Citation fun!
We use Noodletools, but many
universities are going to provide a
more robust citation tool, ie:
ProCite or Refworks.
These will help you organize your
notes/sources/citations and will
also help you navigate styles that
are new to you. Ask your librarian
to teach you how to use them.
@ Emma, we subscribe to approximately 15
different databases.
You’re going to find something more like this.
What’s your plan?
In the nonstop tsunami of global
information, librarians provide us with
floaties and teach us how to swim.

Tips from grads…..
3rd year Arts, St Andrew’s
• “It seems so simple, but just learning how to use
scanners, photocopiers, etc, would have been really
useful. Because it costs money to print & copy it is
helpful to know how to be efficient with all the
machines (e.g. double siding, getting multiple pages
on one side of the sheet, etc).”
• ”My university offers a tour of the library at the
beginning of each year and I took it in my second
year and it was amazing. I'd encourage people to go,
even if it seems super dorky ;)”
Recent grad, McGill Engineering
• Used print more than he thought – good
amount of information not available online or
is expensive (eg. Perry’s Chemical Handbook)
• Library is overwhelming at first and librarians
will not seek you out – you need to take
initiative and won’t be the first to ask the
question
• RefWorks / ProCite
• At McGill – citation guide dist with student ID
Interlibrary Loan-when the library
doesn’t own what you need.
• Books, journals, articles, dissertations, etc.
• ie: Yale’s ILL information.

Editor's Notes

  • #5 Course Reserves may be requested by an instructor to be set aside at the circulation desk of any library, for short-term use by currently-enrolled students.
