Heutagogy for Primary School Children | Learning Beyond the Classroom
Involvement

naturally
Don’t teach….Let them involve
The main motto of Heutagogy
 The main motto of Heutagogy for Primary School Children is to let them
learn to conserve nature and build a sustainable world through their
daily life activities!
 We work towards sustainable, humane and progressive development.

Surely….
Your answer will be a big
“NO”
Children love playing and no
one needs to ask them to play.
They rush out to play though
you order them to stay
indoors.
Heutagogy for Primary School Children
| Learning Beyond the Classroom
This question triggered me for sometime
when I started my job as a teacher.
Heutagogy for Primary School Children
| Learning Beyond the Classroom
I succeeded in training the
students in self-learning.
But the magic came into
existence, when I started
experimenting on self-
determined learning.
I worked on many methods
Heutagogy defined
Heutagogy is the study of self determined learning and applies a holistic
approach to developing learner capabilities with the learner serving as “the
major agent in their own learning, which occurs, as a result of personal
experience” - Stewart Hase & Chris Kenyon (2OO7, p. 112)

 Everyone is a Global Citizen
now.
 We need citizens who can love
the world like their own family.
 We need citizens who can work
on sustainable development.
 We need citizens who can
empower the world.
 We need citizens who can save
the planet.

Doing on own (Everything)
Do it by yourself…You can do it! I am here to facilitate!
These are the only magical sentences. I use to see spell bound performances
by the children.

reports. Those who cannot write, express
through drawing and flow charts.

Encouragement
 Giving gifts for encouragement is always done.
 After few months, the leader gives gifts for his team members like
badges, appreciation slips or fruits.
 After few more months, one group gives gifts for the other group who
performed well.
 This process eradicates Jealousy and enhances amity!
Heutagogy for Primary School Children
| Learning Beyond the Classroom
Correlation
 Displaying toys of a concept…
 A grand picture drawn by 3,4 students
simultaneously on the black board…
 A situational approach…
 A magical story including the children
of the class as roles of the story….
 We learn 6 subjects in a single
session!
Correlation worked wonders
Children learnt the concepts of 6 subjects in a single session with lot of
enjoyment, rejoicing, jumping, telling stories, enacting drama’s etc.,
Heutagogy for Primary School Children
| Learning Beyond the Classroom
Moral values
One of the 6 subjects is moral values that is told in stories and played as the
drama.
The other 5 are:
 The mother tongue
 English language
 Mathematics
 Environmental Studies
 Drawing

Heutagogy-self determined learning
When a child loves to do something on own, tries all methods to learn it
until she/he achieves it and enjoys the process to the core….
What else do we need?
Book on Heutagogy by Class V students
My students of class V published their book on the concept of “Heutagogy” and how
they succeeded in self-determined learning.
Heutagogy for Primary School Children

Global citizenship
Now let us have a staunch stand on the concept of “Global citizenship” and
“More Humane and Sustainable Globe”
Life is all about getting involved
Heutagogy is a splendid method of Education that can empower kids in
every aspect, giving the best citizens to the world!
