Henry VIII was born in 1491 and became King of England in 1509. He had six wives and broke ties with the Roman Catholic Church after the Church refused to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Henry introduced the Church of England and died in 1547. He was an avid sports player and musician who oversaw reconstruction of important buildings. His desire for a male heir led him to seek annulments of his marriages to Catherine and Anne Boleyn, who he had executed for treason in 1536.
