Music Educator of Note: Recognizing that education is the key to the
development of musicians, the LIMHoF celebrates the work of those
who give young people the inspiration, knowledge and musical skills
to explore their talents. The educator of
note is someone who has worked with
children in public, private or regional music
programs. We are proud to have honored:
The Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s
first group of 53 inductees, which were
honored in 2006 and 2008, represent
some of the extraordinary contribu-
tions Long Island has made to the his-
tory of music, not only in America, but
throughout the world. It is our hope
that these First 53 demonstrate
that Long Island has been, and will
continue to be, a consistent and
never-ending wellspring of world-class
musical talent. Drawn from a growing list of over 500
potential inductees, it’s clear that these artists are only
a small sample of the great talent that has called Long
Island home.
The criteria for induction is: an artist or group that either was born on Long
Island or has resided on Long Island for a significant portion of their career.
(Long Island is defined by its geographic borders and includes Nassau,
Suffolk, Queens and Kings counties.) Honorees are chosen from all aspects
of the music industry – songwriters, performers, promoters, manufacturers,
and worthy recipients from many other appropriate areas.

Take Your Place in Long Island’s
Musical History Timeline!
As we make preparations for our museum,
LIMHoF is actively collecting items pertaining
to Long Island’s remarkable musical legacy.
These artifacts will be exhibited in our museum
and in traveling exhibits designed for schools
and libraries throughout Long Island. Whether
your home is filled with concert programs,mag-
azines, posters, records, autographed t-shirts
and all sorts of great memorabilia, or if you just have a drawer somewhere
with a few cool items, we want to hear from you. Your contributions will be
gratefully acknowledged!
LIMHoF is also looking for musicians and vocalists who were members
of groups from Queens, Kings (Brooklyn), Nassau or Suffolk County that
wrote, recorded, and released original music. If you fit that description, we
want to hear your story! We also want to include your music in our digital
database of Long Island’s musical history. We are looking for
recordings, acetates, original LPs, reviews, photos, and any
information or memorabilia that will help us to learn more
about your place in Long Island’s rich musical history.
