powerful insight into an organization s ethical business practices, but also how these engagements affect people within the company. In Chou vs. Starbucks, it was determined that Starbucks misclassified shift supervisors as nonexempt customer service employees in violation of California law enabling supervising employees to share in tip pools with non management baristas. (Brody et al., 2008). Here, a significant amount of employees were prevented from receiving fair compensation in this tip sharing model. Many employees are reliant upon tips as part of their compensation and allowing managers with higher pay rates to also share tips diminishes the ability of baristas to earn a proper wage. Starbucks has also struggled to comply with tax codes as seen through its failure to pay the appropriate amount of taxes owed based on profits over a fourteen year period. It was published in New York in 1987 and the story of the book takes place around this time as well. The significance of the title is to hint at the central idea of the story, which revolves around a mesa in the deserts of southern Utah. The place is very odd, having bizarre occurrences described by both the main character and another character in the story. These occurrences advance the plot astronomically. Not only this, the setting is what pulls the reader into the book, intriguing and making the reader curious for more. This book has three main characters, Mike Raglan, Erik Hokart, and a strange young woman named Kawasi. Mike Raglan is a keenly intelligent person, as well as determined, which is what drives the plot onward. Erik Hokart is also very intelligent, but also wealthy, which enables him to inadvertently start the conflict of the story. The young woman Kawasi is a strange woman with brown skin and a heavy accent. She is a very odd addition to the story as she is alien to the worldin Utah. • 28. The Importance Of Culture On My Culture My culture is the Netflix and/or binge watching culture. This culture has a variety of different elements that are within it. These elements each have their own importance to how they impact my culture. Also, without any of these elements it would change the culture completely. To begin, the first element is the values of my culture. Values are the principles or standards that society uses to make judgments. One of the values associated with Netflix is modification. Netflix is always being modified so that the viewers could see newly released shows as well as movies. Movies and TV shows are always being produced as well as what is trending in the country and world. Another value is variation, this allows subscribers to have an unlimited number of movies and TV shows to watch. On the Netflix website, the values they used to convey themselves was judgment, productivity, creativity, intelligence, honesty, communication, selflessness, reliability and passion. I think these all represent the company very well. The next element to my culture is beliefs. Beliefs are the opinions or theories that people accept. Some of the beliefs associated with the beliefs of Netflix are the 5 star rating system that is used to measure the quality of the show. The higher number of stars the better the movie/show should be. This is also based on a consensus so even if it has a high rating you still might not like the movie/show and vis versa. Another belief is that Netflix is more for watching movies not necessary TV shows like Hulu offers. Some other TV/movie online media streaming websites are: Amazon Prime, Hulu, Sling TV, HBO Now, etc. Knowledge is the ability to be informed and understand concepts to help people through life. There are several types of knowledge someone needs to understand when they use Netflix one of which is how to use the technology. From how to properly run a computer to how to run Netflix and navigate through the app. Another is the ability to understand the language the show is in, and if it s not offered in someone s first language then you can put the subscripts on so you can understand it. From the very beginning, the character traits in the movie differ from those portrayed in the short story. The ways in which they differ include the various switched roles of characters and other aspects including age and clothing. One of the switched roles is right in the beginning of the movie when the father lifts up Rikki from the sand, whereas in the short story the mother picks him up. Another switched role would be when Darzee s wife explains what happened to their baby egg that was eaten by Nag, but in the short story Darzee does the explaining. One last switched role I came across was how Nag is the instigator who wanted to take over the garden, but in the story it is Nagaina. Some other differences include the age of Teddy and the clothing of the family. In the short story, Rudyard Kiplingcreates Teddy as a young toddler, using words such as nursery to describe the room where he sleeps, but in the movie Teddy appears to be almost ten years old with his fancy clothing and tall height. Surprisingly, the family in the movie wears very nice, neat clothing. This is surprising because of the way Rudyard Kipling describes the setting. With sand, dirt, and a garden, you would presume that it would be a humid climate, which would result in the wearing of sandals and shorts. However, in the movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the other hand there are people who do exactly the opposite, more specifically those within the Lolita subculture. Both terms are used to create central themes for the four stories we read in our english class. All of these stories include characters that present greed or charity. In The Gift of the Magi, the wife and the husband both gave up their prized possessions to get their significant other a gift. Since the couple were poor and wanted to satisfy each other with a wonderful gift, they had to give up what they never thought they would have before. I believe this shows charity in their relationship. They both wanted the best of the best for each other and kindheartedly gave up whatever they had. Della, the wife, asked someone to buy her long, silky, brown hair. Will you buy my hair? asked Della. I buy hair, said Madame. Take yer hat off and let s have a sight at the looks of it. As you can see, the wife sold her hair to buy her husband a gift which was a watch band for his watch. The husband then revealed to his wife that he sold his watch to buy her a comb. In The Fisherman and His Wife, both greed and charity are presented. The fisherman consisted of a lot of charity. He was willing to give