This project monitored bird activity on the Pike floodplain in South Australia before environmental watering to collect baseline data. The researcher recorded 109 bird species, including 46 conservation species, showing the floodplain maintains ecological integrity despite degradation. The diverse bird species supported indicates restoring the floodplain's health is important for regional bird preservation. Additional surveying is still needed to increase data confidence, as 17 new species were recorded and some species remain anecdotally observed only. The floodplain appears to play a key role in survival of several threatened bird populations.
