My interestinanimalscame ata veryyoungage.My firstjobat the age of sixteenwasaVeterinaryTechnicianAssistant
at my local Veterinarian’sOffice,DunwoodyAnimal Hospital.Iconducteddailydutiestomaintainacleaningandsterile
workingenvironment.Ilearnedhowtorespondto the unanticipatedwithoutlosingmycomposure,whichIamrealizing
can be commonwhile interactingwithwildlife.Igainedexperience inworkingwithateamof staff memberswhoall
wantthe bestforthe animalswhocame in.
I enrolledasanundergraduate andimmediatelywantedtoestablishmyinvolvementinwildlifeinterests.Todoso, I
wentto the AthensBearHollowZooand trainedto become a wildlifedocent.Atthiszoo,Iintegratedmyinterestwith
learningaboutwildlife toactuallyworkingwithwildlife. Conveyingasingle educational message toapersonhas the
potential tochange howtheyact towardswildlife forthe restof theirlife,soItreateach opportunitytoinformlike iti s
the last.In 2013, I had the opportunitytostudyabroadinCosta Rica. It wasan eye-openingexperience,where Iwas
able to learnaboutcultural differencesinCentral AmericaandConservationandSustainabilityinaglobal context.
There,I wasinformedaboutthe NASA DEVELOPprogram.I appliedandbecame aFall 2013 intern.We usedSpatial
Analysismethods,suchassatellite imageryandremote sensinginordertodeterminethe bestwaytoanalyze habitat
connectivityinthe CostaRicaBiological Corridorusingmodels.Iappliedagain inSpring2014 and we plannedaWestern
Greenwaybetweenthe cityof Miami and the Everglades. Irealizedthe importance of understandingthe impacts that
each andevery one of us make and howrewardingitisto participate inconservationeffortsusingsoftware suchas
ArcGIS and statistical analysessuchas R.
Duringthe summerof 2014, I participatedinmyfirstfieldworkcourse calledNASA’sBird’sEye View toClimate Change.I
was ona teamthat continuedlong-termresearchonthe Black-throatedBlue Warbler(BTBW) atthe Coweeta
HydrologicLaboratory,NC.We were able to create a researchproposal andtestthiswithour resultingdataat the end
of the fieldseasonwithanemphasisonclimate change.Thisexperiencedsolidifiedmyinterestinwildliferesearchwith
emphasisonimplicationsregardingmanagementandconservation. Fromthisdata,Iwas able to developaseniorthesis
that comparedtemporal matchingof phenologyandbreedingwithnestsuccessforthe BTBW. Duringmysenioryearat
UGA I took on the task of beinga studentambassadorforthe Warnell School aswell asForesterof the Xi SigmaPi Xi
Chapter,the ForestryHonorsSociety, atUGA. Both rolesare allowed me togainexperience atleadership,networking,
and outreachinthe wildlifefield.Thissummer,I completed the AppliedSciences Internship Programthroughthe Fish
and Wildlife Service atSeneyNationalWildlife Refuge.I participatedinmarshbirdsurveys,invasivespecies
management,habitatassessmentand forestmanagement. IalsoreceivedmyATV/UTV andpesticide certifications.
In myspare time,Ilove beingoutdoors,goingcampingandrunning.Ibelievethatbeingphysicallycapable isjustas
importantas havinga mental edge.Ihave completedfourmarathonsandwill continue runningforthe restof my life.I
was onthe FleetFeetCompetitiveRacingTeam inAthensandparticipatedinweeklyeventswiththe AthensRoad