his wife whatever she wanted. One way for us to remove these impurities and obtain our desired product is by using a technique called recrystallization. Our goal in this experiment is to prove that recrystallization is a method to purify a solidorganic compound with contaminants. In Part A we will purify acetanilide by recrystallization and in Part B we will distinguish the best way to select the solventrequired to recrystallize the solute. Removing the solid impurities of an organic compound involves a series of steps. The first step is to dissolve the solid in the minimum amount of the appropriate hot solvent. Therefore, if a solid is first dissolved in an amount of hot solvent that does not dissolve it when cold, crystals should form when the hot solution is allowed to cool. The second step is using hot vacuum filtration, which removes the insoluble impurities from the hot mixture. The acetanilide given to us had two impurities, one soluble and one insoluble in the hot water. The insoluble impurity can be removed after the acetanilide is dissolved in the hot solvent and filtered. Most of the solvent may be evaporated from the crystals as the vacuum pulls the air through the crystals on the funnel, but the acetanilide will still contain the more soluble impurity. It is important to let the solution cool slowly in order for the molecules to line up in an organized way and form the crystals. We also need to make sure that the filter flask in clamped and that we use the appropriate tubes for the vacuum as well as the appropriate sized filter paper. However, two of the most important discriminating factors which shape how operations are conducted are acceptance and protection of US forces by the local population. Operational environments are roughly sorted into two major categories. Permissive environments are locations where the host nation has control of its territory and supports US operations. Non permissive environments refer to locations with hostile or uncertain local response. Although the weapons systems and sensors do not change from one location to the next, the environment surrounding a deployed Air Defense unit has a significant impact on how it is best operated. The Patriot and Avenger weapons systems clearly demonstrate the disparate considerations that must be taken for implementation of each asset when employed in a permissive and non permissive environment respectively. Employment and Operations of the Patriot Missile System are dramatically impacted by its host environment. When the a unit is deployed to a permissive environment, treaties and political agreements often restrict exactly where the Patriot battery can be emplaced and what assets it will cover. This poem is a recruiting poem with the aim of encouraging men to volunteer to join the forces. It was written at the beginning of the First World War and therefore the true disastrous effects of the war had not been experienced. She also has a friendly manner in her propaganda poem as she refers to the men as lads . She persuades the men into joining the forces with her assumption that they ll But you ll come on alrite . She makes the country more appealing and dependable upon their support when she gives it a female gender. This capitalises on the sexist attitude of the era where men were expected to take care of and protect their women. Pope has written this poem in four parts with a regular rhythm and rhyme scheme. This makes the poem more memorable. This is also a technique employed in children s poetry and as such makes light of her subject matter. Wilfred Owen is not totally against war, but, as it says at the end of the poem, the old lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori or It is sweet and fitting To die for your country He is very angry about this lie that is being told to young men and the citizens of England that are back at home, not fighting. Wilfred Owen also believes in honour, and doing what you believe in. He believes in telling all of England what it is really like on the front line. Parish: One must infer that in Knox s opinion such symbolism shares nothing with metaphor in its effect on the imagination [College English 24 (1963): 299]. In spite of the shocking character of the poem s imagery, the Holy Sonnet XIV seems coherent, its language apt; it is metrically jagged, yet traditional; its imagery is anthropomorphic, yet pious. If one may be permitted a commonplace, the poem is certainly a poem of paradoxes, as has been explored more fully in its many explications in these pages (articles appearing in 1953, 1954, 1965, 1967, and 1969, as well as in those mentioned above). However, most of these explications seem to focus on the intensity of religious ardor expressed by Donne s expansion of the boundaries of metaphorical usage within the poem. I will address more directly this metaphorical usage as it relates to Donne s experimentation with metrical freedom within the strictures of traditional sonnet form, as a further inroad to the poem s theme.

  • 58. Online Learning Vs. Traditional Classroom Education Imagine waking up, eating breakfast, going to school, and completing your course work without leaving the comfort of your home or even your pajamas. The idea of attending school online and at personal convenience is an option that many high school and college students have difficulty passing up. In today s education system, students have the option to attend school in a traditional classroom setting or attend online in the comfort of their own homes. Both options have their benefits. However, in most cases, a traditional classroom education better prepares students K 12 for their futures by encouraging self discipline and communication between teachers and peers. Online learning, also known as distance learning, is growing rapidly throughout the United States. The 2012 survey of online learning determined that the number of students taking at least one online course has now surpassed 6.7 million (Online Learning Consortium, 2012). With the 2014 online learning statistics being released on February 5, it is expected that the number of students has grown significantly in the past two years and is only set to increase into 2015. A traditional classroom setting exposes students to what it will be like in their future workplace. In a classroom, students are expected to communicate face to face with their peers and teachers. Every time students attend school in a traditional classroom, they interact with their peers and learn what it is like to work amongst people that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
