Research Experience
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign Summer 2015
Pre-Settlement Drainage Network Configuration in the Upper Sangamon River Basin Champaign, IL
Advisor: Dr. Alison Anders
Funded by the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC)
 Estimated the physical locations of incised channels within the Upper Sangamon River Basin (USRB) prior
to European settlement
 Used GIS analysis to compare various data sets, including General Land Office (GLO) surveys from the
early 1800s, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service soil maps, and LIDAR-based digital elevation
models.
 Submitted a paper with findings to NGRREC
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Spring 2015
Distribution of USDA SAFE CRP farms in relation to historically documented populations
of the federally endangered Karner Blue Butterfly, Eau Claire County, WI.
Eau Claire, WI
Advisor: Dr. Paula Kleintjes Neff
 Analyzed the spatial relationship between private land enrolled in the USDA State Acres for Wildlife
Enhancement (SAFE) Conservation Reserve Program and documented Karner Blue butterfly
(Lycaeides melissa samuelis) populations
 Obtained farm locations from the USDA NRCS, and KBB sites from the WDNR Natural Heritage
Inventory, and produced a map for the Natural Heritage Inventory

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Spring 2015
Implications of Removing Russian Olive Trees on Invertebrate Diversity along the Escalante
River
Escalante, UT
Advisor: Dr. Todd Wellnitz
 Set up pitfall traps along transects within study sites in the Escalante Valley that had previous Russian
Olive removal projects, and compared them with a study site with no removal project.
 Measured several parameters, such as percent vegetative cover, percent canopy cover, and soil moisture in
the areas surrounding our pitfalls and used statistical software R for analysis
 Submitted findings to the Escalante River Watershed Partnership
