Micronutrients are known to play many important roles in plant
development and health. Micronutrients promote the strong,
steady growth of crops that produce higher yields and increase
harvest quality by maximizing a plant’s genetic potential. In
particular, their presence can have a great impact on root
development, fruit setting and grain filling, seed viability and
plant vigor and health. This crop is used for Paddy, Wheat,
Sugarcane, Potato, Vegetables, Cotton, Banana, Horticulture
Crops.
They also benefit plants
indirectly by feeding the
microorganisms in the soil
that perform important steps
in various nutrient cycles of
the soil-plant root system.

Rice is the main staple food in
Asia, where about 90% of the
world's rice is produced and
consumed. China is the world's
biggest producer, growing one-
third of Asia's total on 29 million
ha (Table 1.1). India produces
nearly a quarter on 43 million ha.
It is the most important food
crop of India covering about
one-fourth of the total cropped
area and providing food to about
half of the Indian population.
Sugarcane is a long duration,
high water and high nutrient
demanding crop. India is second
largest sugar producer in the
world after Brazil. Sugarcane
production has been more or
less static (around 350 million
tonnes) in India during the past
10 years.
Banana is a globally important
fruit crop with 97.5 million tones
of production. In India it
supports livelihood of million of
people. With total annual
production of 16.91 million tones
from 490.70 thousand ha., with
national average of 33.5 T/ha.
Banana occupy 20% area among
the total area under crop in
India.
Wheat is the main cereal crop in
India. The total area under the
crop is about 29.8 million
hectares in the country. Indian
wheat is largely a soft/medium
hard, medium protein, white
bread wheat, somewhat similar
to U.S. hard white wheat.
Wheat grown in central and
western India is typically hard,
with high protein and high
gluten content.

Cotton is one of the most important ber
and cash crop of India and plays a
dominant role in the industrial and
agricultural economy of the country. It
provides the basic raw material (cotton
bre) to cotton textile industry. Cotton in
India provides direct livelihood to 6 million
farmers and about 40 -50 million people
are employed in cotton trade and its
processing. However, the cotton sector
faces several sustainability challenges.
Around 99% of the world’s cotton farmers
across 70 countries are smallholders, who
produce 75% of the 25 million metric tons
of the global cotton production annually.
India's area under horticulture crops
touched 2.1 million hectares (21.03 lakh
hectare). India's horticulture production
has crossed an all time high of over 240
million tonnes in 2011–12. India with more
than 28.2 million tonnes of fruits and 66
million tonnes of vegetables is one of the
largest producers of fruits and vegetables
in the world—next only to Brazil and China.
The recent emphasis on horticulture in our
country consequent to the recognition of
the need for attaining nutrition security
and for more pro table land use, has
brought about a signi cant change in the
outlook of the growers.
Potato is the most important food crop of the
world. Potato is a temperate crop grown under
subtropical conditions in India. The potato is a
crop which has always been the ‘poor man’s
friend’. Potato is being cultivated in the
country for the last more than 300 years. For
vegetable purposes it has become one of the
most popular crops in this country. Potatoes
are an economical food; they provide a source
of low cost energy to the human diet. Potatoes
are a rich source of starch, vitamins especially
C and B1 and minerals. They contain 20.6 per
cent carbohydrates, 2.1 per cent protein, 0.3
per cent fat, 1.1 per cent crude bre and 0.9 per
cent ash. They also contain a good amount of
essential amino acids like leucine,
tryptophane and isoleucine etc.
