• The benefits and services we offer to our veteran students include:
• Counseling for financial, academic, and vocational issues.
• Information pertaining to work-study job opportunities.
• Information regarding veterans services supplied at SUNY Broome.

4. Applying for Benefits
• Our online site offers a link to immediately apply for veterans education
benefits through theVA.
• Students seeking benefits from theVA are also required to do the following:
• Submit a copy of their DD-214, or a Notice of Basic Eligibility/DD2384 form if that
student is with the Reserve or Guard.
• Submit a copy of their Eligibility Letter/Certificate, a copy of their concise weekly class
schedule, and a completed application form for SUNY BroomeVeterans Educational
Benefits Request Form.

5. Benefits forTransfer Students
• Transferring veteran students are required to submitVA form 22-1995.
• Transferring dependents of veterans are required to submitVA form 22-5495.
• Without completing the proper paperwork andVA forms, students will be in
jeopardy of not receiving minimal or any benefits at all towards their education at
SUNY Broome

7. Veteran Students and FAFSA
• Veteran students can apply for federal student aid for free using the link to
fafsa.gov.
• Veteran students must select our school code, 002862, as a school that the
applicant plans to attend.
• This helps us receive your application data from FAFSA.

8. Credit Hours and Benefits
• After classes have started, students are instructed to notify the SUNY
BroomeVeteran’s and Military Affairs Office if there’s a change in the total
number of credit hours.
• A change in credit hours may affect certification of benefits.

9. Dropping a Course
• Benefit recipients who drop a course after the add/drop date will be charged
a monetary fine by theVA from the first day of that class.
• TheVA makes exceptions for illnesses, transfers, changing work hours, new
jobs, and other appropriate reasons.

10. MonthlyVerification
• Veteran benefit recipients under Chapter 30, 1606 and 1607 , are held
personally liable to contact theVA on the last day of each month or during
the first week of each month in order to confirm their enrollment status.
